The Boston Celtics' summer-league squad will look to continue its winning ways after routing the Utah Jazz, 87-56, on Monday, while the Orlando Magic will try to bounce back from a convincing loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. No, it's not exactly a 2009 Eastern Conference Semifinals rematch, but there are a few things to watch for in this afternoon's game, the first on the schedule at RDV SportsPlex.

For one, the Celtics have some positional battles at guard (Lester Hudson and Gabe Pruitt) and on the wings (J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker). Boston can't afford to carry any dead weight, with a payroll currently in excess of $80 million with more roster spots to fill. At the same time, the advanced age of its rotation means GM Danny Ainge needs to keep an eye out for young talent with which to infuse the team when the veterans begin to peter out.

Orlando is still trying to figure out what it has, apart from Ryan Anderson, who looked like a legit rotation player in scoring 21 points against the Thunder yesterday. Guys who could round out the big-league squad's bench--like Jeremy Pargo, Richard Hendrix, and Darian Townes--are worth another look; meanwhile, Milovan Rakovic and Stevan Milosevic, the team's European invitees, have yet to take the floor due to a paperwork conflict that has yet to be resolved. Maybe they'll see the court today, along with the other players who did not participate yesterday: Courtney Fells, Levance Fields, C.J. Giles, and Kasib Powell.

Eddy and I will take in the action live from RDV. Expect more of the same type of coverage we brought you yesterday.

Anderson is not a joke. At all.

He can not only shoot but he is quick to dribble too. Something I’ve wanted Shard to get into more (we all have). I’m excited for his season.

These summer league games are very nostalgiac

Seeing names like Russell Robinson, Nick Fazekas, Coby Karl, etc. As someone who is also a big college basketball fan, its nice to see some of these once big names pop up every now and again.

Fazekas should probably have a job somewhere.

He was pretty decent in his rookie season with the Clippers… 10 mpg, 4 points, 3.4 boards. Presumably not much of a defender, but still. That’s at worst 12th man-level talent right there.

Yeah, and we broke your damn shot clock too.

Why is J-Rich not higlighted in gold?

And where the hell is Mike F’n Wilkes? He’d be a guaranteed Oscar Robertson stat-line.

Robert Swift?

Last I knew he was on OKC, did they release him or is he a FA invited to Boston’s camp?

his contract finally expired

He’s a FA, and he’ll likely not make the team

This is completely unrelated to basketball

but the second to last sentence struck me as interesting. Do you and Eddy meet in person often in regards to this blog? I was just always under the assumption that even though you guys run this thing together, that each sort of operated independently.

These are the first instances where Ben and I have interacted in person.

Because I live in Chicago, we didn’t have face-to-face meetings until now.
