Thank God Vince had a good game, now we can trade him!

How lucky are the Magic that Vince Carter exploded for 48 on national television?  He had what was surely his one and only good game of the season, right before the trade deadline!  Now is our chance to dump him off on some unsuspecting GM and get one of those great SG's that could be had in exchange for the Magic's resident parasite.

Look at the great possibilities:

John Salmons, Chicago Bulls

Josh Howard, Dallas Mavericks

Corey Maggette, Golden State Warriors

Sasha Vujacic, Los Angeles Lakers

Tracy McGrady, The Grave

Why can't the Magic get a sharpshooter like Sasha, a slasher like Maggette, or an all-around talent like Josh Howard?  The reason was "Vince Carter is literally too bad to trade."  But after team execs watched the Hornets game, they can easily be duped into taking on the massive hole Vince Carter leaves in the starting five.  Otis Smith is a shrewd man and will clearly jump at the opportunity.  Consider this a heads up, there is now a 100% chance Vince will be sent packing his bricks and headed out of Orlando (until Summer, when he comes home and casts his voo-doo on the Magic's offseason.)

My question is, how happy are you about this?

MY VOTE GOES TO SASHA.

I need more metrosexuals on the team. JJ isn’t enough anymore for me since he became a basketball player this year.

It can work!

Vince Carter to the LA Lakers for Sasha Vujacic, Luke Walton, and Adam Morrison – which is even better, because it puts Adam and JJ back together! It’ll be like Jake and Elwood.

I was thinking

Sarcasm for Salmons, but then Maggette (underrated) and Howard (a year of being one of the best sixth men in the league) made me reconsider.

But then he mentioned the Machine, and it all fell into place.

Maggs

is playing pretty well this year. He’d be helpful coming off our bench as a spark plug, but he’s overpaid for that particular role. Funny having any Orlando fan saying Maggs contract is ridiculous when we have Shard.

No doubt

But there are some people who’d trade VC for a bag of marbles and tickets to a WNBA game, so by comparison, Maggette or Howard look amazing – at least those two can play.

Come on that’s a little harsh, Vince can play…he just older than those guys and has been slower to shake the rust off when he’s been hurt this year. I’ve been saying all along that Magic fans should at least wait till the end of the season to evaluate Vince’s true value to the team and skill as a player.

Dude, you take your Vince love to another level…accept the fact that the way he was playing, he deserved all the crap he was getting from fans. You seriously think its normal that it took him till the week of the all star break to have his first meaningful points game? Personally, I don’t care…if he turns into some scoring machine come playoff time, I could care less if he averaged 2 pts a game during the regular season. I’m not going to come down on a guy for being in a slump. I will evaluate the full season’s body of work. But I do understand those fans that have been trashing him all season long. From an outsider’s standpoint and someone that isn’t infatuated with guy, its been frustrating as a fan to watch him play until last night. You gotta stop taking the VC bashing so personally, its not good for your health.

First meaningful points game?

He just had two 20-point games before last night. He had 12 20+ point games before January, including 34 against Utah and 27 to even keep us close to Boston in the Christmas Day game.

hey slick, you’re just coming after me from all angles on OPP today…lol. i was trying to make a point about the whole meaningful points game cause vc can do no wrong for ben_g over here…actually i think his first meaningful game came against the bobcats in november. even though he only scored 15 in that game…he hit a crucial 3 pt to put the magic in control of the game.

How about “VC has sucked”? Because I don’t think he’s categorically a bad player. I don’t think he’s irredeemable. But the fact remains, he has sucked in January. He has sucked in December. And he has sucked in November.

His October was pretty good. I’ll give you those two games.

I mean, all that’s in the past. That means it doesn’t necessarily have to continue… it also means it can’t be changed. This is indisputably what we have seen from Vince: inaccurate shooting, an inability to get to the basket, and an unwillingness to pass the ball. Now, for the last few games, we’ve been seeing something different. Hey, that’s cool. But you can’t get angry if I go with the majority of the evidence, at least until/unless that evidence no longer constitutes a majority.

Hey, just trying to keep it real, man!

People gotta keep things in perspective. Vince had a terrible, terrible January. But it wasn’t like he was developing into a cancer. We didn’t have any of our players coming out and talking about how there was something wrong with the chemistry in the locker room (a la Rondo last week).

The Magic were nowhere near as bad as that January looked. The frustrating thing with this team is I think they have the highest ceiling but also the lowest basement of all the contenders. Let’s hope they’re closer to the former by the time the playoffs hit.

Everyone goes through slumps, not everyone gets more blame than the Jews in 1930's Germany.

It’s fine to be upset with someone who’s underperforming, but the way people have attacked Vince Carter (and now Jameer Nelson to an extent) is unbecoming of a good fan.

I feel like people always come down on Meer regardless…I’ve never understood that. Last night at the game, this guy next me turns to me and says (while VC is going on a tear in the 4th): “you see how good the Magic are when Jameer doesn’t play?” Wtf is that?? Why is everyone always trashing that guy?? I dont get it…

Some Magic fans just want the next Penny or something.

No clue. He’s better than Derek Fisher from last year and the Lakers won a title, and he’s better than Rondo was two years ago when the Celtics won a title. Injuries happen, unfortunately they’ve happened to Jameer more than one would like.

by slickw143 on Feb 9, 2010 1:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

even before the injuries, people just didn’t like him…is it because of his frame? the only time he was spared any criticism was between late november ‘08 to mid february ’09. i’ve always been a supporter of the guy, so i may be biased a little…but i just don’t get the natural despise he gets from magic fans.

I think him being short has something to do with it.

Again, part of that looking for the next Penny thing involves a tall PG. I don’t think people understand how rare of a talent Penny really was before injuries derailed his career.

Penny had the potential to be a transcendent player.

Your starting PG

Not being in crunch time does say something. How many above avg PG’s( for 34 year old) seat the bench in crunch time?

-Meer play has been spotty this season, his PER is down. Stats down across the board
-He is injury prone

Meer is solid and fits our system, but the knocks on him are some what accurate.

But when people continue to criticize Nelson just for the sake of criticizing, it gets old.

Like I said about Carter, we get it, he’s struggling. No need to incessantly bash him.

By that reasoning...

…should we stop mentioning it when Dwight has a monster dunk? I mean, we already know he does that. He dunks the ball a lot. We get it.

So far this season, Vince going one-on-one and attempting a layup over three guys (or whatever) has been a common sight. When it happens again, when it becomes a pattern, I say it’s worth mentioning. We can’t just mention the good stuff — that’s fair to nobody.

A game like last night's was bound to happen.

A player doesn’t go from very good to bust in less than a year for no apparent reason.

I always had faith that Vince Carter’s slump was just that, a slump.

You’ll never see me type anything bad against any current or former Magic player (well, maybe not Shaq). I prefer to save the hatin’ for other teams’ superstars.

I wish more people had that attitude...

It’s one thing to get on someone’s ass because they aren’t playing hard, they’re making mistakes repeatedly and not correcting them, or they have a poor attitude that affects the team… but when a guy is playing hard and just missing shots, or when he isn’t himself because of nagging injuries (Vince and Jameer,) it’s not really fair to attack them. That kind of negativity doesn’t make anything better.

im well aware that he changed his number the moment Wade passed him in jersey sales and gave us some cock excuse about it being his freshman year number. total shit…so i don’t recognize it regardless of whether Lil’ Wayne wants to buy that jersey. it is what it is…he will always be 8…he picked the number 8 because he idolized D’Antoni when he was growing up in Italy and that’s the number D’Antoni wore in the Italian league. 24 is some bs predicated on being one step higher than MJ…dont believe me about that one…how about kb’s Team USA number 10…that’s one number higher than MJ’s 9 on Team USA. kind of sick huh? hence, kb8.
