Around SBN: Troubled Yankees Join Troubled Red Sox In Last Place

The San Antonio Spurs have emerged as the leader in the courtship of free agent forward Antonio McDyess, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

San Antonio is one of three teams offering the full mid-level exception over two years, sources said. No deal is imminent, but it’s believed McDyess has offers from the Orlando Magic and possibly the Cleveland Cavaliers.

by matching the mavs offer

for gortat, does that mean that we can’t trade him for one year after he signs with us?

Nah' mean, nah'm sayin

No, the Magic wouldn't have to wait that long.

If memory serves me correct.

so

could we fill out our roster after matching gortats offer, continue to let him show what he can do for the first part of the season and then trade him to a team that can play him a lot and in return round out a playoff roster with the pieces that we need?

Nah' mean, nah'm sayin

Gortat would have to approve of the trade, if I'm interpreting Ben correctly.

It's one year from the date Orlando matches

Here’s a link if you really want to read more. Otherwise, as Ben said, Gortat does have to approve.

Did the Magic end up extending a qualifying offer to Gortat?

I think yes they did

They had no choice really. No reason not to because otherwise he’s restricted.

I do caution that you don’t want people to get the idea that the Magic can S&T Gortat if they do match. The Magic definitely can’t do that.

I don't know, but I have a hard time believing that McDyess will sign for less than the MLE.

Am I really reading this correctly?

McDyess being offered the full MLE. That’s what…5.5-6 mil a year? That seems like a bit of a stretch to me. And by a bit of a stretch, I mean a huge one.

Anderson

Starting look like a real player..

How much is Sessions asking for?

Drew Gooden and Matt Barnes- Should be our two targets, considering what we can afford.

Gotta say I agree with Wmillion

I think Gooden is an excellent target for the Magic. He can play the 4 & 5 in many cases. Orlando desperately needs a player like that. And, Gooden is younger.

Maybe. He'd be a headache on defense and I don't know if SVG wants to deal with that.

No, but you can minimize the imperfections depending on who you're signing.

Gooden may be younger, but hopefully everyone here remembers what happens when the ball goes into him on the post...

…the ball never comes back out. Not the type of player we need and traded for a reason.

no most Orlando fans had to ask who he was when he signed.

that move was flushy cause he flushed money down the toilet.

completely guessing CLE and SA threw the whole MLE. And the last one might be ORL but they need to do it for 3 yrs to beat the contract length, and let him kno the obvious fact he’s getting a ring.

by derekk on Jul 7, 2009 9:16 PM EDT reply actions

Magic need to pay the man his MLE, even if its felt as overpaying to them and others, its too good of a fit. Think overpaying Lewis would’ve led to a Finals appearance? This would be what puts it over the hump completely. Can bang and play PF/C well still, and rebound with the best of the league still, doesnt need to play heavy minutes until matchups demand it like LA, BOS and keeping into rhythmn. PLEASE SIGN DICE FOR MLE MAGIC!!!!!!!!
