Otis Smith should make the only decent move left for him … and resign.
Call it as you will … bad judgment, bad calculation or risky gambling … but the fact remains that the trades did not pan out leading to resounding under-performance of the team while creating financial complications which are hard - if not impossible - to overcome. The moves have also drastically reduced the chances of being able to retain the franchise player, hence jeopardizing the future of the team.
Otis Smith should have the decency to resign so that he could detract the blame of the ensuing post-trade fiasco on the best coach which the Magic has ever had. By doing so, he would also save his own skin from a messy campaign in ousting him by the force of public outrage … the type of campaign which was used to oust Brian Hill, resulting in him never being able to land another head-coaching job.
The choice is his now … what would it be?
