Hedo Turkoglu briefly became the talk of the NBA blogosphere last night when he dished a career-high 17 assists in the Orlando Magic's come-from-behind victory against the Dallas Mavericks. Here's a closer look at Turkoglu's playmaking.
Each of Turkoglu's teammates who took the court last night--all seven of them--received at least one assist from the 6-foot-10 veteran. Center Dwight Howard was the biggest beneficiary, as Turkoglu assisted 6 of his 9 field goals. Turkoglu also proved a big help to Ryan Anderson, tallying an assist on 2 of Anderson's four baskets.
11 of Turkoglu's assists went for two-point baskets, with the remaining six going to three-point shooters, including all four of his assist from the 4:52 mark of the third quarter to the 7:28 mark of the fourth. In all, Turkoglu assisted for 40 Orlando points.
Turkoglu scored 13 points on his own, meaning he's directly responsible for 53 of Orlando's 117 points on the night. The Magic outscored Dallas, 105-94, with Turkoglu on the court, so Turkoglu accounted for a little more than half of Orlando's offense in the 39:56 he logged.
