The Magic

has no one to back up Bass and most important Howard. And they gave up to much to the suns. They have to find a big fast.

god i hate these trades

Dwyer’s analysis

My “Fire Otis Smith” fanpost will be up in the next few days once I’ve had a chance to get really, really angry.

get over yourself guys.....

you havent seen one game yet and already your calling for smiths head…..i for one, am excited to see jrich and and agent9 fill up the bucket…..and how nice will it be to see turks 30 foot alley oops to dwight again?……..the best defense is a great offense in any sport……what we hope is that we make other teams tire from covering our wings………also, if you remember…. when turk was here, the advanced statistics showed that he was a slightly better than adequate defender…….and, i dont think we are giving jrich enough credit……he has been on two teams that are not exactly known as defensive juggernauts afterall… he’s athletic enough to stay in front of his man, for sure….and arenas will be fine against first and second team point guards…..if anything they will certainly be a more exciting team to watch…..

hey….vc and shard have been two of my favorites for years…but really…..lets face it…….you cant seriously be sad to see them go with turk and jrich replacing them……..just watch…….nevermind the fact that it opens the door for bass and anderson to get more time…..anderson will prove to be a real asset off the bench and now that bass is starting, his confidence is going to shoot thru the roof…..and remember, he is just now entering his prime……again just watch

not to mention…..i wouldnt put it past otis smith to be finished making moves…..stay tuned

Just one mans opinion...

"We will have 4 new linebackers via FA and the draft" - 2010

Name

Three NBA title winners from the past 30 years who had a great offense and a crap defense.

In the NBA, the best defenses win the titles. Some of the best defenses have great offenses too, but you almost never win a title with D.

Arenas can’t guard point guards at all. Richardson may be athletic but he absolutely phones it in defensively. Turk was a decent wing defender when he could take the secondary scoring option because he was playing alongside Lee and Pietrus. Do you really think Turk and Richardson have any chance of stopping James and Wade? Or Allen and Pierce?

That should be

“almost never win a title without D”.

no.........

but i would much rather have players that can make them work on offense as opposed to a couple of aging jump shooters who’s game intensity changes with the wind…..

we dont have a “crap” defensive team….we have the best defensive player in the league….and a great team defensive philosophy…..

you dont need lock-down defenders to have a great defense…..do i think we can beat the lakers, the heat, or the celtics in a seven game series….this year….probably not

but being the fourth best team in the league isnt the worst thing in the world either…..my point is…..we are a better team now…..without shard and carter…..as much as i dislike saying that……..its true……

no one can “stop” james or wade……allen and pierce??….meh…….. but our wing rotation has a better chance of slowing them down by making them work now….than we did before…..it would be ludicrous to try and find “lock-down” defenders to stop two of the best players in the league…..

again……are we even in title talk right now………really???……..we’re a better team now…..done

*sigh*

We do have aging jump shooters now. Richardson and Turk are the wrong side of 30 and Arenas might only be 28 but he’s got the knees of a 45 year old NFL running back. All of them are streaky jump shooters; none of them are consistent scorers. We’ve changed absolutely nothing of the offensive identity of this team, apart from Hedo’s playmaking.

The Celtics don’t have lockdown defenders – they have guys who are prepared to do the hard things required to stop opposition players. None of Turk, Arenas or Richardson have ever demonstrated that desire. Will they magically morph into solid team defenders? Why would they? They’ve made careers and truckloads of money out of hogging the ball and shooting a lot and playing zero defense.

Maybe we weren’t a title contender before, but I don’t think we’re one now either. I don’t think you make a huge trade in the NBA to marginally improve your wing scoring and seriously decrease your wing defense.

The goal is a title. Right now we’re third best in the conference and going backwards. That’s not good enough, and that’s Otis’ fault.
