Hard headed Coach

Stan Van Gundy has got to be one of the most hard headed coaches in the league. It took him three loses and his back against the wall to put brandon bass in the game and get the goat (VC) out of the game and put JJ in, and when he did that we won 2 games. So if i was a sane minded person i would have gone with the game plan that won me 2 games not lost me 3, but noooo van gundy went back to good ole give the ball to the goat gameplan that lost us 3 games! And brandon bass played his first minutes with 2 to go in the third! frustrating much!?!? In this series when the magic have VC on the floor and not JJ we are -24 but when we have JJ in and not VC we are +22, so if you had half a brain you would put in JJ and leave what used to be vince carter on the end of the bench and kick yourself for not giving Hedo his damn money. Oh and hedo only wanted 10 mil a yr. instead we pay vagina carter 16.3 mil this yr, 17.3 mil next yr, then a team option 18 million american dollars in 2011/2012, puts things in perspective huh? I know hedo wants out of toronto but i dont know how we can afford him. oh and by the way say bye bye to JJ cause some team is gonna pay his ass this off season, and we cant pay him because we pay VC and Rashard a combined $37,0814,000 dollars next year when our WHOLE TEAMS combined salaries are $79,677,182, pretty close to HALF of our money is tied up in our two biggest pussies.

P.S. i work at the arena and i spoke with David Steele at halftime of game 5 and i asked him "why did it take SVG 3 loses to put brandon bass in?" and he replied with "He is one of the most hard headed men ive ever met in my life, thats all im gonna say"

excuse my language just a little upset

when bass played a good amount of minutes

we won and when he didnt we lost, what is so hard to understand? and when vince was in we were worse than when we had JJ in (+22 compared to -24) and who decides who plays? that would be our head coach buddy so what arent you getting here?

Bass being in the game was just a coincedence.

And he almost destroyed our entire lead in one of the games he was in due to mistakes on defense.

The reasons we won game 4 and 5 were that Jameer was successfully attacking the defense, and Rashard had somewhat decent games. Brandon Bass was not the reason we won the games.

by MagicMark on May 29, 2010 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Not to mention he almost destroyed that lead in a span of 58 seconds.

Last night, while a horrible night for any Magic fan, was a perfect night for level-headed Magic fans. Would Bass really have made a difference last night? Is his transition D so spectacular that we’ve been missing out? Would he have stepped up and guarded Nate and Rondo, because that’s what got us in the hole we couldn’t dig out of.

Meanwhile, if we’re going to go on small sample sizes (as seems to be the case here), what’s your excuse for JJ’s performance last night, InOtisITrust? I guess we should have just left him in so he could feel good about himself and all the paranoid fans could feel like his mystical ways would carry us back into an 8 point loss instead of 14.

I’m not saying JJ hasn’t played his ass off, but last night he faltered. And if the game was as simple as putting JJ and Bass in, we could have won that series on accident. I’m tired of all the people trying to find a singular scapegoat in a series that has provided a ton of issues to point fingers at.

You can blame SVG, you can blame Vince, you can think JJ is a universally gifted wunderkind, and that’s all fine. But don’t be surprised that people who see the bigger picture don’t take you seriously as you proclaim such things are gospel truth.

brandon bass

is a banger and he actually goes for rebounds, other than dwight who does that? no one, he also attacks the basket which no one else like to do (vagina carter) and when that happens it opens everything up! and what do we do best? shoot 3’s! with a stagnant offense you dont get open shots but when people drive it makes the defense collapse and then you can kick it to open players for OPEN shots and do what we DID best, im sorry your so blind to all of this, i have not missed a game in three years buddy, so just look at the stats and you might realize how simple minded you are being, if there is one thing you cant argue that would be FACTS

FACT

Brandon Bass is not going to pass out to a player on the perimeter as he drives the lane, triple pump fakes, and clangs a shot off the back left side of the rim. So instead of “opening things up,” we now have a contested, and inefficient, shot with 3 guys standing on the 3-point line wishing they could have participated.

They call me Curmudgeon McMiserly.

I'm a guy.

by Sir Lawrence J on May 29, 2010 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions   2 recs

No, he isn't

Bass is a bad rebounder, no better than Lewis (Anderson is the best rebounder at the PF position on the Magic.)

He rarely attacks the basket – most of his shots are midrange jumpers – and he’s the worst passer at the PF position on the Magic, meaning even if he did attack the basket (which he doesn’t) he’d have the least chance of kicking it to an open shooter out of all the available options at his position.

Bass is a very good mid-range shooter and he brings lots of energy (which get him offensive boards), and he rarely turns the ball over (but neither does Lewis). Otherwise, he’s a liability on help defense, his rotations are poor, he doesn’t board defensively and never has, he doesn’t have the ability to either defend rangy PFs or space the floor with his shooter (it is unnecessary to have a strong inside defensive PF when Dwight is so good at that).

So, in fact, you may have gone to all the games and well done for that, but you’re utterly wrong about Bass’ game and I would suggest that is because you haven’t looked at the statistics.

by eltharion_doa on May 30, 2010 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Easy now.

Emotions seems to still be running high around here. No need to take out frustration on one another around here.

Bass is not what I’d refer to as a player who frees up the shooters. Bass hardly ever passes the ball. (The lob to Howard in this series is a huge exception….Bass went weeks in the regular season with decent playing time and zero- yes, zero – assists. So, when Bass gets the ball, there is only one thing the defense has to pay attention to: Bass.

You do have a point with the VC vs. JJ minutes in game 6. I wondered that, too.

"I've had people say, 'I don't need to check the [player statistics]. I've seen it with my eyes.' Well, I would also say your eyes lie to you sometimes, and some of the guys you may really like and think are really doing things, when you get deeper into it, aren't or vice versa." ~Stan Van Gundy

you people are nuts calling for svg’s head. the lack we have no closer is the problem. second of all the guy’s record is awesome, dwight and jameer like him, and he took us to the finals last year. no one has an answer for who to BRING in (you dont hire within, i hate when teams do that shit). long story short…he’s staying.

SVG is an elite coach.

Blame the players.
I thought the biggest problem was not pushing Jameer to run the O til gm4. But this isn’t a reactionary sport, you’re supposed to impose your will and effort and make the other team react. In that regard, it makes sense to give VC his Possessions and post Dwight against Perks. I still see SVG as a top 3, 4 Coach in the league tho. I would never get rid of him, he still made adjustments, post Shard, use Jameer more, play Bass and twin towers so he is terrific judging the offense and he has amazing plays and out of timeout plays. AND he is a truly defensive, hard motivating coach. The Magic would be dumb to lose SVG.

Dude..In Otis I Trust..no disrespect, but calm down, dude.

As a long time Magic fan, i TOTALLY agree with you on your frustration with the cash we have tied up in Carter & Lewis, versus the output we have from the guys..Rashad never even reached 10 points in MULTIPLE games this series..but i strongly have to disagree and urge you to STOP your namecalling in regards to Vince Carter. It’s pretty darn ugly, and really takes away from the decent points i think you DO make as it relates to your frustrations. I think breaking up last year’s team was a HUGE mistake, and you can check posts ive made from months earlier to prove this…now the world cand see the results of breaking up that team… I’m pissed too, but cursing Vince or calling a couple of players who currently represent our team a couple of “p*ssies” reflects bad on us as fans, and bad on the Magic blogosphere as a whole..imagine the joy Boston Celtic fans are getting out of watching us verbally pepper eachother and degrade a team that in less than a year earlier had us on Cloud 9 in the NBA Finals. So in a word or three….CHECK YOURSELF, INOTIS I TRUST….

well its obvious changes need to be made. dwight, jameer, and stan are committed…the others i dont know. i dont expect as much from the role players though. guys like MP will produce if the main guys produce. you know, you cant expect MP, Bass, Redick, Anderson, et al to individually get us going. the vince experiment is only going to weigh us down next year. i like the guy, but he needs to go.

sensitive ladies?

I’ve been a fan of the magic since their inception, so when they blow a series like that its kinda frustrating. So when they blew it i decided to come on here and share my opinion just like everyone else, but when i make a point i like to add some funny names, comical stuff to blow off steam, and lighten the mood a little. I’m sorry if your a little too sensitive, but i’m not sorry for sharing my opinion on a BLOG. I’m a man and i stand by all my statements. I could not care less what boston fans think because after that game 5 wooping we put on them i went on their blog site and they had posts saying “Orlando, Dwight howard in particular, is out to hurt the celtics players” and “The NBA’s Credibility Problem” talking about how the refs fixed the game, i think its funny how the celtics immediately go to the throat of the NBA when the special treatment they have been getting for 3 yrs now goes the other way for one game. So i really dont care what those sheltered spoiled bostonians think. I can share my opinion just like everyone else on here hoss.

oh and check yourself? really? im sorry i didnt know you were a ‘hustla’ please dont come lookin for me Gangster

You can share your opinion

And when people think you’re being ignorant, insulting or discriminatory, they can call you on it.

If you want to exercise your right to free speech, you can’t put yourself in an ivory tower and expect to be immune from criticism as a result of that speech, or the way you express your opinions.
