How are things looking for the playoffs?

So, sometimes I get bored and travel around to different SB Nation NBA blogs and see if they're saying anything about the Magic. Plus, I always think it's interesting to be an outsider looking in on their celebration or facepalms of their preferred teams. So, anyway back to my original point, I was on another teams website and they were discussing possible match-ups for their team. Most of the fans seem to be in consensus that the Cavs will be coming out of the East. So this got me to thinking...

Star-divide

Am I as a fan being delusional about our teams chance of coming out of the East? I personally think that we have a good chance. I mean, I know that we are going to have a fight on our hands with the Cavs, but I think that the Magic are fully capable of making it to the finals. I'm kind of a new fan to the whole NBA thing, so I don't really know how people acted last year towards the Magic. Were they more or less doubtful of the Magic and their ability of being a championship caliber team? I know the Magic are just focusing on the regular season right now, but I just wanted everyone's opinions about this. Be gentle on me if I'm asking a silly question, I'm just curious about what everyone else is thinking on the subject.

It seems like people have always doubted the Magic

And I’ll take it, because the team seems to feed off of the lack of respect. People look at records and they assume the CAVs will dominate, but history, and individual matchups can tell a different story. I personally hope the Magic embarrass the Cavs so much the Shaq decides to hang it up this year. :)

Cavs are front runners

People always back the favourites, because nobody wants to look like an idiot when the favourite wins.

Right now I’m paranoid about running into the Bobcats in the first round. They scare the crap out of me.

I know

But they’re just the sort of incredibly tough, hard as nails defensive team who will stop us scoring, frustrate us, take us out of our game – and they only need to get hot or lucky a few times to knock us out. Plus their team has changed considerably since we started that run.

They’re by far the hardest out we could conceivably face in the first round, assuming the Bucks don’t collapse. The Raptors are just soft and Miami’s a one man team.

I'm not worried about the Cats.

I hope they get the 8th seed tho and give the cavs a run for their money. It would also be pretty awesome if they bounced them in the first round. I think everyone would be backing us if that happened.

Was thinking the same about Cavs v. Cats.

Especially after their win vs. OKC tonight.

I don't think the Bobcats could beat us in a seven game series, but I don't want to play them anyway

They remind me in some ways of the “heart and hustle” Magic. Not a huge amount of talent, but they just don’t stop attacking. As weird as it sounds, I could see a five game series with them being more tiring than seven games with just about anyone else.

I don't think the Bobcats could beat us

I see maybe a 5 or 6 game series with them, but they’d certainly make us work more than other teams. We can shut the Bobcats down with our defense. They’re less likely to have the same effect on ours over several games.

The guy could average 35+ points a game in that series.

I agree

If we do face the Bobcats they’ll give us trouble but they’re not playoff tested so we should beat them. Hopefully we will make it back to the ECF as long as the Hawks can keep the third seed and don’t decide they want to try and beat us.

I'd like to see a challenge

Personally I would like to see a few challenges for the Magic in the first two rounds. Charlotte and Boston would be ideal. Two potentially tough series that will keep them playing playoff basketball. Much the same as last year and far unlike the Cavs who coasted to the ECF after a short series with Detroit and way too much rest after sweeping hawks…..

I just try to take things one day at a time

…and not focus too much about possible playoff matchups until I know for sure who they’ll be playing, because there’s so many different possibilities.

As long as the Magic can continue to play solid basketball these last 14 games, I’m really not worried who they’ll face in the first round or even beyond.

A possible Cavs/ Magic matchup in the Eastern Conference Finals is still 2 months away, so no use worrying about that until the time comes… lots of basketball yet to be played.

the Heat worry me more actually

S-Jack and Wallace can be stopped.. and we need to figure out why their PG’s keep going off everytime they play against us, but if Wade is on, he inevitably makes everyone play better by virtue of open shots

by RL Magic on Mar 17, 2010 10:41 PM EDT reply actions

Wade can get his

But the Heat don’t play good enough defense to stop us from outscoring them more often than not, Wade or no. I’d say they might get two in a series against us – one on Wade’s back, another on a cold night of shooting from us. Otherwise, our D and generally solid offense will outscore them.

Charlotte play good D, which keeps games close, which means they don’t need to get very hot shooting, or heat up for long, to steal wins.

We are looking good for a return to the finals... and a Championship

Hollinger’s system has us with the highest probability for winning the finals this year while Kubatko has us 2nd behind the Cavs.

the most exciting playoff scenario would be,

1. cavs vs miami

lebron vs wade

2. magic vs raptors

vc vs former team and turk vs former team

3. hawks vs bobcats.

a real close matchup. atlanta has been better but the bobcats are pretty close to them and i can see them upsetting the hawks.

4. celtics vs bucks

that would be another hard nosed matchup

it could easily be the cavs vs the bucks but i still pick the celtics, and the same with the other maychup i woldnt be surprised to see the magic vs the bobcats.

and if the celts stay at the four seed as they are now,( and by the way they have one of the toughest schedule remaining) dont count the celtics out. i wouldnt be surprised if they won or lost. they are still oplayoff tested and battled, and they are champions. Garnett might not be the same, but the emergence of rondo and perkins kind of evens it out.

the bets case scenario for the magic would be the face the raps in the first round, the hawks or bobcats in the secound round and then the celtics in the ECF. \

But i want the lakers in the finals. thats why the loss to the cats hurts. they were 2 games back of the lakers and now are three for home court advantage if both teams face off in the finals.

i think the magic can beat the cavs, but no doubt they are the favorites. the magic beat them last time, and had a good shgowing in cleveland last time. they were up 9 late in the thriud but didnt finish well.

my only concern sometimes with the magic, is that in close games, nelson has a tendency to not pass the ball and try to do it all by himself, like he did against the losses to the cats, mavs and the cavs. those games could of been different if option no. 1 in crunch time vc would of got the ball, or otions no. 2 and 3 howard and lewis got it. i know nelson is a shoot first pg, but he has to know that he needs to pass the ball and sacrfiice a little. no matter what i rather have for lewis and carter have the ball instead of him in crunch time. and with howard improving in his free throws since the allstar break,

  • excpet the last couple of game ) i rather have him get the touch then nelson. i hope stan micromanages and calls plays at the end of close games, because if it was up to nelson he would jack em u[. not that nelson has been playing bad. he’s been p[retty good lately and the chemisrty between him and vc is picking up. ( i thought the main chemistry issue was between vc and nelson when nelson came back from injury). other than that i think the magic are as good as anuyone. lets just hope that 4 game losing streak where they lost to all these bad teams, isnt gonna cost them in the playoffs beacuae of home court advantage.

Well, if I remember correctly, people were saying the same things last year.

The Cavs rolled through the regular season, only to be humbled by a certain team.

i shall be rooting for the magic once again these playoffs. after watching the 2nd game vs the lakers this season, i have to say i want a finals rematch. this match up is intense. after seeing a physical game couple with animosity, this should be a fun albeit intense match up.

by chaucer on Mar 23, 2010 6:19 PM EDT reply actions

Oh yea. I think a Magic-Lakers finals would be way more exciting than a Cavs-Lakers finals.

The intensity between Matt Barnes and Kobe is crazy. There would be a lot of technicals, but guaranteed to be a match to remember. Sure the Cavs have the whole Kobe-LeBron thing, but it still wouldn’t be that interesting.
