LeBron James has made the "Decision" to move where he believed would give him the best chance to win a championship in collaboration with Wade and Bosh. If this had happened in New York Stock Exchange, the collaborators/conspirators would have been charged with insider trading, but in a league which favors individual players supported by CBA, it is fine on the paper. But what would it do to the so-called brand LeBron?
We have to look at a variety of - often conflicting - factors, but the two very obvious ones are the "desire to win a championship" versus " Loyalty". While the desire to win a championship is a strong drive to push for ultimate accomplishment in NBA, it is nevertheless a desire. Loyalty, in comparison, is a virtue. Could we compare a desire - no matter how strong - with a virtue which stands high on what defines human decency?
That is why brand LeBron has suffered considerable set-backs, and the more the subject is brought up into focus, the more his reputation erodes. Also, that is why Nike's commercial was a futile attempt to control the damage however necessary for Nike to protect its humongous investment in James. Only time will tell what would happen to brand LeBron, and maybe only time would heal the self-inflicted wounds.
