Orlando Magic Unveil New Logo

Courtesy of the Orlando Magic

In an announcement that would have come as a complete surprise had a certain OPP reader not tipped me off via email yesterday, the Orlando Magic have unveiled a new logo "with a stronger, cleaner, more timeless design to match the team’s championship ideals," according to a team release.

The logo, which circulated around the internet a month or so ago due to, as best as I can tell, a leak at a watch company, stacks the team's home and away uniform wordmarks atop its familiar trailing basketball design.

The logo is the third in team history.

Awesome

I really like last years uniforms, so I hope they don’t change those. However, like a lot of people, I think the black pinstripes are timeless and we should definitely bring those into a permanent rotation for, say, half our away games.

I can’t tell for sure, but it seems like a slightly lighter blue. Oh well, another meh from me, but any Magic news is still nice for me.

REC'd

Nothing interesting or new. Why do we need this change?

The A really should be a star!

agree, if your team is called Magic, you shouldn't have a "serious" font like the new one.

still like the recent one better and I miss the star too.

Nothing wrong with the new logo, but...

…I’ll always prefer the original Magic logo; I liked the previous logo better than this new one, also.

I think it lacks personality.

They kept the “magic ball” from the 2000 logo, and took the font styling from the current uniforms to replace the “Orlando Magic” of old. The way it is now, it lost all links to the original Magic logo (which I never liked a lot, too “horizontal”). I think my main gripe is that the current font works well on the uniforms, but is your typical contemporary sports logo font (just compare it to the Bobcats logo, same font, just that the Bobcat’s is uppercase and slightly sheared). Mark my words, this logo will change again before this decade is over.
