[Gilbert] Arenas believes he is still a starter, and can recite his stats without prompting.
This was (and is) a big issue between he and [Stan] Van Gundy. Arenas stayed diplomatic and avoided making it a full-blown controversy, largely out of his respect for [Otis] Smith, who rescued him.

I can't wait for that amnesty clause

lol
Arenas will make more than Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Steve Nash and more than Magic starter Jameer Nelson ($6.5 million) and back-up Chris Duhon ($3.4 million) combined.
And if Arenas thinks he could start this year when most of the time he couldn’t get enough lift to do a lay-up, then what can I say… and please don’t start the “he didn’t get enough minutes” crap. The only thing that makes a little sense is that a shorter season would give him more time to get in shape, I just hope he still has the work ethic to profit from it. And btw if that amnesty clause goes through and Otis doesn’t use it…

Otis will have to use it. I can't see upper management letting him keep his job if he doesn't use it. We're talking double Gil's salary beecause of the luxury tax.
And the nice thing is if the amnesty clause is the same as the last one, Otis won’t be able to resign Gil.

Otis Smith, what you've just done is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard of. At no point in your rambling, incoherent trades were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having witnessed it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I doubt Otis brought him in to back up Nelson

And that's why Otis should be fired.

I'll give him 20 games into next season. If he and Arenas can't get their business straight, than I'm all for it. Right now though SVG deserves just as much blame as Otis

Yeah, SVG deserves a lot of blame for Arenas having no knees or work ethic.
But hey, he’s a good dude.

No, the sharks were killed by a meticulously calculated penny plot.
That’s why Arenas is a lil pudgy.

yeah, he's a good dude. He has respect for Otis but not for Stan nor the team.

SVG deserves the blame for the Magic losing in the 1st round
We were the better team, we underperformed. That is on Stan.

Oh, right. Simple as that.
Players didn’t miss open shots consistently, and ATL didn’t have athletic advantages across the board, and guys that were traded for to revamp the offense didn’t underperform. Stan obviously lost his coaching acumen from the last two years.

I really don't think the Magic were the better team, either.

We had a clear advantage at one position.
PG was a push, and SG, SF, PF, and bench was all in ATL’s favor. So yeah, I guess we were the better team in Denialopolis.

We were +6.28 in MOV
I mean, upsets happen, just look at GST over Dallas all that time ago, but they typically happen because of coaching, no?

Dallas lost because they didn't have the right type of players to matchup with the GST players, not because they got outcoached.
Some teams just are constructed in a certain way that gives other teams major problems. And those other teams give major problems to other teams, and those other teams can give major problems to the first teams. It’s all a circle, independent of coaching.

I get that, but I don't think coaching is the specific problem in this instance.
In the playoffs, and in general, I think SVG could have gotten more out of JRich. I think most people would agree.
But I think it comes down to making and missing shots, and against Atlanta, the Magic missed shots. That can’t entirely be on Stan.
Arenas is not good enough to start in the NBDL...
as for Otis… I just wish there was a way we could send him and Gil back to Golden State… or anywhere else
Blue and White Ignite..... BOOM!
....
the only question in my head about the team right now is whether it should be Hedo or Gil that we “drop” in this amnesty clause.
Gil. Worse player owed more money.
Easy call.

Is for us
We’re not mates with him.
Would surprise me precisely zero percent to see Nelson traded, Turk cut via amnesty clause and Arenas handed the keys next season.

It boggles my mind that you are so quick to toss Otis's judgement under the bus. Give Gil and Otis a chance

It is like Otis has turned rabid and our fan ban has to put him down
I just hope you all are wrong. You certainly can very well be wrong, and if a very good looking poster like myself thinks you are wrong…… :P

Smith is a solid judge of young talent
I still have hope for Orton and Clark.
But Smith has consistently shown little ability to do is accurately evaluate current talent. He overpaid Lewis, he’s overpaid Bass, he’s traded for a scrub in Arenas, didn’t correctly see that Turkoglu is done (or I guess, more accurately, didn’t stick to his conviction), didn’t see that Jason Richardson doesn’t fit Orlando’s system well, overrated Q-Rich and Duhon.
When you’ve got a guy who’s basically got two decisions right in his entire Magic career when it comes to evaluating current talent – in moving Alston and binning Turk in his FA year, and he even screwed up that second evaluation by going back on it – it’s hard to have any optimism about his judgment going forward.
We’re not tossing Otis Smith’s judgment under the bus. He threw it there himself.

Overrated Q-rich? Why?
"You're gonna notice me when I come in. I'm gonna make a statement without opening my mouth, and when I leave, you're gonna remember that."
Question for Evan or anyone!!
When do you think some kind of trading of players will start for the Magic for next season??
Thanks!!
Probably not until the new CBA is negotiated.
There could be some draft-day stuff, but I wouldn’t expect it.

Technically we're able to make trades right now.
As long as it’s with another team that is not still in the playoffs. But it’s really rare for teams to actually pull the trigger this time of the year. My guess is we’ll have to wait out the CBA negotiations, because that’ll determine how much wiggle room we have.

Ideally this could happen
1. Cut Gilbert using amnesty clause
2. Re-up J-Rich at an acceptable rate
3. Trade Jameer+ picks + something (anderson/bass/j-rich) for CP3
