Well if he can actually "play" like Jason Terry then that'll be great.
Arenas really is delusional. Does he even realize he played poorly & was out of shape and hurt? I think not. Dwight really messed up by evoking his name in his recent comments. Unneeded ego boost for an egomaniac.

maybe if he thinks he can play better
he will play better…is that a form of reverse psycology?

I agree.
It seemed if he had a bad game, it was perpetual. Most of the Magic fans, and Stan apparently, came down really hard on Gil.

Here's another tweet from him
my strugs were mental..i played my worst at hm..becuz i was always thinkin what the fans was thinkn about me..
Why so sensitive?
Beause he has lost confidence
I said it during the season, imagine waking up and hearing how much the national media, local media, fans, etc all hate you. You go into a game and Earl Clark gets a louder ovation than you do. Yes, I understand he makes a lot of money, but he is still a human being. All the negativity plus issues with the the girlfriend/wife thingy probably bogged him down.
Having said that, he does need to adjust his game. His knees simply will not allow him to be who he was. He does need to lose weight, he needs to get stronger, and quite frankly he needs to shut up. Stop talking about what you can do, what you did, or what you will do. Shut up, get in the gym, and come back and prove your doubters.
Roll Bass and War Ryno for me
Gil... you got that massive contract and havent lived up to expectations of a MAX contract player
Is it really that hard for him to see the fans side of this hostility? The main reason we cant get a REAL superstar in Orlando for Dwight is his freaking contract

Are people with twitter accounts telling him this? Because they should be.
I hope people aren’t re-tweeting one big love fest with Arenas. He needs to know what a weirdo he is. BTW, I quit reading eddy’s blog primarily due to his admiration and celebration of Arenas as a person.
by CaliFlorida on Jun 25, 2011 1:00 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
I guessed you missed the part where, you know, I butchered Arenas in my evaluation of him and wanted to give him a grade worse than an F but couldn’t. I guess my unique ability to separate his goofy personality and Twitter antics from his on-court performance is too much.
I write for Magic Basketball and have a Twitter account.
I've been on a weeklong vacation in Orlando and at the beach, so I'm super late with this.
But just to make a counterpoint: I think his “goofy personality and Twitter antics” have a lot to do with his on-court struggles. By his own admission, his problems are mental (they’re also physical, but there’s no hope that he’ll ever realize that). Yet he continues to be unfocused and delusional. Off the court, that is manifested in his goofiness and unfunny Twitter account. On the court, that is manifested with his crazed demands for more playing time and absolute unwillingness to see that he is not the same player he used to be, and he never will be. So, I’m sorry, but I can’t celebrate one manifestation of his mental problems when the other manifestation is going to continue to ruin this franchise until either his contract ends in three years, or he is mercifully amnesty’d.
Otis Smith, what you've just done is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard of. At no point in your rambling, incoherent trades were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having witnessed it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

This is exactly how I feel.
You don’t see these types of dumb antics from Jordan, Kobe, Duncan, Pierce or Garnett. Winners don’t embarrass themselves by broadcasting to the world that they are dumb, immature a-holes. Maybe Arenas’ lame twitter nonsense is amusing to Heat fans and college freshman, but if you care about the Magic, it’s maddening.
Oh and planking is a snore-fest and is not funny. Don’t go tweeting LMAO just on account of Arenas lying flat on various props. It’s not like he’s going around Orlando flashing hairpies.
I am not fan of Arenas.
but just a question: how about Dwight planking? Does it change how you feel about this thing?
I'm sure he feels it deeply

playing great is all about confidence
If Gil gets his confidence in his athletic abilities back, he will start to perform at a higher level. MJ was the greatest because he NEVER let anyone shake his confidence. Same reason why Lebron will never be MJ is because he lets people get in his head. If Gil can get back to his form, which is just freely flowing throughout the game, he will be a good asset to this team. I tend to think he will get back to form with getting back in shape.
Look
I understand he is a highly (over)paid athlete and shouldn’t let anything affect his play; that being said, I also realize he’s human, (and a head case.) A little bit of positive reinforcement might go a long way in this situation. We saw flashes of how good Gil could potentially still be… mixed in with a bunch of games we wish we could forget.

This guy is a joke
Guy doesn’t nothing but talk smack and not accept any responsibility. I watched every game last year. Dude – you suck! Couldn’t make a shot, couldn’t defend, couldn’t handle! You are a professional making 20 mil a year – you have to perform at a professional level. I mean cmon, this is getting ridiculous. Otis has to take the fall for this bum – now we have to listen to him run his mouth all summer. What a joke. Any reasonable coach would have pulled him too, when you are considering we had a good team and were hoping to make a deep run. The guy was killing our chances. I want him GONE. At least man up and admit you just didn’t play well last year. Moron.
Break the Curse
Hey Gilbert...
A little lesson in being a man and showing humility. How about: “I was disappointed in my performance last year. I think that with some more playing time and adjustement to my teammates, I can help this team reach its goal of winning a championship. I just want to help the team win a championship. I’m gonna work hard this off-season and come back next year better than ever.” You come over, play like a bum, and want to throw the best coach we ever had under the bus for not giving you enough PT. How about you beat our Chris f/ing Duhon before you do that.

I cant believe I'll say this
but unless Gilbert Arenas makes a comeback (20ppg) nearly impossible otherwise I think the Magic are screwed and Dwight is gone and we’re headed to the lottery. Otis Smith must be fired in order to have any chance of saving the team everything he trades for or signs turn into sh*t.
I think many are overreacting to this tweet.
When Terry was put into a game, he was given a lot of freedom about how he played. Give Terry the ball and let him be creative to do what he needed to. He wasn’t tasked with rigidly playing within the system. That’s what Arenas was talking about.
I don’t think Arenas could have played as well as Terry if he was given the same leeway, but that STYLE of play is what Arenas excels at. The rigid system SVG runs doesn’t mesh well with Arenas (or Terry’s) free-wheelin’ style of play.
Hopefully — and it’s a big hope — with physical improvements over the off-season, Arenas will be able to play better overall…which will in turn give Stan a bit more trust to give a little more freedom in his play (esp. if he’s playing against 2nd units).
by The BBQ Chicken Madness on Jun 24, 2011 6:18 PM EDT reply actions 2 recs
Recommended. I doubt that any player is allowed to play with absolute freedom, and all players are bound to some extent within a system. The extent of freedom which a player is afforded is directly related to his capacity, which Arenas hasn't shown much.
by Matt1325 on Jun 26, 2011 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
True.
I certainly wouldn’t have played Arenas much, considering his play. I would have played him over Duhon — which SVG did.
I really hope he turns it around somewhat over the off-season. He’s got great court vision, good passing skills, and at times a helpful shot. He “could” be a Terry style game-changer as a 6th man. He needs to get his legs back, then he needs to show that his work (particularly on defense) yielded results. If he can do that, SVG should let him off the leash a bit to play more his style on offense.
I don’t know if he can, but I hope.

this needs to be green
Dwight Howard - "My Gosh, what is that smell?"
Otis Smith - "That's the smell of success my man."
Dwight Howard - "No, it smells like a used Arenas... filled with... Turkoglu..."
Otis Smith - "You know, success smells like that to some people." (turns and walks toward a crowd of fans)
Fan#1 - (Disgusted) "What is that? Smells like a turd covered in burnt hair..."
Otis Smith - (Tries to act casual and walk away) "Woah, what's that smell?"
and now it is.

I'm in for Gil
He’s not a bad guy, and he’s one of the best ballers in the world. In 2006, he scored 60 against the Lakers. He got injured and it was pretty serious. Then he aged.
I think he might have a year or two left in him at the elite level, if he is allowed to play his way. None other than Dwight Howard said as much, last month.
Forget the CBA. Until or unless it happens, that clause to cut a bad contract doesn’t exist. And if D12 is in Gil’s corner, it won’t be Gil’s contract that gets cut.
The necessary option is to get behind our man and support him. We’re shopping Jameer. This should tell you where things are going. It could all change tomorrow, but the way things stand now, Arenas is our point guard, and he is capable of being the best in the league. Can we carve out a little optimism here? Just once?
by MagicPhan on Jun 24, 2011 11:11 PM EDT reply actions 1 recs
just be realistic
the Magic aren’t considered a contender with the current roster.
And even Otis knows Gil is not fit enough to play basketball at the moment. Count on him as our starting point guard? That’s a nightmare.
by isum on Jun 25, 2011 4:10 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
To be fair
I don’t want or expect to convert anyone. But until the roster changes, this is what we have. Given that, I’ll just plod ahead as I’ve always done: optimistic and in constant denial.
I have a lot of sympathy for Gil as a person
But he can’t expect unconditional love from fans, coaches and teammates he’s done nothing but let down.
I’m sure it’s not easy for him and no doubt he’s in a bad place right now, and that’s unfortunate. I hope things get better for him. But his performances are sucking, and as long as that remains the case, nothing is going to change. So, as a basketball fan…I want him off my team.
And I want to be the next Jerry West!
The difference between me and Gil is that unlike him, I’m not delusional about my basketball abilities.

speaking of twitter, anyone on it lately??
D12 is trending topic, and this is what most of the comments about him look like:
@NBAPRGuy It’s official, Lakers will acquire Center Dwight Howard for Bynum/Odom and future 1st round draft picks
@NBAPRGuy isn't an accurate source.

The team going in the toilet and a living legend walking out the door (again).
What do you think I’m talking about?
Right, I see,
Because those things are happening as a direct result of fans endearing themselves to the tweets of gilbert eff-in arenas. I guess I didn’t realize the dramatic impact that we average joes can have on player performance, offseason training habits, and even front office decisions, just by reacting to a player’s twitter. We really can do anything if we put our minds to it!

The point isn't whether you can do something about it.
The point is the guy is the biggest embarrassment in the NBA, a complete failure, and a primary cause for the Magic’s disastrous roster situation. Placed in that context, these “goofy” tweets that some are so infatuated with are difficult to find amusing as a Magic fan.

Exactly - a professional athlete making close to $20M/yr just figuring out that he needs
to rehab from 3 surgeries – the last of which was Sept ’08. Kind of like Barry Bonds rubbing “the cream” and “the clear” all over and just thinking it was flaxseed oil. I gotta throw the BS flag!
I think his latest tweets are an effort to endear himself to someone (Otis, D12, fans) with words rather than actions. “Watch I’m gonna be a star again – just trust me”. Still a bum in my mind. Almost 3 fricking years w/o rehab and we’re now supposed to believe him. He had tons of time after he got suspended for the gun show. If he had heart he would have come back from that in prime condition showing the league he was not washed up. I’m still hoping there’s full amnesty in the new CBA and we use it to get rid of the BIG ZERO
