10-11 Black Magic Alternate Uniform?

This is a question for BQR or Eddy. I just wanted to know if any of you two (or anyone else here) can shed some light on the rumors of a possible black alternate uniform for next season. I read on some other Magic blog that the reason why Orlando is sporting the old-school blacks pinstripes as a pre-lude to next season's uni? Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Teams in the NBA have to wear their new jersey designs for two years before introducing an alternate.

That’s by rule.

I have heard rumors that the Magic will introduce a black alternate next year but of course, they’re just rumors. From a marketing standpoint, it makes too much sense. Personally, I’d be surprised if there weren’t alternate unis next year. I also heard rumors, when Orlando rolled out its new jersey design, that the team wanted to have the black jersey as its default away uniform but the NBA wouldn’t allow it (notice no team has a black jersey as its default away uniform, though it’s okay as an alternate) so hence the blue. If I’m not mistaken, it had something to do with the league’s image. I know it doesn’t answer your question but I hope it helps.

but the Heat and Spurs have it (black) as default away unis?

or maybe because the rule came in after they already had the unis?

Sorry E.

But the Spurs is the only team to have a black away jersey, just to correct you. I like the idea for a black alt. jersey, it really brings out our tradition of the Hardwood classics. A new uniform, a new arena, and a brand new championship to go with it.

Love the black alti

We definitely need to be rocking that a lot next season.

The original away uniform was the black pinstriped one.

The blue alt was introduced in ’94 or ’95. Something like that.

The T-Mac/Hill era uniform never had a black alt (I don’t know how that would’ve worked, since that uniform had those subliminal stars with the different thread quality). The, what I like to call, “College-look” uniform never went with a black alt either.

if they do go with a black alt

i hope they kinda go off of what chicago’s alt had w/ the colored pin stripes …

i’d been toying w/ some drawings just thinking of it myself… black, blue pinstripes, the logo style lettering (instead of the futuristic font), and silver where they’ve got those black side panels now…

just what i came up with though

There have been lots of rumors concerning the black uniforms

It just makes sense, given all the quotes by the players pulling for black when the new unis came out. Add to that the odd “Back in Black” section of the official Magic store, and it all seems to point to black unis next year.

As for how they look, there have been rumors that the actual jersey will be in the same style as the current, in terms of cut (apparently Dwight was influential in the fit of the current jerseys, makes the team look more muscular – and goes well with his adidas undershirt) and curved pinstripes, but with the old school font for the numbers. I am curious what color the side panels would be, and whether they would say Magic or Orlando.

That's an interesting design idea. Meshing the past with the present.

I have heard the same about the black alternate uniform. I actually had a jpeg of a Magic uniform I received from someone in the industry that was making its rounds. I’ll try and find the pic, but it looks like our blue uniforms but instead of being blue its black with blue writing/white pinstripes, etc. Pretty sharp looking and is the natural next step for an alternate.
