Refs, You Suck

Sorry, It has to be said. Every playoffs, Dwight defends even more cautiously and yet gets called for even more fouls. In the playoffs, when wing players get more aggressive and physical with their driving, the refs call it looser on them, but SOMEHOW deem it necessary to call it stricter on big men like Dwight?!!?!

Dwight played only 28 minutes tonight..

against an opponent who RARELY posted/iso'ed their centers or any players up on Dwight. (Imagine if Shaq were a 'Cat and had a couple post ups on Dwight so refs could make up (for the most part) even more foul calls...)

Also, take these cold, hard facts into consideration..

Gerald Wallace averaged 11 points on 32% shooting in 3 games and 45.7 MPG against the Magic in the regular season. That's his 2nd lowest PPG and 3rd lowest FG% when compared against the rest of the 28 teams in the league. Only Boston (another team with good big men) forced Wallace to lower PPG and FG% than Orlando and Dwight..

While Dwight averaged 40 MPG in 4 games against the Bobcats in the regular season. Dwight averaged more MPG against only 2 more teams this year, two Western teams; New Orleans and Dallas.

So I can only say, in summation,

REF, YOU SUCK. (And that I hope the NBA consults with the Refs about this)

Could be worse...

you could’ve had the refs in the Celtics game that were so awful, their incompetence resulted in KG being out for game 2.

What about Deron Williams

Talk about acting.. In their first game he looked like he got shot by a elephant gun, limps off the court and into the locker room.. then comes out 5 minutes later as if nothing happened.

While I hate talking bout refs...

They sure sucked last night.

Stay classy.

Welcome to the Playoffs

We never get favorable calls in the Playoffs and last night was no exception. We can harp on it but the players just have to learn to win with the crap officiating. Remember we’re still the biggest threat to ruining a Cavs-Lakers Finals.

^This.

Orlando already ruined last years match-up, so I fear the NBA+referees will do all in their power to have their ratings dream that would be Lakers vs. LeBron.

The refs definitely had their moments last night

But I really don’t think you can extend that to Dwight. He had two fouls that were his fault being a bit too aggressive while posting up and getting tangled up with a player while running the court), and he needs to be smarter than that. Charlotte has openly said they are going to try and get in his head, and it worked.

His 5th foul was legit, as he initiated plenty of contact on Wallace’s drive.

The only foul on Dwight that I remember questioning was the first foul, where he very athletically denied an pass into the post. As many times as people go through Dwight to do the same thing and never get called, I thought that was the refs trying to send a little message, much like the ridiculous T called on Jackson.

I say this stuff because I don’t want Magic fans to become the kind of fans that blame the refs when they don’t get every call. Or in other terms, Lakers/Cavs fans.

Or Bobcats fans

They’re whining about the refs too.

To be honest, I think most fans just naturally have difficulty seeing past their myopia, it’s a natural part of feeling passion about something. Affects your judgement.

I can see how the Bobcat fans were mad about DH not getting his 6th

He fer sure fouled out, but there was no call. But, Wallace nearly ripped RA’s head off. They thought that Wallace should have gotten the ball and RA should have been called for a foul. Umm, are you kidding me?! Why would RA get a foul called on him when Wallace nearly popped his head off. They have their head in the clouds, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. They think that their team is deff going to beat the Magic and that their team is going to win it all. They really are supportive fans.

Yea but theres no way Dwight should be playing about 27 minutes a game. I’d literally stop seeing the games after awhile. Im happy the ‘Cats have supportive fans tho, and there’s always calls that should’ve gone both ways, its the refs fault, you will call that a foul, but not the same play later on? They need to be more consistent. And the Magic have very supportive fans too by the way :D

"I don’t want Magic fans to become the kind of fans that blame the refs when they don’t get every call."

Amen, brother. I would hate for us to be seen as those type of fans.

So an NBA game had a bunch of uneven calls. What else is new? Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to reffing NBA games.

And we wont, that's for sure.

However, we all are going to agree that there were some dirty calls.
I mean, DH IS an unbelievable force, but to compensate that by filling him with personals is absurd.
We are unable to sort that out, BUT
they are unable to prevent us playing in the Finals again with few bad calls.

We’ll be ready.

Stay classy.

I can agree that there were some bad calls

But I don’t think they were singling Dwight out or anything. I think he could gotten called for at least two more fouls, including that crazy athletic Gerald Wallace bucket near the end. As much as they might call some ticky tack fouls on Dwight, they let him get away with just as much. Not to mention that goaltend they counted as a block (on Diaw?).

SVG said they are singling him out on last presser (game 2).

However, you are right to a point, but still he does NOT get the treatment other superstars do.
I agree that we should not omplain, and Im not doing that. It’s so sad to see Magic players’ pressers being all about reffing….
We just found it unavoidable, I think.

Stay classy.

For sure

I cringed when they showed Barnes going off on the refs. I don’t like it that we have to play the “respect card.” But hey, whatever works, works, right? (I feel like that was too many commas for one sentence.)

Yea, I hate to complain. Its truly a poor thing to do, but there’s only one aspect of the refs that I care about, they could call 20 bad calls and I wouldnt complain or even really care very much at all, but as long as Dwight is in suspicious foul trouble, I will turn whiny and ticked off. I don’t watch the playoffs every year, just to see Dwight play 15 less minutes a game, and be out in the critical stretches and comeback stretches of the other teams. It seriously takes a huge load out of enjoying the game. I already made my fanpost about this, I wont do it at all anymore for any later series.

by derekk on Apr 20, 2010 8:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Sure, it is frustrating that the refs are not consistent with their calls

But when are they ever? At least their consistent about being inconsistent.

I’m not gonna act like I don’t get riled up over bad calls, because I definitely do. But what I don’t like even more is when fans claim that their team lost because of the reffing (something I used to do, not gonna lie). It discredits the winning team and they make themselves sound like babies. I just figure, if I hate hearing about it, I’m not gonna do it myself.

I’m over the bad officiating as a Magic fan. It won’t be an excuse for me…its just one of the aspects of the game that we have to learn to live with. You think Sunday was bad. Wait till we face LeBron.

Exactly

Right now, we are to Charlotte as the Cavs are to us. We know what it’s like to feel “cheated,” but now we know what it feels like to be accused of being “cheats.”

The problem is..

The refs called the game one way the first half then another way the second half. Its difficult for a player to adjust their playing style to the way the refs officiate in the middle of a game. Dwight was called for things in the 2nd half that he was getting away with in the first half. If he wasnt getting away with them in the first place – he would have played more minutes. What I do NOT like is that an offensive player can just charge into the middle of the lane and ram into whoever he likes and picks up defensive fouls because the defender was ‘moving’.

by i2ambler on Apr 21, 2010 8:29 AM EDT up reply actions

I forgot to write about the connection that Wallace’s poor reg. season is directly related to Dwight’s defense, but it was pretty obviously implied hehe.

by derekk on Apr 19, 2010 3:36 PM EDT reply actions

I voted already. I picked the last one, I know the 1st half wasn’t too great in terms of reff’ing for the ‘Cats I guess. I only care that Dwight is being called fairly in playoff standards of playing. I looked at the two teams’ FT attempts for this fanpost, but nothing out of the ordinary I think, Magic and ’Cats are two of the most FTA teams in the league and were relatively in range with that. This can be a slow, tough, FT affair of a series.
