In last night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats, with Rashard Lewis' first three-pointer made in the 1st quarter, he became the 11th player in NBA history to reach the career milestone of 1,500 three-pointers made. Granted that the three-point shot has only been around in the NBA since the 1979-1980 season, it is still impressive that Rashard is in such exclusive territory with the likes of Reggie Miller, Ray Allen and Dale Ellis.
Not only has he reached the above milestone, he is going to quickly move up the ladder into possibly the top 5 three-point shooters of all-time territory, possibly by the end of this season. He has a few active players ahead of him, so it's uncertain where he will finish by the end of the season, however he should most likely (barring injury *knockonwood* ) climb all the way to at least 7th. Here is the list of players ahead of Rashard on the all-time list (Name - # of makes):
- Reggie Miller - 2560
- Ray Allen - 2366
- Dale Ellis - 1719
- Peja Stojakovic - 1661
- Jason Kidd - 1566
- Glen Rice - 1559
- Eddie Jones - 1546
- Tim Hardaway - 1542
- Nick Van Exel - 1528
- Chauncey Billups - 1509
- Rashard Lewis - 1503
Based on his per game averages for his career, his time in a Magic uniform, and this season, he should finish somewhere between 1571-1605 makes by the end of the season, barring any unforseen setbacks. That would put him past all of the retired players ahead of him with the exception of Miller and Ellis and based on what Kidd and Billups do through the end of the season, he could end as high as fifth, though it's likely he'll finish the season sixth. Congrats to Ice-O and keeping tickling the twine with those silky smoove treys!
