David Arnott of Rufus on Fire invites everyone to vote for which NBA teams will make the playoffs this year. It's a safe bet to include the Orlando Magic, yes?

Maybe the safest bet.
Miami is susceptible to losing a player. The Magic have depth — if Dwight woke up tomorrow morning and decided he was going to quit basketball to become a pastry chef, or a monk, or a jockey, I feel like the Magic are still a playoff team. Not a contender, but a playoff team. You can’t say that about Miami and LeBron… I don’t know if Wade + Bosh + the rest of those guys is a playoff team. Probably… I mean, the Heat made the playoffs last year. But it’s not 100% sure.
The Celtics barely won 50 last year, and they’re aging. If everyone underachieved in the regular season, then fell off due to age at the same time, who knows what could happen?
And the Lakers are pretty sturdily built… but they play in the West. Last year, the 8th seed in the West won 50. That probably won’t happen again,
Don’t get me wrong, all of these teams will make the playoffs. That’s a 100% possibility in all plausible scenarios. But the Magic don’t even have to worry about implausible scenarios.
Basketball trivia time! The Orlando Magic used 12 players during the 2009-10 season. How many of them posted an eFG% lower than Carmelo Anthony?
LOL,
if Dwight woke up tomorrow morning and decided he was going to quit basketball to become a pastry chef, or a monk, or a jockey, I feel like the Magic are still a playoff team.
Im going to imagine Dwight the Monk.
So you can keep knocking but won't knock me down
No love lost, no love found
Here is who I have to the Conferences...
East:
1. Heat
2. Magic
3. Celtics
4. Bulls
5. Hawks
6. Bucks
7. Knicks
8. Cavs/Bobcats
West:
1. L.A. Lakers
2. Mavs
3. Jazz
4. OKC
5. Blazers
6. Nuggz
7. Spurs
8. Suns
The 4/5 matchup in both confeences will be a toss up come the end of season.
Really? The Cavs?
In my opinion, the Cavs will be lucky to win 25 games. That is a terrible, terrible team… they don’t have any above-average starters, with the possible exception of Jamison. (And did Jamison do any good for the Wizards’ record last year?)
I also think you’re underestimating the Bobcats, who had the league’s best defense last year. Sure, they don’t have any offense to speak of, but they’ll beat the teams they’re supposed to beat pretty consistently.
Unless, of course, it takes playing time away from Ryan Anderson.
