Dwight Howard Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers' Matt Barnes Says Howard "Want[s] to Be Here"
Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes has spoken with Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, Barnes says, and believes Howard wants to join the Lakers when he enters free agency in the summer of 2012, reports Andy Kamenetzky of ESPN Los Angeles. From Kamenetzky:
"You know, I've been hearing [rumors about] Dwight," acknowledged Barnes. "I've been hearing [rumors about] Baron [Davis in the event of getting amnestied]. I've been hearing stuff a lot lately. I've talked to both of those guys and they wanna be here, so we'll see what happens."
Barnes played alongside Howard in Orlando during the 2009/10 season, after which he opted out of his contract and signed with Los Angeles, his hometown team. Interestingly, Barnes signed with the Magic with the help of Howard and their shared angent, Aaron Goodwin, as Barnes explained during his introductory Orlando news conference:
[Dwight] texted me one morning, like, "Hey, you’re at the top of the list. What’s going on?" I’m like, "The final two teams are you and Cleveland, but I’m very interested in coming out there." Five hours later, my agent called me and said, "These guys want to offer you a deal. They don’t have much money, but it’s a good situation, and the potential is the sky." It’d give me the chance to play in the playoffs and go for a ring, and playing with Dwight is all great.
Howard has since left Goodwin for Dan Fegan.
The Lakers are among the most frequently mentioned potential destinations for Howard should he leave Orlando via trade or free agency.

I don't buy it
No offense to Barnes, but I kinda feel like he’s just trying to spread some hype.
As currently construced, the Lakers won’t have cap space to sign Howard next summer. As long as the Magic don’t trade him there, there’s no way Howard can end up in L.A.
L.A. has nothing of value that I as a Magic fan would want on my team. Not Bynum, Not Gasol, Not Odom, Not World Peace…. Meta that is!
Love the picture! LoL
Btw if you guys want to see the video of Barnes interview saying this I made a fanshot earlier with the video earlier…

Im just going to copy & paste my comment from ap's fanshot
I picture this is somewhat how the convo went down:
Barnes & Howard run into each other at a mutual friends party/house/charity event/whatever where they exchange pleasantries and…
Barnes asks Dwight, "So whats up man? You got your plan for what your doin next year or what?"
Dwight: "Nah man, just still tryin to figure out what to do, you know how it is."
Barnes: "True, true. You should come out to LA man, you’d LOVE it out here. The weather, the women, man."
Dwight: "Haha, yeah man, I know! I’d be nice out here, the Lakers are one of those dream places to play."
Barnes: "Haha, yeah man, you know it…"
a couple seconds pass and the two say something along the lines of "Alright man, Ima go talk to a couple people but I’ll catch up with you later." type-deal.
They didn’t seem that close when Matt was here and he tends to be a talker, so I really don’t put much stock into anything any what he or anyone of the like has to say on the matter.

I believe Matt Barnes believes everything that Matt Barnes said.
Anyone else who believes Mr. Barnes is either: A. a Lakers fan, or B. a moron.
I don't get the whole 'pop-tart cats pooping rainbows thing,' but then, I'm old. So, there it is.
Why sickening? Why would anyone want to keep a player who doesn’t want to stay-if that’s indeed the case? I hope he makes whatever decision will make him happy.

but we don't even know yet
if thats the case, so hearing all these rumors and speculation must be annoying.
Its not sickening when this has ZERO chance of happening
If Barnes wasnt an idiot and knew how contracts work, He’d know the Lakers cant just sign him next year. They dont have the space

It just kills me that there is absolutely no way Dwight plays for the Lakers unless it's via a trade,
so of course Otis is going to end up making that trade.
I like to watch.
I've been thinking why Dwight is so enamored of the Lakers or Knicks.
And I can’t really figure it out exactly. Nothing about those franchises is a real improvement for him long term. For the Magic’s sake, it would be best if Dwight is just milking this because he’s an attention whore and can’t help himself. If it’s not, oh boy. We just witnessed a long CBA fight about money that was upheld in the name of “competitive balance”, and yet, the next CBA will be about stars playing where they want to play. Both sides will have valid arguments, and the game will again be threatened by numerous things.
I’m beginning to wonder why fans aren’t just turning on the whole system and ignoring it. That’s the only real actual change that will convince owners or players to act differently.
No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Because the majority of "fans" are the morons who like the miami heat
and root for individual players instead of teams.
