- Matt Barnes says he’ll announce his free-agent plans Friday – Orlando Magic BasketBlog
Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel says Orlando Magic free-agent forward Matt Barnes is nearing a deal with his new team, and could announce it soon. According to Robbins, Barnes' representatives have denied that the Magic ever offered him a deal, as OrlandoMagic.com's John Denton wrote earlier this week.

Barnes' new team could be the Boston Celtics, according to A. Sherrod Blakely, who reports that Boston is "in the home stretch for" him. I don't doubt Blakely's sources, but signing there wouldbe strange, considering he'd have to accept a paycut.

Is there a connection here. I don’t think Barnes would settle for the Vet minimum. I assume Boston has used the BAE.

he cant be signed and traded for however much money he wants as he has no bird rights with any team
he can only be signed using cap space
The Magic could sign him for the BAE or 120% of last years salary
and then trade him, I believe.

I'd pass on that trade.
I believe Sheed retired and depending on who the filler is, we’d probably be down 1 swingman on the depth chart. Plus, I’m not really sure who I’d want from the Celtics’ roster among players they’re willing to give up and make the salaries match.

Correction
Magic cannot use BAE and then sign and trade because contract would only be for two years. Best Barnes could get would be 120% of last years 1,600,000.

The summer isn't even over yet and we're already handing out division winners and rings?
If Miami becomes some sort of dynasty, then so be it. But let’s allow them to earn it first. I find it hard to believe that Larry Brown, Larry Drew, Flip Saunders, and Van Gundy are telling their teams to go and bust their butts to fight for “second place.”

That's what I was thinking.
He was part of the best starting lineup in the league, even if we had a little bit of a rocky start in January when it happened.
I could see Matt Barnes being abrasive
That abrasiveness was great to watch when it came to his playing. But maybe personality-wise, he didn’t quite mesh well with management, and they let him go because he was difficult to be around.
