Orlando and CP3
So by now you've probably heard that Chris Paul has requested a trade from the New Orleans Hornets. According to reports by ESPN Paul's ideal destination would be playing for the New York Knicks. Sadly for the Hornets the Knicks have very few attractive pieces to offer the Hornets in return for their superstar point guard. This is where Otis Smith and the Orlando Magic need to step in. Smith needs to go all in and offer anything outside of Dwight Howard to get Paul even if he refuses to sign an extension initially. Orlando has a lot more assets to offer for Paul than the Knicks do including multiple starters (Nelson/Bass/Redick) and young talent (Orton/Anderson). On top of that to sweeten the deal Orlando can even offer to take one of the Hornets more undesirable contracts such as Trevor Ariza or Emeka Okafor as part of a package deal for Paul. I've come up with a hypothetical deal that would send Cp3 to Orlando that is a much more attractive offer than the Knicks can offer.
Orlando receives:
PG- Chris Paul
C/PF- Emeka Okafor
New Orleans receives:
PG- Jameer Nelson
SG- J.J. Redick
SG/SF- Quentin Richardson
C/PF- Daniel Orton
PF/C- Brandon Bass
PF- Ryan Anderson
2012/2013 1st round picks.
In this scenario Orlando acquires the best player involved in the trade and the second star Dwight Howard desires in the form of Chris Paul. New Orleans dumps long term salary in the form of Okafor and acquires 3 potential starters in Nelson/Redick/Bass while also getting the rebuilding process underway with the acquisitions of Anderson, Orton and 2 future first round picks.
Now here comes the reality which may be bittersweet for Orlando fans. A) Chris Paul can decide he doesn't like it in Orlando and he bolts to the Knicks in free agency while leaving Orlando with Okafor's contract and limiting Orlando's ability to acquire a superstar in free agency. B) If Cp3 expresses interest in signing an extension somewhere other than with Knicks to big market teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers or the Los Angeles Clippers Orlando is virtually out of the Cp3 sweepstakes. The Clippers and Lakers both have a lot more assets to offer the Hornets for Paul than Orlando does. Examples being Bynum/Odom/Ebanks from the Lakers and Kaman/Eric Gordon/Eric Bledsoe from the Clippers. So as an Orlando fan you need to hope that Cp3 keeps on his demand for the Knicks and trust in Otis Smith to swoop in and offer the house for Cp3 without the requirement of an extension.

Hmm
I forgot about the Clippers…hopefully Donald Sterling is a good enough reason for CP3 to not request at trade there.
As for your trade, I doubt we would have to give up both Bass and Anderson..Hornets would probably want Anderson, but remember, Bass is still young and can develop, and he used to be on the Hornets so he might have extra sentiment there…I wouldn’t be surprised if they chose Bass over Anderson to be honest.
I would also wonder who would the Magic rather have…Ariza or Okafor? I personally think Ariza would be a great fit the 2nd time around with the Magic, as we need an athletic wing to guard Lebron. We can always pick up a cheaper backup C in FA or trade

However
You have to remember that the Magic don’t hold the cards for this trade. The Magic would likely have to take on the longer and more expensive contract to get it done. In turn Bass would have to be involved to make the contracts work.
That's true
but I feel like if CP3 can’t force a trade to NY, Dwight Howard would be the #1 person he’d want to play with. In other words, we need CP3 to help us out and ask for a trade to Orlando! But I will be more than happy to take back Monta Ellis..I like his playing style (i know i’m in the minority)

MLE- yeah
"I'm a little dysfunctional
You're the problem, Please don't awakin me
And I'm that way cause back in the day
Most have forsaken me"
yea
thats what i was thinking..i thought that we should have never traded VC to the suns and played him at SF… think of our lineup we coulda had…
Pg: Nelson/Arenas
Sg: VC
Sf: J Rich
Pf: Bass/Anderson
C: Dwight
That would have been a crazy offensive starting 5..but I guess the suns wanted VC’s expiring contract…but i wonder what kind of damage that lineup could have done last year in the playoffs

The fact is Carter will be 35 years old in January
…and his best days are without question behind him.
That being said, I really liked how he improved on his efficiency the second half of the 2009-10 season with the Magic, but he’s just too old and past his prime now.

Clippers hands down have a better package. No way Magic can match their offer.
You forgot to include that the Clippers also have Minnesota’s 1st round pick which likely will be a lottery pick. Plus if they can resign Jordan they can add him to the trade and be able to absorb Ariza’s contract from NOLA. The Hornets get nearly and entire young core instantly PG/SG/SF/C + high draft pick + $12m expiring contract + unload nearly $20m in unneeded contracts.
Both of NOLA’s burdensome contracts (Okafor and Ariza) just happen to fit nicely into what would be a seriously potent lineup for the Clippers.
From a CP3 perspective, he would be looking at a signed for 3+year core plus multiple role players w/ 2+ years committed. On top of that they also would have $8.5m in cap space and if they amnesty Mo Williams (very likely if they acquire CP3), they would have $17m in cap space plus a $5m MLE to sign multiple free agents. That means that the Clippers will hover close to or below to the salary cap, so Sterling’s history of being cheap is a non-issue:
CP3 / Mo Williams
? / Randy Foye
(Ariza*) / Ryan Gomes
Blake Griffin / ?
Emeka Okafor / ?
You have the 3 stellar defenders in Okafor, Ariza and Paul and a dynamic inside outside game and that is before the signing of what will surely be a top tier wing in free agency. All in a major market. Unless Dwight does some serious convincing, there is very little chance that CP3 does not ok this move.
Yeah...
However Donald Sterling is the owner.

The new CBA has an 85% (of cap) minimum team salary expenditure clause.
That means even Sterling has to spend at least $50m. Without making any trades they are at least $5m under that. So regardless they have to add something for that amount.
If he decides to do it on the cheap, instead of amnestying Williams, he can trade Mo Wiliams to any number of teams looking for a starting caliber PG and with the new 150% trade rule (for under the cap teams) he could take back up to two $6m contracts to fill out his roster. Or vice versa take back one $4.5m contract in a trade. And then spend the difference to get up to the $50m minimum threshold.
I was excited about Orlando’s chances at landing CP3 until I looked into what a great position the Clippers are in right now.
It really is going to be up to Dwight to convince CP3 because there is nothing the front office can offer NOLA that comes remotely close to the Clips offer.
Unless the Clips offer isn't that strong
Because who in their right mind would want to go to the Clips? Unless the Clips are willing to give up something of substance for a rental, there’s no point to trading for Paul for them.
You can't reason with stupid.

Chris Paul has made it known that in addition to seeking the deal to send him to the Knicks, he is also open to the possibility of joining either the Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic. Yahoo
Given the choice, Dwight or Griffin? DeVos or Sterling? Sunshine or...oh, that one didn't work.
You get the idea though.
I think people have lost the whole reason for why he wants out. He either wants to play in NY because he thinks that team would be dominant and he’s friends with those guys or he wanted to go to Orlando because he thinks that team would be dominant. He doesn’t really care about playing in a “big city” it just so happens that his friends were in the biggest city. He’s played his whole career in New Orleans and Oklahoma City.

Chris Paul already gave NOLA his list of teams that he would be ok with in a trade.
In other words whom he would resign with:
1. NY
2. LAC or Orlando.
After that its not up to him, but which trade package NOLA (Demps) thinks is the best for the future of the Hornets. That offer is clearly the Clippers.
The only outside chance is if Otis can whip up a multiple team trade to enhance what the Magic currently have to offer. Or as I stated earlier, somehow Dwight can convince him to take the Clippers off the list of teams he would resign with.
I didn't realize Paul had told people where he'd like to be traded.
You can't reason with stupid.

way too much noise in the rumor mill right now - this tweet by AW totally contradicts his own earlier report.

Paul has indicated Clippers and Warriors could raise chances of keeping him long-term if they sign center Tyson Chandler too, sources say.
I don't think you understand
I mean because Sterling is a giant @$$. He’s a racist slumlord millionaire.

Ah! ok - let's cross our fingers and hope that Chris Paul really values what a team owners' ethics are. If so we might have a shot.
Accusations of racism and housing discrimination
On November 15, 2005, the Associated Press reported that Sterling had been ordered by U.S. District Judge Dale Fisher to pay $5 million in fees to plaintiff’s attorneys in a case accusing him of trying to drive out non-Korean tenants, particularly blacks and Latinos, at apartments he owned in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood.3
In February 2009, Sterling was sued by former longtime Clippers executive Elgin Baylor for employment discrimination on the basis of age and race.4 The lawsuit alleges Sterling told Baylor that he wanted to fill his team with “poor black boys from the South and a white head coach.”5 The suit alleges that during negotiations for Danny Manning, Sterling said “I’m offering a lot of money for a poor black kid.”56 The suit noted those comments while alleging “the Caucasian head coach was given a four-year, $22-million contract,” but Baylor’s salary had “been frozen at a comparatively paltry $350,000 since 2003.”4
On August 8, 2009, the U.S. Department of Justice sued Sterling for housing discrimination in using race as a factor in filling some of his apartment buildings. The government’s ongoing case alleges Sterling refused to rent to non-Koreans in the Koreatown neighborhood and to African Americans in Beverly Hills.5 The suit alleges Sterling once said he did not like to rent to Hispanics because they “smoke, drink and just hang around the building,” and that “Black tenants smell and attract vermin.”5
Orlando must go all in.
We must do ANYTHING it takes to keep Howard. If Howard leaves it doesn´t matter if we get Odom, picks or whatever, we won’t be champs for years. So yeah, if it’s doable lets trade everyone for a megastar. If it works we get Dwight and Paul: Eastern Conference finalist for the next 5 years. If they leave we are screwed, but you won’t win if you don’t gamble.
