ESPN Trade Machines- Chris Paul
A place to play GM for the Magic. Find a trade that works to get us CP3. I've become addicted since this afternoon. I think that this trade is very decent for all parties involved. I am obviously not an NBA gm but I hope to see Chris Paul in a Magic Uni. This way we can keep track of all of the ideas our brilliant Magic fans can come up with.

That's the one I keep coming back to
The Hornets can always send Nelson on if they don’t want him. Three team trades are invariably messy.

If Otis can’t make this happen, he’s the worst GM ever.
hahaha
That would be fantastic. Did you notice the +25 Wins?! Jeebus.

They get a legit big, which they need, a much better PG, and open up the starting SG spot for Gordon
Bass might be able to scrummage some playing time.

damn that would be sick
but i’m thinking the hortnets dont want RIP bad contract, they’d prob want Thorton cause hes young and has potential…would the trade work if we got RIP and the hornets got thornton?? RIP would be sickkk as our starting SG,hes such a great shooter off the pick and roll
maybe add Pietrus to the deal
cause we’d have a clog jam at SF with posey, Q, and Pietrus
LOL nm
i just realized Thornton is already on NO haha
imo, this fixes it
RIP would be sickkk as our starting SG,heswas such a great shooter off the pick and roll

He’s not as good at playing basketball. JR smith is a monster almost any team would love on thier bench, Pietrus at his best is a solid player but not near smith.
by David Polega on Jul 25, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think they are as far apart as you seem to be presenting. A monster? Really?
Isn’t that a tiny bit of hyperbole? JR is an average player. Who’s “better” sort of depends on what role you need from from these role players. MP a better defender. JR better as a quick ignition scorer/chucker.

Smith yes? He’s hyper quick and athletic which translates well into d. He was definitely part of the Kobe cover committee in the playoffs 2 years back.
And its more about Smith’s ability to explode a game, to win you a game you were losing. anytime that could come off your bench the check mark is always in the yes answer box. Pietrus can score, but he’s not going to make his own shot and drain 2 3’s followed by a steal and a dunk.
by David Polega on Jul 26, 2010 1:32 AM EDT up reply actions
he isnt spectacular but can get the job done somewhat
but mo williams doesnt even exist on the defensive end
they are identical twins on the offensive end though – streaky shooters who can shoot you in or out of a game
I think it's a good deal.
Jameer can be a bridge to Ty Lawson, who had flashes of greatness in his rookie year. They shave off almost six million in salaries. I definitely don’t think that Chauncey is worth 6 million more per year. It gives them more room to bargain with Carmelo. Just my opinion anyway.

But we get Paul as compensation for taking Okafor. New Orleans get…what? They give up Chris Paul and get Elton freaking Brand? Their front office would never work in the NBA again. Shinn would probably go on a rampage and shoot them all.

I love that for Orlando
but I don’t think Phoenix would do it. They don’t need another PF and I think they want to see Hill retire as a Sun.
by Ol' Uncle Munnerlyn on Jul 25, 2010 3:56 AM EDT up reply actions
True
Although they currently have 4 sfs right now. How are Turkoglu, Hill and Dudley all supposed to play? After losing Stoudemire it seems like they need size most of all. Granted hes not very tall, but Bass can semi effectively even play center for them. Then they could get some playing time for Dudley and add size. Plus Vince is an upgrade over Jrich.
by BlueSkyOneCloud on Jul 25, 2010 4:12 AM EDT up reply actions
Hmmm
Dudley is a PF, so he’ll likely be the backup to Warrick. But then Childress comes into the picture, whom I suppose could be Richardson’s backup. Lopez is pretty much solidified as their C, and Frye as his backup. Vince may be an upgrade over J-Rich, but not by much.
It’ll probably shake out like this:
PG – Nash/Dragic
SG – Richardson/Childress
SF – Turk/Hill
PF – Warrick/Dudley
C – Lopez/Frye

Never happen
Hornets will absolutely never ever ever ever ever ever take on more salary than they send away. That trade would not just increase their payroll, it would put them in luxury tax territory.
No chance at all.
by eltharion_doa on Jul 25, 2010 7:17 AM EDT up reply actions
The only reason they were considering trading Paul in the first place
is because they needed to cut payroll.
Now they have an unhappy superstar
Who is not going to resign with them or like playing for them for two years. If a player doesnt want to be there then its not wise for a organization to force him to be.

Well Heres the Trade
Orlando: CP3, RIP Hamilton, Charlie Vill, James Posey
NO: Vince Carter, Gortat, Jerebko, and Ben Gordon
Detroit: Okafor, Thornton, Pietrus, Bass and Orton
I think NO would get a nice deal here because Ben Gordon can be a great player, especially in a 6th man role behind Collinson and VC…they’d also get Gortat, and get rid of 2 bad contracts (Okafor and Posey)
Orlando would get CP3 obviously, RIP would be a great starting SG, Villinueva might be a good fit for our 4-1 system and backup Lewis, and Posey would replace Peitrus as our backup SF
Detroit would get rid of two bad contracts (Gordon and Villinueva), they’d get a young, promising SG in Thorton, and they would get a Center in Okafor that they need (Ben Wallace is on his last legs). They’d also get Pietrus expiring contract (and hes a good role player), and Bass to replace Villenueva (probably an upgrade since Villineuva was a bust and had a bad contract)
Oops I forgot to add Nelson
Nelson would go to Detroit as well
So it would be
NO: VC, Gortat, Jerbko, Ben Gordon
Orlando: CP3, RIP, Charlie Vill, and Posey
Detroit: Okafor, Nelson, Thornton, Pietrus, Bass, and Orton
It works too on ESPN, i just dunno how to copy the link…I think all 3 sides would benefit (Nelson can start at PG and shift Stuckey to SG)..as well as the reasons above
right under THIS TRADE IS SUCCESSFUL

Or this trade because I just realized we need a back up C
Orlando: CP3, Okafor, Rip Hamilton
Detroit: Nelson, Thornton, and Posey
NO: VC, Gortat, Ben Gordon, Jerebko, and Ryan Anderson
I feel Detroit might want more for Rip and Gordon.
Does Posey have more than one year left on his deal, maybe Detroit would rather take Peja’s expiring?
Two team trade.
Orlando sends Carter, Orton, Anderson and Gortat for
Paul, Okafor, and Posey.
Jameer traded to either Memphis or Indiana.
Memphis Meer for Mayo and Conley.
Indiana- jameer and pietrus for Granger
cp3 is not coming here.
your all wasting your time and are going to be let down when it does not happen.
Im aware.
I just like living in a dream world for a while.

Mayo would not be traded for Jameer.
And NO wouldn’t agree to anything where Jameer isn’t available to them to move. They want assets and Jameer, Gortat, Anderson, and Carter are the Magic’s best assets to give up, probably in that order. The only way the Magic could entice the Hornets is if we did move nearly all of our assets for their 1, Paul, as well as taking on their bad contracts of Posey and Ok. We would have to throw in 3 mil cash for VC when they cut him before June 30th.
In order to maximize the trade value for the Hornets, the Magic could make two separate trades. One would look like this
And the other would look like this
Now the Magic could give NO enough cash considerations to pay for all of VC’s buyout and if they want draft picks, you give it to em. The only thing that really hurts in this deal is having to give up Anderson, but if it means getting Paul, you do it. Hopefully Otis could work out a way to not give him up, but I doubt it. The only way NO trades Paul to Orlando is if we blow all other deals away and Anderson and the 2 separate trades would be a way to do it.
Sorry, should have clarified.
It doesn’t HAVE to be 2 separate deals, but in order to entice NO more, we could do it, and give them all the cash they need to pay the rest of VC’s contract once they waive him and he is owed 4 mil. Due to CBA, you can only add 3 mil. cash to trades. So if we made two separate trades, we could include as much as 6 mil. cash total for NO. I would think if we gave them that 4 mil for VC (effectively giving them to him for free, as they won’t have to pay his contract next year or the 4 mil waive fee) as well as those other pieces I mention, that is a fairly good deal for both teams that works under the CBA.
very true, which is something they would have to consider. But, if it is the deal breaker, how can they not?
I would think that a Paul-Howard duo over the (hopefully) rest of their careers in ORL would make the team much more in ticket sales (and playoff money) than 4-6 mil. as well as keeping them a legit title contender (even more-so than right now w/ the current team) for years to come.

So?
Rashard’s contract is worse than Brand’s. The only reason they don’t want him is b/c of his contract.
by Ol' Uncle Munnerlyn on Jul 25, 2010 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Is this really that hard to understand?
Reshard is a better player than Brand that actually plays the majority of the season’s games. PHI gave that terrible contract to Brand so all they can/should expect back is a terrible contract. The reason they do this is the contract length’s are the same and they get a better/healthier player. Who is also a better locker room presence/mentor for their young players.(Young/Speights)

by Souwantmyname on Jul 25, 2010 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions
My question for you about this trade is how does he fit w/ their team?
and the second part to that question is how Lewis would fit into their future economic plans? I doubt they would want to pay a guy an extra 7.7mil. (rounded up) over the next 2 years when he isn’t a massive upgrade over the guy they have now. Who knows? maybe Brand gets better after being fully healthy for a year and Lewis gets worse as he ages? too much risk I would think for Philly. I don’t mean to be dumping on your idea, just offering my thoughts on this. I will give you this though, Brand’s contract is 3 more years, but the 3rd yr is a ETO meaning he could end his contract before the 3rd year (which he probably wouldn’t do, obviously) and Lewis’ contract runs for 3 more yrs, but year three isn’t guaranteed (much like VC’s now) although I don’t know if it is “un-guaranteed” like Shamsports.com has it as, or if it is partially guaranteed like Carter’s.
Lewis fits in with their team because he can mentor Thaddeus Young
Young and Lewis have very similar body types in which neither are true SF’s or PF’s. If Lewis can help Young’s 3 point shooting and shot selection then by the time Lewis’s contract expires they would have a 25 year old Young ready for big minutes.
My argument was already stated why Lewis is better than Brand. Lewis becomes their 2nd or third scoring option which means his usage rate goes up which helps his point totals

Here you go
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29lrduc
Alright, here goes.
Orlando gets – Paul, Iggy, Speights, and West
76ers get – Jameer, Okafor, and Posey
Hornets get – Gortat, VC, Bass, Thad, and Kapono
Orlando would have to give 3 mil in cast to NO to help with VC’s semi expiring contract. Plus draft picks to NO and Philly
76ers get 2 starters to go along with evan turner and brand, plus quality player in posey, and Draft picks
Hornets get 3 mil cash, Draft picks, starting C, young talent in Thad, Bass, and expiring contracts of VC and Kapono. Plenty of young talent to build on.
Orlando’s lineup
Paul / Duhon / 3rd PG
Iggy / Redick / Q
Shard / Peitrus / Q (Maybe add Robinson)
West / Ryno / Speights
Howard / Speights / Orton
That’s traditional lineup. We all know what the 4-1 offense looks like.
The Magic would only have to spend 2 more mil which would be 4 with the luxury tax, plus the contracts for West and Speights expire way sooner than Okafor. I think that everyone will get people that can help them win. It will not be the perfect scenario, but it is probably the closest it will get. The other one I seen so far that is a little simpler is http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2eoqhkb
Whaaaa
Why would the 76ers trade half there talent away for two horribly crappy contracts and Jameer Nelson? Just because the trade technically works financially doesn’t mean it makes sense. Gotta think about it from the other side. Nobody’s going to make a trade unless they feel like it somehow helps them.
