I love the standing Buffalo logo. Don’t know how D-12 would fare as a PF

you gotta put penny at the point man !!!!!!

by bigmoo on Jun 18, 2010 6:49 PM EDT reply actions

My lineup would be:

Shaq
Dwight
Turkoglu
Tmac
Penny

I think that would probably be a pretty solid starting 5.

by MagicMark on Jun 18, 2010 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

NO way would I put Turk.

We need a defensive/gel player there. Not someone who demands the ball too much to be effective (especially given Penny’s presence).

No, no, no guys, you got it all wrong

C- Greg Kite
PF- Adonal Foyle
SF- Ryan Humphrey
SG- Derrick Dial
PG- Kiwane Garris

They’d threaten the 72-10 regular season wins record my friends.

No

because Adonal Foyle would be there

by Swami on Jun 20, 2010 1:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Foyle played 833 minutes with the Magic. Those five guys combined played 77 minutes.

I'm not so sure I'd sacrifice Defense for Offense like you,

I think bringing Shaq off the bench for scoring and sometimes having a twin towers thing going on is the route I’d go.

by fwedo on Jun 21, 2010 9:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Well I put that starting lineup based on the best players in their Orlando magic prime starting

Course I would mix and match with Dwight, Ben and Rony coming in for defensive purposes and Darell to harrass people

That looks like an unbalanced roster to me:

PG – Hardaway, Skiles, Nelson, Armstrong, Anderson
SG –
SF – McGrady, Turkoglu, Scott
PF – Grant, Seikaly, Outlaw
C – O-Neal, Howard, Wallace

I could definitely see moving Penny to SG, with his size. Assuming we’re trying to create the best possible team, rather than the one that would include the most fan favorites, I would consider dropping either Armstrong or Outlaw and picking up Mobley or Theus. This would give a revised lineup of:

PG – Hardaway
SG – Theus
SF – McGrady
PF – Grant
C – O’Neal

Bench:
Skiles
Nelson
Anderson
Mobley
Scott
Turkoglu
Seikaly
Howard
Wallace

Honor is no substitute for victory.

Sorry, that should have had Anderson at SG instead of PG. I hate Mondays.

You can put Penny, Nick or even T-Mac at SG at any time

Lotta diversity.
I guess I didnt see enough of Theus to truly judge if his best days were with Orlando

How is Nick Anderson not starting on every one of these?!?!?

PG: Penny
SG: Nick
SF: T-Mac
PF: Dwight
C: Shaq

Yes Dwight and Shaq can play together!!

Nick doesn't start on mine because of per-36 stats

Nick Anderson: 17.11 pts, 5.89 reb, 3.11 ast
Reggie Theus: 22.01 pts, 3.38 reb, 6.29 ast

Anderson’s a better sniper, Theus is a better driver.

Honor is no substitute for victory.

by The Dark on Jun 21, 2010 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't think about Theus

I was going for longevity and total contribution to the Magic. How long was Theus on the team? Is Jameer not a favorite of the die-hard fans?

by o.c.blazerfan on Jun 21, 2010 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

Theus was only on the team the inaugural season.

We drafted him in the expansion draft from Atlanta, and traded him to New Jersey after the first season for two second-round picks.

Personally, I love Jameer’s game, but I would put Penny in his prime above Jameer, and put Skiles close. Skiles would be like having a Jason Williams that shoots almost as well as Nelson. He didn’t have White Chocolate’s flash, but I think he was as effective a ball-handler/distributor as Williams while being a better shooter. To provide a comparison between the three:

Assists per 36 minutes:
Skiles 8.3
Williams 7.2
Nelson 6.1

3-point shooting:
Nelson .387
Skiles .379
Williams .328

eFG%:
Nelson .512
Skiles .485
Williams .479

Honor is no substitute for victory.

I was going for biggest contribution to the Magic, not necessarily the most talented.

So I wanted Penny at SG because no one else has given multiple years of solid production at that position. Same as PF – I know Howard is officially a Center, but the twin towers would be pretty awesome and he is quick enough to defend most PFs.

by o.c.blazerfan on Jun 22, 2010 6:21 PM EDT reply actions

I still remember before Dwight was drafted, a couple places were projecting him as a SF

There were doubts on him at each position – he wasn’t quite a good enough shooter or ballhandler for SF, but wasn’t physically developed enough to be a PF or C. His speed made some people think he’d do best as a slasher 3. Instead, he bulked up and became a physical/speed 5. I can’t imagine him developing the touch to become a 3, but that would have been amazing to see if he had.

Honor is no substitute for victory.

Easy

PG: Penny
SG: TMAC
SF: Rashard (WTF right? I think Rashard is an excellent SF)
PF: Dwight
C: Shaq

Dwight would need to start at PF. He isn’t a PF naturally, but his talent level is simply too good to be denied a spot on the roster. Of course the only guy any sane individual would never move for Dwight is Shaq, and that’s why he plays C. But this starting 5 gives you an absolutely excellent balance in all respects.

First of all, it is huge and has length all over the court. Secondly, the interior defense is solid, probably more solid than any real team i can remember. That’s Dwight’s main purpose. He is not an offensive option on this team. His role would be to play defense and rebound, not to mention use Shaq to your advantage and absolutely be a beast on the offensive boards. Next, the main reason Rashard is in there is because he stretches the floor, along with TMAC and Penny for that matter. With dwight and shaq, you need to make space, and Rashard helps tremendously in creating space of those 2.

All around this starting 5 would be an all time best or close to it.
