T-Mobile Player of the Week: Jameer Nelson
This post is sponsored by T-Mobile.
The Orlando Magic continued their winning ways last week, going 3-0 with wins over the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Center Dwight Howard, who's exempt from winning T-Mobile Player of the Week Awards on this site due to his consistent dominance, led the way, pacing the team in scoring (21.3), rebounding (12.0), blocks (3.3), and field-goal percentage (70.3), but he had help from his teammates. And in my opinion, Jameer Nelson provided the most.

Nelson really took command of the offense this week, setting the table for others while still creating his own looks, but also not forcing the issue, which is right in line with his philosophy. As a result, he shot a blistering 57.8% True Shooting and posted a stellar 10.1 Pure Point Rating, by dint of his 19 assists to just 4 turnovers in 84 minutes. Additionally, his eyebrow-raising 4 boards per game helped him start fast breaks himself, which is a bit of a bonus.
Orlando will rely on Nelson to turn in such performances in the playoffs, where he's delivered before. And if he submits some of the nights like he had last week this postseason, the Magic will be in excellent shape.

Meer definitely can show up in the playoffs.
We were really missing him last year and I’m excited to see him in action this year.
The intensity has to go up, up! Not down...UP! -Stan Van Gundy
SO sick of hearing about how Hedo is gone
Then I have to stop them and say, you know Jameer Nelson is a better PG than Rafer Alston. The look on their faces are like, “Oh shit I forgot he didn’t play in Orlando’s destruction of the Cavs last year.”
Super Excited.
"Morning yall up early w/ the babies watchn Dora. Seems Lamar can't keep my name out his mouth maby I need 2 put my sons shitty diaper n it"~Matt Barnes
That, plus the Magic are upgraded over last year's finals team in a lot of other ways
I think Vince is better than Hedo and will really turn it on in the playoffs.
Barnes does more than Courtney Lee and is probably just better overall.
The bench is improved… JJ is far more productive than last year, Pietrus and Gortat are just as valuable, Anderson/Bass are a definite upgrade over Battie at the backup PF, and no offense to AJ, but Williams is a superb backup point guard.
If they all stay healthy (knock on wood), the Magic are so loaded it’s hard to see how they don’t make the Finals again. And if they do, I think they’ve got a great chance to win because the best team in the NBA is probably either Orlando or Cleveland. LA’s clearly not as good as they were last year, mostly because they’ve lost depth.
Basically, I can’t wait till the playoffs start!
