The Current Backup Center Situation

Stay connected for news and updates

Hey guys,

The main thing our team has lost with the trade is a back-up center. I, for one, have been thinking that a Gortat trade was a matter of 'when' not 'if' this season. So now it's come and gone - there's a dilemma on who to put as backup C.

Otis has said on record he's not looking to sign someone ASAP, which begs the question - what's the best solution in that position?

Brandon Bassright now he's the incumbent, he's sliding into the 5 with the second unit, but his rebounding doesn't seem to reflect increased minutes.

Malik Allen - the veteran who's currently injured. When he comes back, I have reservations whether he should return as the backup and turn the rotation into 9-man. Despite his height advantage on Bass, I haven't really been sold on his performances. He's jacking up too many jump shots (which should always be zero), he can't run the court nor can he jump. I doubt he has the ability to be a defensive presence, which is what the backup C needs to be in my opinion.

Ryan Anderson - so he's a PF, but at 6'10 240lbs I think with his rebounding ability he can play some C, plus on the offensive end it could stretch the opposing center which could make it easier for JJ, J-Rich or Arenas in the 2nd unit.

Anyway, I'd like to get the opinion of fellow OPPers and especially those advanced stats guys.
