Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

The Many Options of the Howard Trade

It has become sadly obvious that Dwight Howard will not be in Orlando past this season, but rather than cry about it, the Magic must maxamize his value. The following options are avalible The Nets and the Lakers are the two suitors who have something to offer...The Nets package, Brooke Lopez and 4 1st rd picks, isnt as appealing as what can be had from the Lakers, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. Its the Lakers ability to 3 or 4 teams involved that make them the perfered partner....lets explore the options. As we know from the failed Chris Paul trade, Houston is willing to give back Luis Scola (18ppg, 8rpg) and Kevin Martin (24ppg)...this is a very interesting package and would jump start a rebuild process, you could always keep Pau Gasol in Orlando as well... Andrew Bynum is IMO undesirable in Orlando, I have no problem keeping Gasol, but Bynum must be sent to a 3rd team, thankfully there are many possibilities... To Golden State for Monta Ellis, I wouldnt want to put him next to Kevin Martin because he doesnt share the ball, but he could be effective with Pau Gasol...he hasnt haf the oppertunity to play with a good big man... To Atlanta for Josh Smith, powerful finisher, would be a good pick and roll partner for Monta Ellis, young, athletic and fun to watch To Minnesota for Michael Beasley and Derrick Williams, the most potential but also the greatest unknown...Beasley was pretty good last year, Williams was another top pick....Kahn is an idiot and could be convinced to include Wes Johnson or Anthony Randolph A lot of these guys have been rumored for each other, Andre Igoudala, Danny Granger, Josh S mith, and Monta Ellis are constantly in the rumor mill...Utah could be convinced to move Al Jefferson and/or Paul Milsap...Chicago could be convinced to move Carlos Boozer and/or Luol Deng...Boston has even offered Rajon Rando (i highly doubt it tho) If I missed any names please let me know....so what is the best possible realistic combination for Orlando? Could this be

It todays NBA you need a few pieces…

1)PG to run the Pick and Roll
2)PF to finish the Pick and Roll
3)Defensive, Shot Blocking, Rebounding Center
4)Outside shooting SG
5)Perimiter defender SF

I know its kind of rediculas but….

Would NJ consider trading Brook Lopez and their picks for Pau Gasol or Kevin Martin and Luis Scola…

If so Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams, Brook Lopez and multiple picks wouldnt be a bad start to a rebuilding team

smh

No Beasley.
And seriously, if you were Buss would you trade Gasol for Lopez?

Buss wouldnt be getting Lopez, he would be getting Howard, and its just thinking put loud…

No Beasley? I guess youve never watched him play

I have seen him. That's why "no."

More to a player than the shiny stat line of points per game.

None of those picks will even be in the top 10…

I’m not crazy about Lopez, he a good scorer but all around, not great…he can be a very good role player, but not a guy who can carry a team…

I view everything like an stock broker, I gague the value of the assets…Howard is such a huge asset, such a valueable chip…the magic should be able to rebuild the entire franchise around this single trade…that’s how much value he has…if Orlando could get 4 solid pieces like Martin, Scola, Jrue Holiday, and Iguodala…that would be the direction to go in

Agreed.

In principle you are 100% right.

The Magic are unable to get anywhere near that value for him though.

Dwight Howard has essentially completely hamstrung the Magic front office by saying he will only play for the Nets, Lakers, and Mavs.

That makes it impossible for Orlando to work deals for better players than Andrew Bynum or Brook Lopez. That is the reality of the situation we are in at this moment.

Well the beauty of what LA can offer is how versatile it is, Bynum can be moved to a number of teams who are desperate for a natural Center…Atlanta wants to move Horford to PF where he is more natural…Golden State tried to sign Tyson Chandler and DeAndre
Jordon…Minnesota was rumored to have offered the 2nd overall pick of the 2011 draft, who turned into Derek Williams, and Michael Beasley for Bynum before the draft…

The versatility doesn’t stop there, saying you were to Monta Ellis for example….has been linked to Philly for Igoudala

If Otis is competent, he will be able to lay a strong foundation for the future

I don’t get why so many people are complaining about all the Nets fans here at netsdaily . . .

oh, wait, you mean this isn’t netsdaily?

I don't get the whole 'pop-tart cats pooping rainbows thing,' but then, I'm old. So, there it is.
