Regal FC Barcelona dropped game-two of the EuroLeague’s quarterfinals to Panathinaikos Athens, 75-71, at home this Thursday, March the 24th, and the series is now tied at 1-1 as the venue shifts to Greece.
Orlando Magic’s Fran Vázquez came off the bench and logged 20:58 of playing time. Vázquez scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, grabbed two boards and blocked two shots.
Due to shady paint protection on Tuesday’s game, Xavi Pascual chose to start Kosta Perovic in the middle. Vázquez came off the bullpen early and was part of a 7-2 run fueled by the second-unit that gave Barça a 12-point lead midway through the second-quarter, being really affective closer to the rim.
In the second-half, Vázquez didn’t get as much run due to Boniface N’Dong’s efficient play (10 points and three rebounds on 11:32 of playing time).
Barça led by 10 at the half and was relatively in control but got overwhelmed in the second-half, getting outscored 47-33 after intermission. Diamantidis, the front-runner for the league-s MVP, scored 15 second-half points and dished five second-half assists. PAO also hit seven three-pointers to fuel that run.
The series resumes with game-three next Tuesday, March the 29th, in Athens.
