Hang Time Podcast (Episode 37) | NBA.com | Hang Time Blog
I joined Sekou Smith and Lang Whitaker on the latest installment of NBA.com's Hang Time Podcast to discuss the Orlando Magic's flurry of trade activity over the weekend. I start at about the 28:30 mark, but you owe it to yourself to listen to all the segments. Michael Lee, Michael Cunningham, and Alan Hahn, who cover the Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks, and New York Knicks, respectively, also joined Sekou and Lang.

Nice contribution to the podcast!
You sounded a bit nervous, a little less confident in your opinions, but overall a solid contribution. I was a bit surprised at the level of pessimism I heard from you, which I don’t think comes through in your writing as much as it sounded in this podcast.
Great work! Glad your getting out there, as the site definately deserves the attention.

Fair enough. Tentative describes it well.
Since I don’t have any gauge, tentative can sometimes pass for nervous. Also, any tentativeness doesn’t really come through in your writing.
Still, I’m curious…you express a lot of doubt about the defense. Comparing the defense of before/after the trade is valid, but I think it’s also worth looking at the 08/09 run, which consisted of a team that many said would be poor defensively.
Like I stated in another thread:
In 2008/2009, people said Hedo was too lazy to play defense. They said Lewis was too soft to cover other PFs. Courtney Lee was a rookie, and the Magic’s starting PG in the playoffs was Rafer Alston.
How is: Alston, Lee, Hedo, Lewis, Howard
More to work with than: Nelson, Richardson, Hedo, Bass, Howard
Just from a "building blocks" perspective (skillsets, size, experience), the current lineup has to be considered better than the group that made it to the finals.

I completely agree
Defense in the NBA has WAY more to do with system than individual matchups. No one can stop a great player one on one – even great defenders. However, great TEAM defenses can stop other TEAMS.
It’s not a surprise that defensive coaches (like SVG) always seem to have great defensive teams regardless of the personnel on the roster and poor defensive coaches don’t have good defensive teams no matter who is in the lineup.
I hope the Magic got some name tags in one of these trades
lol yeah, that was pretty good
“Naturally sort of, I dunno, tentative.”

I enjoyed the humor and thought it was a good "down to earth" analisis.
Don't mind my spelling. I'm a Typo Master.
No, I wasn't objecting to your word choice. I was just pointing out I, uh, did analysis (verbs!) without using stats. Which is kinda weird for me.
oh, my bad, you took the right choice given how they try to sound a little "cool"
I thought it was good and they seemed to respect your opinion a lot.

Good Job Evan
What do you think of the trades now in light of Vince’s possible surgery?
