Brandon Bass Off The Bench For Rashard Lewis
Is there any reason why we aren’t playing Brandon Bass more? He is capable of hitting a mid range shot to keep the defense honest and he can drive off the dribble from 10-15ft. Marcin has provided good defense but is not quicker enough to cover help defense off the dribble when Rondo penetrates.
Also, it seems Boston runs a 3/4 Pick & Roll late in 4th qtr when ever were making a run and Glen Davis seems to get easy layups on the opposite of the basket! I feel Bass is quick enough and strong to keep up with the defensive scheme to help out on Pierce and contest Davis lay-up if need be.
Marcin coming for Lewis hasn’t helped offensively one bit and I feel Bass will help us out. Plus there is a certain toughness I know that I will get with Bass. Boston right now is playing more tough and physical than Orlando. We may have more talent than Boston but we are losing because of the style of play. The finesse play with Boston is not gonna win the series.
Any thoughts?

We need to play Brandon
I know for a fact that he can give us 13 pts, and play good defense on KG.
Orlando Magic NBA Champions 2010
But KG hasn't been a problem for us this series
Rashard has actually done a decent job of holding KG to below his playoff averages. KG would probably be better off with 6’ 8’’ Bass guarding him. He would have an easier time hitting that turnaround jumper and Bass would get lost on those pick-and-pops, giving KG the easy open jumper.
I also don’t see him putting up 13 points, seeing as how the ball doesn’t move when it gets in his hands. He’s very indecisive and gets a lot of his points in iso situations. Being in the playoffs for the first time this season won’t help either. The only way he would be able to score is off of offensive rebounds. But seeing as how SVG emphasizes transition defense/giving up the offensive rebound (besides Dwight) and the fact that Bass is a below average rebounder, he will have a hard time scoring 5 points, much less 13.
FEAR THE MEER!
Bass actually was in the playoffs with the Mavs
and was averaging over 10 ppg playing about 23 minutes

Playing Bass for defense doesn't make any sense, really. His awareness has been terrible all year. Life would be easier for Big Baby.
I agree with Ben, he’d be cold and he’s had so little experience with the starters. He’d be making a ton of tiny mess ups that’d lead to lost points. If he plays more next yr he can get all that and be very useful, just couldn’t get the PT over Rashard and Ryan. I’d keep playing Gortat and Rashard.

I know that you are a MAGIC fan, but that stmt is ludicrous at best…No, KG hasn’t been a problem, but our defense has, Bass(with his BIG body) can play defense, and if nothing else, He has six fouls that can be used to frustrate the Celtics(ain’t nobody running up on this young man talking garbage, NO ONE) He and Rhino should get some clock, Anderson is GREAT at spreading the Defense, and is a pretty good “help defender”. SVG should use both of these players( and probably will have to) Let’s Roll MAGIC!!!!!!!!
I disagree Ben. Glen Davis doesn’t have any plays called for him. All of his plays come off of defensive lapses on the Magic end. Poor rotation. I don’t know how many times I have seen Lewis and Gortat a step late and Davis has a lay-up on the opposite side of the basket.
Since Davis scores off of plays where Orlando is late on rotation, I believe Bass can keep up with him. Also, how many times did Gortat kill our 24 sec shot clock when he caught the ball at the elbow of the ft line? Gortat isn’t comfortable with shooting from that part of the court. Gortat should relieve Howard and Bass should relieve Lewis.
I must not have made myself clear. Davis is beating the Magic's rotations, sure. Bass doesn't rotate, like, at all. Lewis and Gortat are far better team defenders than Bass.
Even with Lewis and Gortat at their worst, in terms of awareness, Orlando is still better off with them than Bass. He’s that terrible on D.
so let me get this straight Ben..................ur undecided about Bass???
lol

If you're talking about "defensive lapses", why would you want to play Bass?
He lapses on D all the time.
The Magic's total second-round margin of victory: 101 points.
The Hawks' highest second-round game score: 98 points.
Well if Bass rotation defense is worst than Lewis and Gortat combined, Orlando has a big problem. The rotation defense much improve. Glen Davis hasn’t even been fouled one time on his lay-up attempts.
I know Boston is a great defensive team but I didn’t figure they were this good. I feel this has to do more with toughness than talent. Orlando is being out worked and the team as a whole needs to play tougher defense especially near the paint if they will even this series up.
I hope for the best and a quick start is important from our PF position.
Anderson
Is who we need to see.. I wouldn’t mind seeing Bass a little, because that mid-range jumper is solid, but his D is terrible.

Couldn't hurt.
I know there’s been a reluctance to trust Anderson, but our biggest problem is the inability to consistently get open threes. Gortat certainly doesn’t help us on that count.

exactly
Our strength is our bench and weren’t using them..
RA has outplayed Shard a time or two..

Bass can't defend KG
He’s good in the paint but the Celtics will expose him on D. Ryan Anderson on the other hand is a decent defender and can stretch out the defense
Yeah
I could see him dragging him down the low block, same way he did Jamison.
At the same time you bring Bass in vs Big Baby, while KG is out.

Sometimes the unespected happens every now and then
It wont hurt anymore than the last 2 games did to take a different look to see what works on a given day. Lewis was torching everyone before Boston now hes averaging less than 6 ppg playing a lot of minutes. Allen came out blazing in game one then played amazingly even worse than Lewis in game 2. so that said its not a guarantee that Bass or Anderson or even Adonal Foyle (lol) wouldnt be able to contribute when their number is called.
Me Against The World And I'm Winning
I'm fine with the defense we're getting out of the 4
It is the offense that I’m worried about. As Ben pointed out in a post the other day, we need Rashard to get going on offense. If Rashard plays well, we win.
It's our defense of the wings that is a problem
Not our defense of the bigs.
And a far, far bigger problem is our offense and playing Bass isn’t going to help that – he’s not better on the drive than Lewis, he doesn’t have Lewis’ post game and he can’t hit the three. He’s also not as good a passer.
Lewis has played badly offensively and that’s on him, but we need to get him playing well, not sub him out for an inferior player.
right
Lewis hasn’t posted, Anderson is the better rebounder, and slasher.

I DON'T LIKE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO...................
Brandon Bass gave us solid minutes in the first half and he defended KG great. His energy was also a plus.
Any thoughts? Since most of yal iniitally disagreed with him getting playing time.
plus minus of -9 in 11 minutes
3 points 2 rebounds in those 11 minutes.
verdict is in, the answer is still no
SHOCKING
Solid minutes?
Dude, did you watch a different game? He got 2 boards in 9 minutes, was -9, was on the floor for the Celtics big run and was completely lost offensively, and completely lost on help defense.
He hustled, which is the least you’d expect, and fair enough, he hit a tough shot. He’s a better option at PF than Gortat, sure.
But he hurts the team.
