Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Looking forward to a potential matchup with the Celtics (if they get that far)

Remember when Rasheed Wallace was telling everyone who'd listen before the season that the Celtics could challenge the bulls record 72 win season (Rasheed's prediction)?

They still have a decent record but are either barely beating bad teams lately, or losing to them. Anyone see the Memphis game last night? Down 29 at one point, at home, to the Grizzlies. They got booed. I went on the Celtics blog and the poll of the day is 'Can the Celts still win the championship?'. The winning choice was 'no we're done'. I don't think Nate Robinson can help.

Anyway this makes me happy we didn't get Rasheed, and that we're getting better as the season goes on. Lots to be thankful for. Also if the Magic's recent play continues, I think Stan should be up COTY again for getting Vince and the whole team to buy into his game plans and play together.

Stan won't get enough pub for COTY, although he deserves consideration.

Everyone wrote off this team either before or in the middle of the season, now we’re 2 games behind LA for the 2nd best record in the league.

I was very vocal about my opinion that we shouldn’t sign Rasheed after he just quit on the Pistons in the playoffs last year. That was the last kind of player I wanted on this team. Vince, Bass, Barnes, Anderson, and J-Will have been much better for this team as newcomers than Wallace would’ve been. Could he have been more? Maybe. But if you’re quitting on a team in your mid 30s as opposed to your early 20s, there’s a good chance you’ll do something like show up overweight, out of shape, and just start chucking 3’s whenever you’re in the game even though you can be a very good low-post player.

I hate Varejao.

No the award will probably got to Mike Brown again, with his innovative "give the ball to LeBron and hope for the best" offense.

I agree about Wallace, he could have been one of the best post players ever, but he wasted his talent through laziness and obstinance.

After the game, the Suns announcers asked Lopez what he was going to do to celebrate and he said, "I'm going to kill Bart Simpson."

Mike Brown won't win the CotY this year.

Scott Brooks is the prohibitive favorite, in my opinion. Or at least, he should be.

Him or Lionel Hollins. But if watching the NBA has taught me anything, it's that the person who SHOULD win isn't always the person who wins.

Indeed.

Hollins is deserving, too.

Stan Van Gundy won't win CotY, for a number of reasons but I won't explain them.

Yeah

I agree with your pick for Scott Brooks. I forgot about that for a moment. I guess Stan should have won last year, but Brooks is doing a pretty fantastic job.

I don't think he should.

But I think he should get more consideration than he currently is. Scott Brooks gets my vote for #1 just because of the huge leap they took this year (much quicker than expected) and because that leap was because of defense.

IMO-Orlando
1-5- Best team in East
1-6-2nd Best team, behind LA Lakers
1-10-Best in the league

SVG-deserves CTOY consideration, but our record was better last year. I bet he is working harder this year, though.

Doing well

The Magic are staying healthy. That is important.. SVG is limiting minutes to all the starters. Great move. Get the whole team ready for the playoffs. Quite possible for the Magic to win all the games left. Wouldn’t that be special?

Would be nice, even though the odds of it happening are low.

Even if not all the rest of their games

I hope they make it 10 in a row finally. Assuming they don’t screw it up against weaker teams – they’ll be playing San Antonio for their first 10-streak ever. Should be a fun game. After that it looks like they could easily reel off a few more and at least get to 14 or so until they face Denver.

Yeah, he and Hollins should be in the discussion.

I’d still give it to Brooks, though.
