"[Fran Vazquez's] contract was up and we were hoping to get him, but he has to look after his own interests," [Orlando Magic Director of International Scouting Sam] Foggin said. "He signed a one-year deal with Barcelona, and we’re hoping that in a year’s time we can come to terms with Fran. He wants to come. He was committed to come, but for reasons outside of our control it didn’t work out [...]"

Feed that load to someone else cuz I don't eat that stuff

Dwight Howard - "My Gosh, what is that smell?"
Otis Smith - "That's the smell of success my man."
Dwight Howard - "No, it smells like a used Arenas... filled with... Turkoglu..."
Otis Smith - "You know, success smells like that to some people." (turns and walks toward a crowd of fans)
Fan#1 - (Disgusted) "What is that? Smells like a turd covered in burnt hair..."
Otis Smith - (Tries to act casual and walk away) "Woah, what's that smell?"

Ditto.

We should start a “Stay in Spain, Fran” fanpost.

Seriously.

All of you would’ve done the same thing this year in his situation. Hopefully you all won’t be “that person” (your welcome, Squid) and complain about the guy non-stop while he’s over there and when he does come over, you ride him like a…well, I’ll just stop there.

Agreed

Nobody would go someplace with the possibility of not getting paid when they can go someplace else and get it guaranteed. NBA can wait a year.

I'll never be beind

a guy who I don’t consider can ever live up to selection. It’s INCONCIEVABLE!

You have your opinion

but I do NOT believe he would have signed if it wasn’t for the lockout. I don’t believe he’ll ever play over here. If he wanted to it would have already happened. If he wanted to he would have signed a contract with an out in the event the lockout is resolved and the season starts.

by aakks on Jun 28, 2011 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions

He basically did that though.

He discussed it with the Magic all season, and decided it was in his best interest to sign a 1 yr extension with his current team.

I actually prefer him to do that instead of coming over here with his thumb up his butt why a player’s association that he isn’t even a member of yet gets a deal figured out with the owners. All the while he could be over in Spain honing his skills even more, becoming more prepared for next year, after the lockout is over.

Like I said above

I’ll believe it when I see it.

by aakks on Jun 29, 2011 8:36 AM EDT up reply actions

Evan, He was never gonna come over here in the first place..

He only used us (Magic) for leverage since we drafted him.

“He had no devious plans at play shortly after the Magic selected him with the 11th pick in the first round of the NBA draft last June. But doubts would begin to build the minute he stepped foot on American soil, escalating with the tug of an influential girlfriend, an agent who stood to make significant financial gains if he stayed home, and finally, an unexpected offer making him the richest professional basketball player in Spain.” LINK:http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/interesting-article-fran-vazquez

He used the draft and us to stay in Spain because the NBA and the States was too much for him, And he got paid in doing so. The Lockout is a EXCUSE.

He’s not coming. The Majority of Sports writers know this. We’re holding down a pick that will never play for the Magic.

SO WHAT.

2009-2011, Still no Fran. And it’s not like the story is false. He’s still not here. Your Point?

by REP96st on Jun 29, 2011 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions

He might not be here because of the upcoming lockout?

Someone forgot that he only signed a 1 year contract.

He was under contract before

And now there’s a lockout.

What chance did he have to play in the NBA?

by eltharion_doa on Jun 30, 2011 6:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Can't wait for Fran

Everyone calls the pick a bust, but honestly, it’s going to turn out to be great for the Magic WHEN he comes. There’s no if’s about it, he wants to be in the NBA.

by MasterofMagic on Jun 28, 2011 10:21 AM EDT reply actions

I'm cool with it

Just think about it. This is what the Spurs do every year. They pick international players and keep them overseas. When the player is ready, they bring them over and they turn out to be great players.

Can't stand the truth?

give him some time.

Agreed

If the Spurs called and offered Splitter for Orton and a 2nd rd pick + cash I’d do it in a heart beat.

You never know what will happen

All I’m saying is Splitter either wasn’t ready or isn’t a great player. He didn’t work.

He might in the future.

by eltharion_doa on Jun 30, 2011 6:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I imagine he could be slightly useful if & when he does come over but...

His numbers arn’t spectacular and he only plays 18 minutes a game. He also doesn’t seem to have an NBA body. He’s about as rail thin as he could possibly be.
So if he’s only getting 18 mins a game and only putting up “decent” numbers in Spain then I’d expect even less in the NBA. Seems logical right? Is Europe just really good at selling us on bums. Only one in a million becomes Dirk yet they fill up our lottery picks somehow. Great up-sale Europe! Sure I’ll have fries with that trash. How much? Cool!

Guys. Fran will come and lead us to a title

Watch. Why are we all so down on Fran? What has he ever done to/for us?

Excuses. Reasons you failed. No one wants to hear them.

by NO PITY IN TIMBER CITY on Jun 29, 2011 8:58 AM EDT reply actions

Absolutely nothing.

That’s the problem.

If you don't have anything good to say about the Cards this season, you'd be correct.

by hevchv on Jun 29, 2011 2:35 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Realistically

the only title Fran is going to ‘lead’ the Magic to is the title of “fool you!”

Let’s say, for argument sake, that he does come, and Dwight is not here (because if Dwight is here he is leading the magic to a title with Fran playing breather time) and Fran is now the starting center for the Orlando Magic. Where does he summon this talent and athleticism tat he currently doesn’t possess? How about the bulk of an NBA big man? If he can barely compete better than his Euroleague counterparts (centers) how on earth does he suddenly start competing better than ones in the NBA, who are much more athletic?

Look I’m not hating on Fran, I’m hating on the Front Office for selecting him. He wasn’t worth it, never will be, even if for some reason he does show up next year.

Otis Smith - "That's the smell of success my man."

It cant get any worse...

The Fran selection cant get any worse, it can only get better. I truly hope (not holding my breath) that he does sign w/ the Magic for the 2012-2013 season. Who knows, maybe he will become the next Arvydas Sabonis???
