Hedo Turkoglu's Market Shake-Up

Hedo Turkoglu going to the Raptors leaves the Blazers as practically the last big cap spender (a few other big cap spenders are rumored to be conserving for another summer) and the Raptors heavily thin at the bench. This means the FA market still has some quality players, but the money left over is small from the teams, and the Raptors MIGHT entertain Sign and Trade ideas with Orlando. After all this is Raptors last big chance to keep Bosh long term and getting Turk is a big plus, but if they devastate their bench, the big plus is just a small plus. Raptors need to renounce about 3+ players to make this work. It makes sense to S/T with Orlando so that Toronto is not outright signing Turk and thus not needing to renounce players. What they trade varies from a big Trade Exception to players like Parker or even Marion (good fit?). If renounced , these players could be picked up by MLE parts and Toronto's previous interests are more open as well like Linas Kleiza supposedy. The S/T is better tho for both teams, Raptors get depth still and Orlando gets a TE or a player or two with no spent MLE yet. Should these two teams do a S/T? Anyone on the Raptors of interest? Any other FA's should be pursued, or be pursued in a 3 way with Orlando, Toronto, ..... ?

I really hope a sign-and-trade doesn't go down ..

.. there is no one on Toronto I want to see in an Orlando uniform, other than Bosh (but that’s not realistic).

Not realistic, at all.

Plus Otis already stated he won’t do a sign-and-trade.

Yea I read that too.

I think its because if Toronto can hold off signing TUrk, they ccan trade their players first

Magic received the TPE tho like was thought to be a basic option for the Magic, so Im happy.

It never made sense not to do this. These TPEs are valueable and last another summer I think. Magic will likely use very little of it or stash it for mid season or next summer but still.

Yes, Toronto is indeed terrible but

I would like to see Carlos Delfino on the Magic. Instant offense from the bench and can play the 2 and 3 much like Pietrus/Carter.

3 way trade idea

I still dont get why the Magic wont do a S/T for Toronto, and atleast get a TPE or picks or a player they like. There are some interesting 3 way ideas to be had too. Dallas is heavily interested in marion, so I came up with one 3 way deal.

Magic S/T Gortat at 5.8mil to Dallas, Turkoglu at 11mil to Toronto.
Dallas sends Jerry Stackhouse at 7.2mil, S/T Brandon Bass at 5mil to Orlando.
Toronto S/T Marion at 7-9mil to Dallas.

Dallas receives Shawn Marion and Marcin Gortat, losing Stackhouse who doesn’t play much anymore.
Toronto receives Hedo Turkoglu and no one else. A sticking point in Dall-Tor trade talks is that Toronto wants no incoming players, so this solves it. Toronto’s favorite point is not to have to renounce any of thier players now.
Magic receive Brandon Bass, Jerry Stackhouse (likely to be bought out and Magic instantly add 5.2 salary cap)

The numbers make sense and match I think for Toronto and Dallas. Not so much for Orlando tho, as Toronto may have to add a bigger TPE in place of Dallas’ Stackhouse or on top of it. If that’s no longer possible in this 3 way Trade, then Magic must pick 1 or 2 (most likely just 1 is enough for the math to match enough) players from Toronto or Dallas for facilitating the trade. My favorite options include receiving JJ Barea from Dallas, and Anthony Parker or Carlos Delfino from Toronto.

Otis won't execute a sign-and-trade because it'd be too complicated to execute.

Toronto-Magic Trade Idea

Highly unlikely. I bet Toronto loves thier new kid. But lets see,

Magic S/T Hedo Turkoglu at 11mil to Toronto, and 2 future 1st round picks.
Raptors sends a TPE and DeMar DeRozan.

Raptors get Turkoglu and do not need to renounce any players, send away DeRozan’s garantueed contract for more cap. Future 1st round picks are great trade chips and make Raptors/BC heavy drafters, and Raptors may feel this is the best option if Orlando keeps playing hard ball on any S/T’s for Toronto.
Magic have a large TPE along with the MLE, and fill the Courtney Lee void with DeMar DeRozan. Lose future picks but DeRozan could be worth it.

I like DeRozan

I’d be great if we could somehow snag him away from Toronto

That ain't happening.

The Raptors just drafted him ..
