In today's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, you'll see the Boston Celtics visit the Orlando Magic in a battle of two teams playing their best ball of the season at exactly the right time. Boston's playing like the team that won the championship in 2008, only with an improved Rajon Rondo at the helm. Orlando? Rolled through the first 2 rounds with an 8-0 record, owns the best offense and the best defense so far in the postseason, and has phenomenal confidence. This series could well go the distance, given the talent involved. We'll see the start of that battle today.

…with an over/under of 189.
According to the power rating system used at sportsbook.com, it has the Magic at 14 point favorites, and one of the day’s best bets at covering the 7 point spread.
For the series, the Magic is a -260 favorite to win (wagering $260 to win $100 plus the original wager), while the Celtics are +210 underdogs (wagering $100 to win $210, plus the original wager).

Either they win, in which case I’m sad, but I won money, or they lose, in which case they still might cover, or they don’t, but I don’t care because the Magic won.
I quite like the Magic to win but the Celtics to keep it close. I just can’t see them going to sleep defensively like Atlanta did.

I dunno, all the games were close in the regular season, the Celtics are on an absolute charge, everything’s gone pretty much perfectly for the Magic these playoffs…maybe it’s just paranoia, but I sense a close one.

It's going to be real interesting to see how much Dwight has grown since last year's matchup against Boston
I remember growning every time he would shoot those fadeaway hook shots through the lane. I also wonder how Dwight is going to handle Rasheed guarding him. That is one guy on the Celtics I fear will start lighting it up.

Magic and Blackhawks are playing at the same time
…with the Blackhawks/San Jose game starting a half hour earlier.
I wish things like this wouldn’t happen, but my priority will be the Magic game, as I can tune in the Blackhawks during the long commercial breaks and during halftime also.

To be honest..
We are only down 13 points.. That really is nothing – considering we are shooting so poorly. If we get our act together, we can make that deficit up in about 5 minutes of game time. We need to start taking care of the ball, and nobody needs to try to be a hero. Lets just chip away.

I think Orlando needs to A) speed up their offense and get more "open" looks
and B) spread the floor better. They were far too sloppy with their ballhandling and that’s going to have to get better if the Magic are going to win in the 2nd half.

truly hasn’t been the Magic’s problem today cumulatively. Ray Allen is a great player and he makes clutch shots so give him props for that. Paul Pierce is magnificent as well.

Rust is fine when you play against a team that we own like the Hawks, but not against a tough celtics team.. we played like hell the first 3 quarters.

Give the C's credit
They played well enough to win the game. But Orlando shouldn’t hang their heads either. Much to look forward to. While a loss is never encouraging, losing by 20 and showing no emotion or fight is the worst thing that can happen.
Orlando had a lot of fight and effort tonight. They’ll get better moving on in the series. I’m not sure Orlando can play much worse, but I’m also not sure Boston can play much better.

Absolutely.
But Orlando has something going now. It’s up to Dwight and the other players to simply take advantage, and as SVG said at the start of the 4th, be more efficient. Dwight stunk up the joint offensively today, and had 13 points on 3-10 shooting and 7-12 from the line. The FT line isn’t a big deal, and Dwight missed shots he certainly can make.

They’ve only lost a handful of games. Boston got exposed a good deal in the 4th for their lack of offense. Orlando has some building blocks here. This series has only yet begun. Anyone expecting an Orlando sweep really didn’t know how good Boston was.

No rhythm. The 4th qtr is a good start. But it’s hardly a cure. You can’t expect one game to translate to the next in the playoffs. That’s the beauty of the playoffs and why it’s so tough to win a series.

Well there was one really good quarter.

…I think your 2nd comment is true. Part of that is Dwight simply not reacting well to what Perkins does to him. Perkins is in his head, and Dwight has to get past that. If he can’t, Orlando isn’t winning a title. Simple as that.

Dwight played the most minutes he has so far in the playoffs yet turned in one of his worst performances . . .

The Magic lost so many possesion getting the ball to Dwight
Only to see him turn it over or miss a shot.
Gortat doesn’t call for the ball nearly as much and the flow is different with him on the floor. Plus that Gortat doesn’t isolate in a 1-on-1 post up battle like Dwight does (Dwight allows the defense to collapse on him) but instead he just makes buckets in the flow of the game.
That’s different.
What's the percentages of teams that win the series
When they win the first game? Something sad like 80 percent. We better play better or our season won’t last much longer. We really played poorly for 2 quarters..

I thought we only played like we are capable of playing in the 4th.
That is probably due to a combination of the long layoff and the Celtics good defense. I felt it was “better” for us to lose game 1 playing like that than winning and thinking we can win the series playing sloppy ball like that.
IMO the 2 key adjustments for game 2:
1) Barnes should be given less minutes. It was obvious that he is not an effective defender against Ray Allen especially when he is playing with a bad back (even without the bad back I wasn’t too convinced of having him chase Allen around the screens). JJ has shown that he can at least bother Ray Allen and right now is probably our best bet.
2) Increase the tempo. Dwight needs to run the floor and Jameer needs to push the tempo. Celtics has struggled playing faster tempo plus it will take a way something from their formidable half-court defense.
I still believe we should keep feeding Dwight the ball in the post. At the very least this gets them into early penalty – it is obvious that they will employ the same strategy as the Bobcats. I know it probably cannot be done now but Dwight needs to learn to finesse his way to get around Perkins/Wallace/Davis and finish hard – he is doing it the other way around.
I know, but winning this one after we barely played in the first 3 quarters can play tricks on their mind.
This is no longer the Hawks were playing here. If there is a good time to realize that and adjust it’s better done early in the series.

Well I thought Lewis played, then got on the bench, then played again...
It’s not really the matter of Gortat playing and disrupting Lewis as it is Lewis plain and simple having a bad game. But it was “a” factor.
Yes Lewis had a bad game offensively
but his defense was OK. And Dwight had a bad night offensively, and Pietrus had a bad game offensively and Jameer had a bad first half offensively.
The Magic lost one game, making their playoff record 8-1. Boston lost to Cleveland at home. Game on

I thought Lewis played well defensively against Garnett.
It was his offense that was non-existent. SVG went with Gortat instead of Ryan Anderson which was probably a good choice.
That is good D.
KG did not look comfortable in that game. I say him and Lewis was a draw.
Our biggest concern was a hobbled Mat Barnes doing more harm than good when he was in there.
