Orlando Magic Game vs. New York Knicks Draws Highest Local TV Ratings in Nine Years

Via a team press release, the Sun Sports telecast of the Orlando Magic's victory against the New York Knicks last night posted the highest ratings of any Magic game broadcast on that network since a January 30th, 2002 loss to the L.A. Lakers. The broadcast had a 4.7 average rating in the Orlando/Daytona Beach/Melbourne market for approximately 68,731 homes, and peaked from 9:30-9:45, when approximately 85,732 homes tuned in.

The broadcast performance indicates a strong upward trend for Sun Sports, which reports viewership for Magic games broadcast on that network has risen 30 percent this season over last through the same number of telecasts.

The Knicks' acquisition of Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups last week, coupled with the free-agent signing of Amar'e Stoudemire, has made them a must-watch team. Last night's game was the first meeting between the Knicks and Magic since the trade with the Denver Nuggets which brought Anthony and Billups to the Big Apple.

Orlando plays New York twice more this month, with New York hosting both contests at Madison Square Garden.

I'm guessing national TV spots were bought at the outset of the season

So the next two meetings in NY might also not be national. I wonder if the networks can scramble to change that?

Lot of Knick fans watching and at the game.

Glad they could tune in to see us win!

It was a playoff level game.

Both teams made runs, both teams made big shots. Both teams showed emotion. Unbelievable. Magic made the defensive stops when they had to. That is how you win in the playoffs. Make them when you need them.

help is on the way.............

Reports are that the Orlando Magic could sign Rasheed Wallace for the rest of the season trying to make a strong run for playoffs, hopefully if these rumors are true will be great because if ’Sheed coming in good shape and mentally prepared he will be a great addition to this Magic roster.

I can imagine referees must be salivating for this to happen. Dwight and Sheed on the same team?

Just think of all the technicals they’ll be able to throw at them!

Now, seriously, I don’t think Rasheed Wallace is the answer, but who knows…

I'd say it's a good idea only so Rasheed can't play for Boston

He always seems to be good at baiting the refs blowing the whistle against Howard. It’s not as bad as it once, but even preventing for 1 or 2 games in a series can be a huge equalizer.

Its not that we hate northerners...

Personally…I dislike how some northerners come here and complain about how much better things are there…I’m like…well…95 runs North too… :)

We are from up north.

And we hate it up there. Although I am basically a Floridian since I have lived here since I was 6 months old. But god I hate it up there. So much better down here.

I had box seats and the game was awesome!!

There were a lot of Knicks fans at the game, which kinda pissed me off. Hey does anyone know what Turk actually said to the refs?

by OtownMagicFan on Mar 2, 2011 9:06 PM EST reply actions

Not even the refs know what Turk said

They just saw him still talking and tossed him

by CaneGrad05 on Mar 2, 2011 10:59 PM EST up reply actions

Don't think so

I’m sure I heard him mutter “…the new CBA…”
