Orlando Magic Free-Agency Rumors, Day One: Magic Interested in Amar'e Stoudemire, Steve Blake
The NBA free-agency period has begun, and with it, the rumors have begin running amok. Here are two big ones involving the Orlando Magic from Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski:
Several teams without salary-cap space, including Cleveland, Orlando and Houston are interested in making presentations to [Amar'e] Stoudemire. They hope to acquire him through sign-and-trades.
The Magic's best trading chip is Vince Carter's semi-expiring contract; any sign-and-trade for a major star would certainly include him, as well as Marcin Gortat, who told the Polish media earlier this week that the Magic told him they would be willing to deal him in such a trade.
Also from Wojnarowski...
The Celtics could then use their midlevel exception for a different player. Several sources believe that [Danny] Ainge’s target is Orlando’s J.J. Redick, who is a restricted free agent.
I'd say the chances of the Magic matching an offer sheet worth the mid-level exception are 100%. Anything more than that will give them pause.
Redick, incidentally, isn't in a hurry to secure his future. He is currently honeymooning and not in the United States. I'm sure Redick's agents are fielding calls on his behalf, however.
And Steve Kyler of HOOPSWORLD passes this along:
Sources close to the Orlando Magic peg Clippers' guard Steve Blake as the team's primary free agent acquisition. Sources say the Magic could offer a similar package to what was given to Brandon Bass last summer ($4 years roughly $16 million). Blake is expected to have several suitors this week and may make a a visit to Orlando early in the process.
I took a look at Blake's credentials earlier this week. He would be a solid fit as the Magic's backup point guard.
The current backup, Jason Williams may stay with the team for the bi-annual exception. If I'm the Magic, I'm not thrilled with paying a third-string point guard that sort of money, but Williams certainly had his moments last season, and it'd be unreasonable for him to play for the minimum salary once again.

Hmm
Amare would be nice I suppose. Ready to see what ACTUALLY happens.

I think we still got a few days before major peeps start making signings/trades in principle. I’m ready to see what happens too. I just hope the Magic are chasing top players who will FIT, else Id rather keep the chemistry growing with the current guys, make solid team support moves, and maintain that projectable Max cap space for CP3 or D-Will to potentially join Dwight in 2 seasons.

I'm gonna be away from any computer for the first 4 days of free agency =(
well, I hope I’m pleasantly surprised when I get back
like.. Amar’e surprised, not like Steve Blake surprised.
Doubt we get Amare
His lack of defense would be a concern although he would be that great additional 4 to help Dwight on the offensive side.
I still like the Blake requirement as a backup, but we still gotta look for a 4

what do you guys think about...
channing frye? long player who can spread the floor. did pretty well in phoenix. pretty decent rebounding, not sure of the defense though…
roger mason? shaun livingston? dont get to get a lot of data but if you guys can shed light on how they would fit. thanks!
Frye's no better than what we already have
Livingston can’t shoot the three point shot at all, so it’s hard to see him fitting our offense.
Roger Mason’s rubbish – bad passer, bad scorer. All he really does is shoot a decent three ball and play OK defense, and we’ve already got a guy in Redick who can do that, and do it a lot better than Mason.

Frye
I disagree with you about Frye , i think he would be an excellent addition however, how much of an upgrade would he be over Rino? no much. lets spend the money on miller or salmons
If I'm Orlando I DO NOT move Vince this summer.
His unguaranteed contract next summer will be much more valuable than it is right now. Plus you can’t find another SG with a PER around 17 with no cap room.

Bass/Gortat/TE for Boozer would be ideal.
I don’t care what people say about Lewis guarding threes, with a shot blocker like Dwight and a weakside rebounder like Booze, Orlando would be just fine defensively.

Just a reminder. Can't combine TPE with players. You don't trade a TPE, you fill it.
