Recently in an interview, Dwight Howard argued that he wasn't going to change the way he approaches the officials in the NBA. His argument is that changing the way he handles the officials would affect the way he plays on the court in a negative fashion.
The question I have is, what is to be gained from being demonstrative to officials? Clearly Dwight thinks this is an integral part of his on-court personality but I don't see the strategy as being effective at all. I know that in reality the techs only amount to a point and the suspensions haven't really hurt us in any way. But it still seems like insanity to purposefully annoy the officials and make their decision to call against you easier.
So is there any upside or positive effect whatsoever to Dwight's attitude towards officials?
