Is Stephen Jackson the key to the Magic getting CJ Watson?

With each new article about Stephen Jackson wanting out of Golden State, the thought keeps creeping into my head that this may be Otis Smith's ticket to finally getting Watson out of there too.  We know the Warrior organization has balked at the Magic's attempts for a sign-and-trade, but if they decide to ship S-Jax out of town, maybe Orlando is the third wheel to help make the numbers work?  All Otis will ask in return is CJ Watson.

I'm no expert at NBA trading rules, but normally the third wheel is under the salary cap (ala Grizzlies) but Orlando does have the TPE at hand.  That's the question though, is it possible to use the TPE to help crunch salary numbers for the two other teams (Golden State and Team X)?

If not, there's also the possibility of Orlando being the third wheel by offering the AJ + 1 mil package to Team X.  And there's probably a few other trade scenarios out there that could work too.  Keep working those phones, Otis!

Forget about C.J. Watson..............

I am sick and tired of C.J.Watson , he is not Chris Paul or Derrick Rose; he is just a below average point guard. Why waste an article writing about C.J Watson?
This article does not make sense at all……

Is that really necessary?

Please don't put words in my mouth

I never claimed he was Chris Paul or Derrick Rose. In fact, I wouldn’t even put Rose in the same breath with Paul right now.

It is obvious that the Magic and Otis Smith believe Watson will help the franchise. Whether he is just a below average point guard is not the point. Can he come to our team and help win a championship is what matters. Can we win the title without him? Most certainly. But right now, we have two mid-thirties PGs backing up Jameer. No disrespect towards AJ or J-Dub, but I would rather have some younger, fresher legs backing up Nelson.

Again, this all conjecture and a long shot at that. We’re lucky that our team’s “problem” is trying to trade for 3rd, at best, 2nd-string PG. A lot of other team’s would love to have that problem.

We wouldn't be getting SJax or his contract-

“Team X” would be getting SJax. The Magic would only be getting involved to help facillitate the trade between Golden State and “Team X.” Whether we use the TPE (if able) or package AJ and cash to “Team X”… either case assumes that “Team X” is sending a sizable package of players to Golden State to compensate for the loss of SJax and CJ.

Ah, I see. We're the 3rd team

Do you have a realistic idea for a 2nd team and players to send to GSW for SJax and CJ that would require the Magic to get involved or at least would benefit from having the Magic involved?

Three-team deals are always tricky to pull off.

Yah for real...

You should try it on NBA 2K9…It’ll drive you to drink, and that WITHOUT the TPE and other exceptions coming into play!!

I don't think it's going to be very easy for Golden State to move Jackson.

If he wants to go to NY or Texas, the only team I can see making a deal would be Dallas. San Antonio has no use for his lack of defense, and they already have his role filled by Richard Jefferson and Manu. Houston has little need for Jackson as they’ve just filled their wing requirement with an overly hyped former Magic SF. There’s no way NY wants his contract.

Dallas would have the opportunity to trade one headcase 2 guard for another, although I’ve heard talk they might try to move Jason Terry, which would be dissapointing. I don’t want to see Terry playing SF for the Warriors.

Giving Jackson that extension last year was one of the dumbest basketball moves I can remember

If they hadn’t extended him, he’d be a $7.65M expiring deal this year. HUGE, especially since he can still actually play (this isn’t a Raef LaFrentz situation). But instead, the Warriors—or whoever’s silly enough to trade for him—will be paying him eight figures in 2013, when he’ll turn 35. STEPHEN JACKSON.

That front office is in shambles

And has been ever since Mullin was pushed aside. It’s more or less been a front for Nelly to ship his least favorite players out of town. Hard to see why any free agent not on their last legs would want to walk into that situation.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

Mullin was part of the problem.

Yes, that's true

But at least you could say he was attempting to improve the team while handing out awful contracts to people. The front office noticeably degenerated more after Mullin was pushed aside, as it effectively became a front for Nelly.

I see what you're saying.

The disfuctionality of the franchise does begin and end with Nelly.
