Vince Carter for league minimum?

Does anyone know if Phoenix is planning to waive Vince Carter? Assuming they do, rather than swallow his 18.3 million dollar 2011/2012 season, should the Magic try to sign him for the league minimum?

JJ Redick may not be a star, but when healthy he's a serviceable starter. Why not start him and try to sign Vince as a backup? He is certainly declining, but he might be able to provide some cheap scoring off the bench.

If the Magic avoid trying to bring on a comparable replacement for Jason Richardson, of which there seems to be none available, and can exercise the anticipated amnesty clause to waive Gilbert Arenas, we will have plenty of cap space in the offseason to lure Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

Not to mention if Washington uses amnesty to waive Rashard Lewis, we could likely sign him back on for the league minimum.

I mean, why not continue the trend of bring back old players? Especially if it frees up the necessary funds to make a splash in offseason free agency.

I doubt he'll come for the minimum

He could get more money from some other team. Also even if we did cut gilbert we wouldn’t have “plenty of cap space” to get cp3 or deron williams. Unless we find a way to unload turks contract.

Assuming the Franchise Tag thing comes through, we use that on Howard. If the hard cap is set at 60 as suggested, that means we can go up to 59mil without including Howard.

Not including Arenas (waived) or Howard (franchise) or total payroll next season is 37mil, give or take.

This gives us roughly 22mil to play with.

Granted, we need another 2 guard, which is why I’m suggesting trying to go after Vince Carter — or anyone — on the cheap, and start Redick.

Hopefully Daniel Orton will be feasible to pick up Malik Allen’s minutes behind Howard and we won’t need to go waste money on another backup.

No

If he wasn’t a backup when he was here, all of the sudden Magic fans want him to be the backup? NO MORE VINCE CARTER!!! If things are bad he is a quitter.

Yes, of course the Suns are going to cut him loose.

And yes, for the league minimum, he’d be an excellent pickup.

But he’s nowhere close to the “league minimum” zone in his career. We don’t know what the new CBA will look like, but in a hypothetical universe in which the current CBA applies to next season, my guess is Vince would still get more than the MLE.

I don’t think the Magic would want him back, even if they could afford him, which is kind of too bad. He’s better than J-Rich (in SVG’s offense, anyway) and had a better Magic career than most folks realize.

But unfortunately he added to his rep as a choke artist while in Orlando.

I view any possible roster move in terms of whether it helps convince Dwight to stay. I doubt reacquiring Vince would do anything in that regard. So I don’t really see the point in considering Vince.

Maybe VC will take the minimum to play with his hometown team again.

(unlikely)

(especially if Dwight doesn’t want him here)

Otis Smith, what you've just done is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard of. At no point in your rambling, incoherent trades were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having witnessed it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

You're doing it wrong.

I appreciate the stab at a nostalgia line-up. But VC is too recent to have emotional resonance.

I say bring in T-mac as 6th man and sign Shaq to back up Dwight.

If T-mac wants to stay with Detroit and Shaq is in love with this retirement notion of his at the very least a Lil’ Penny Sprite commercial or two would go a long way.

I would welcome T Mac back

He actually had a pretty solid season. Maybe he works out hard this offseason and recaptures some Magic…….

Also T Mac is a second banana.

And he is not old by 2 guard standards. Plus he still creates, and can pass great, and is 6’7" 6’8". It would have been nice if he had stayed, but maybe it is time for him to come home.

Carter Would be more then Happy to Come back to Orlando...

At this point in Carter’s Career he still Can play but he isn’t worth the 16 Million per year anymore, If he is bought out I think and if you have common Sense he will be coming to Join A Team in Florida Either that being the Magic Or the Miami Heat, I personally feel he would Join Orlando if the Suns buy him out he will end up with Orlando Or Miami. Carter was pretty good while wearing that Magic uniform and I am sure if we would have had him during the playoffs we would have won that Atlanta Series…I am all GO for Carter coming back to Orlando.

Except that Orlando does not want him.

They did trade him if you didn’t notice.

No.

He wouldn’t be available for league minimum, and even if he was, the Magic should not trade for him.

I don't get the whole 'pop-tart cats pooping rainbows thing,' but then, I'm old. So, there it is.
