Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reports the Orlando Magic have signed shooting guard Morris Almond and small forward Linton Johnson III to training-camp contracts.
Almond, 24, has appeared in 34 NBA games over the last 2 seasons with the Utah Jazz. Where he's really made his mark is in the D-League, in which he's averaged 25.1 points on 46.4% shooting (36.7% on three-pointers). He also has one of the best nicknames in modern NBA history: "Mo Nuts."
Johnson, 29, has appeared in 151 games over the last 6 seasons for Chicago (twice), San Antonio, New Jersey, New Orleans, Phoenix, Toronto, and Charlotte. He owns per-game averages of 3.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 14.0 minutes.
Given that the Magic are well over the luxury-tax threshold, and that they already have the league-minimum 13 players on guaranteed deals, neither Johnson nor Almond figures to stand much of a chance to make the opening-night roster. But they'll certainly have their opportunities.
