Did we lose anything?

Sure, we lost Hedo, Courtney, and Rafer Alston, but did we actually lose any part of our game? We lost some three point shooters, but we added Anderson, Barnes, Carter, and Williams, so we added a 3 shooter to every position but center. Hedo's ability to play point forward should be replaceable, as Barnes fits this description. Inside game definitely improved, as did our depth. I think Bass improves our defense significantly, though backcourt d may have slipped. The biggest advantage for this years team, I believe, is the ability to play every style of game. . . whatever works best against any particular opponent. We can drive more and play inside more, but without sacrificing our outside game.

What do you all think? Do we have any weaknesses that we didn't last year? Will this year be as great as it looks on paper?

Vince Carter can play point forward, too.

I dont think he will have to though,

except for injury or a broken down play.
SVG will use his players going towards their strenths.

as far as improving or not,
Hedo OUT Bass/Barnes IN
Lee OUT Vince IN
Alston OUT J.Williams IN
young 3pt shooting PF Anderson IN
much coveted center Gortat IN
Upgrades all the way except for Alston and we got a servicable 3rd PG

THIS TEAM IS SICK

Thats me chilling with Nick Anderson

Well, he will because Carter will assume some of Turkoglu's responsibilities in the 2/5 pick & roll.

yeah i guess

but you dont see a more conventional approach being used? One that lets VC isolate for a jumper or take his man off the dribble, more of a 1/2 dribble penetrate? or a 5/2 inside out game with VC slashing in hard, or exploiting an open shot(his or a teammates)?
Maybe I see dif. possibilities that arent as good as what Turkoglu used to do.

No. Orlando's offense is predicated on the pick & roll, not isolation plays.

Bringing in Vince Carter won’t change that. If the Magic desperately need a bucket, then sure, VC could iso it up against his defender but I don’t expect it to occur often.

The possibilities aren’t different. Carter can do what Turkoglu did, but better.

Vince's passing and court vision are underrated.

In fact, unlike some primary scorers, he LOVES to make the assist. In fact, sometimes it’s been used against him (too soft).

Another thing that will benefit the Magic is that he knows how to defer to other stars. Although obviously the best player on the Nets, he willingly let Harris run the show.

Finally, he is absolutely excellent in the pick and roll. He knows when to pass, and where to put that ball to let the big man, whether a jump shooter or a slasher/dunker, score. (See Brook Lopez, Yi Jianlian, Nenad Krstic, Mikki Moore).

Actually, I hope we use the 2/5 pick & roll. . .

But not nearly as frequently. We have the players to use for any type of play. I think that using one play as much as we used that last year would be a misuse of this team’s resources. We should keep the other team guessing. We now have incredible penetration in out backcourt, we have unstoppable big men, and we have not lost that three point shot. Keep mixing it up, and no one team can defend against us.

Orlando is going to continue to do what it does best, run the PnR & the 1 in, 4 out offense.

Just an idea...

I’ve been running a motion play on 2K9 that’s called “Pick & Roll Forwards” which have the to SF set a screen on the weakside low block (pick) for the SG, and the PF setting a back screen on the opposite block (pick) which springs the SG on the strong side wide open for an 18ft jumper. But it also causes the SG to be in position to play a quick 2-man game w/the Center on what becomes the weakside due to the PF rotating (roll) around to the other corner. That play has Barnes/Lewis/VC/Dwight written all over it. I think it’s a Motion 3 play. SVG is an innovative coach, I’m sure he has something like this in the plan given the strengths of VC
