NBA Playoffs Adopt-A-Team: Orlando Magic, Because They Make Vince Carter Likable - SB Nation
On the SBNation.com mothership, I make the case that fans of teams who are no longer in the playoffs should start rooting for the Orlando Magic.

I get hating on Carter if you're a Raptors fan.
But otherwise Vince seems very likable. Plus, most people I talk to that watch the NBA and aren’t Magic fans love Dwight. And everybody loves Stan because he’s such a character and his press conferences are more entertaining than the games half the time. And JJ is a cool guy unless you’re just riding on Duke hate from years ago. In other words, I think the Orlando Magic are one of the easiest teams in the league to like and root for.

Raptor fans shouldn't even hate on Carter.

I haven't noticed before but I don't normally see their pre-game routine.
Gortat should be in the 2011 Dunk Contest. Us white guys need some representation in that event and I think the Polish Hammer can turn a lot of heads.
I really think NBA pundits and writers fuel 99% of the anti-Vince Carter sentiment.
That being said, this is a very likable team.

Nice piece, Ben a.k.a. Mike Prada? Why didn’t you get credit for the article?

(So lame, but I'll roll with it!)
I don't see why the "city needs a title" argument from Cleveland will work
Unless you’re from Cleveland, or have relatives in that city.
Maybe if it was like, Shaq’s thumb is lonely, it doesn’t have a ring on it. Yeah. Or last year Lebron bought a trophy case, and he cries every night thinking how he so badly wants a ring.
Oh, I can see wanting the Cavs to win.
If the Magic weren’t in the equation, I would kind of want the Cavs to win. The fact is, LeBron earned his title last year, but his teammates earned nothing.
Now, granted, the whole thing is rooted in my annoyance at the kind of people who use team success as a barometer for individual players’ ability. On some level, I’m thinking “if the Cavaliers won the title, I wouldn’t have to hear idiot Lakers fans harping on that fact… as though the Magic’s conference finals victory last year was somehow LeBron’s fault.” I tend to sympathize with the guy who deserves to succeed but gets let down by the people he works with.
Of course, on a much more immediate level, I’m thinking, “if the Magic won the title, the Magic won the title.” And I’m pretty convinced that, even if LeBron does have a good series, his supporting cast is still too weak to beat Orlando. But we’ll see.
The guy who really has a tough case to argue is the Lakers guy. When do you think was the last time that any non-Lakers fan rooted for the Lakers under any circumstances? I’m thinking… maybe Magic Johnson era? Those years when the Pistons were winning — a lot of people hated those Pistons.
