Pistons reach deals with [Ben] Gordon, and [Charlie] Villanueva
[ed. note: Pistons get a bit better. Not great news for the Magic, who never seem to beat them, but Gordon and Villanueva won't put Detroit over the top. - BQR]
The Magic never beat the Pistons and it seems to be that way for a while as they look to sign two more offensive players. Ben Gordon banks big time with a deal the Bulls are not likely to match.

i like the ben gordon pick up alot, not so sure on Charlie V just because he’s kind of without a natural postion, but nice pick up. Atleast he wont go to Cleveland, now its rumored to be Artest lol
Really?
I think BG in Detroit is all wrong, unless they trade Rip and I’m not sure what Dumars is thinking giving him $11mil. Looks like an all offensive team to me.
Rip may be on his way out .. given his age. Problem is, who trades for him?
Charlie V. is a solid signing. He can step in, play the 4, etc.

I have no idea, the Pistons seem loyal to Rip,
so while him being traded makes sense I’m not sure if he will be, no teams look interested. Everyday Dumars seems to think more and more that Stuckey is the future of their franchise.
I like Stuckey tho, he seems to be their PG of future, and BG is like Rip in alot of ways including good shooter and no defense. Its assumed they’ll trade Rip I think, so the extension and leverage is kinda weak now.
Yeah, BG and Rip are way to alike to be on the same team.
Have any ideas as to where Rip might go? I don’t think Stuckey is a future all-star point guard or someone you build a team around, at least not now, he’s still young.
I can't find any sensible suitors for Rip.
.. he needs to be moved, though. It makes no sense investing $10+ million on Ben Gordon, if the intention isn’t to start him. He has to start, or someone has to sit.

Definitely.
.. Detroit will be intriguing to track, but Orlando has other teams to worry about .. like Boston (possibly getting Wallace) and Cleveland (possibly getting Ariza).

Boozer for Rip. Utah and Detroit greatly improve. Pistons see what Booz is made of, so they resign him OR just let him walk for huge cap space and a run at a superstar or great player again.
They might let him walk because,
I don’t think Rip has that great of a trade value and most teams seem to be preparing for the 2010 Free Agent class, which is really starting to annoy me.
I think you’re right, but Rip is still a great player with alot of skills, I think he’s being a little underrated.
We’re alrdy talking about 2010 FA class lol… Im alrdy annoyed with it. I would lmao if all the superstars resigned to their respective teams haha.
Rip is more good than great.

rip is above average at best
these days, and has what, 3 years and 34 mil left on his deal?
no one is gonna want that.

scratching my head..
Not sure why you bring in BG if you have Rip.. You need a center, maybe even a PG. I like Charlie V.

.. apparently Ben Gordon is coming off the bench.

And he seems more than happy.
Can't blame him. He got paid.

True, but he talked about joining a "winning team."
Chicago had a better record, while Detroit had a losing record. Maybe he means for next season but I don’t see much changing there, I was watching ESPN News and saw that they too were saying Rip probably won’t get traded.
Yeah, Joe D. intends to play a three-guard lineup.

It will be a winning team next season
But not a title winning team.
This is an odd move by the Pistons.

i mean
is this what ANY pistons fan dreamed of when dealing billups for iverson’s expiring contract?
a shooting guard that chucks shots up from anywhere and plays no defense. 11 mil per for a sixth man?
and cv, the poorest man’s rasheed?
what a waste of 95 million

*shrugs*
The CV signing wasn’t bad, per se, but I’m still befuddled by BG’s contract.

Detroit still has a ways to go
The Pistons make a slight improvement with these moves but they are essentially the Atlanta Hawks now. A bunch of talented guards and wingmen with absolutely no presence down low.
And I agree w/mhetrick. Gordon is incredibly overrated. Yeah he’ll win you some games by going off and dropping 30. But he’ll lose you just as many be being ice cold and still chucking up 20-25 shots. He’s essentially a poor man’s Gilbert Arenas.
And I HATE Gilbert Arenas.
It's not that Gordon and CV aren't decent players
But the Pistons junked their roster and a full season for those two? I mean, really?
Someone’s going to have to coach the hell out of the squad for them to be much more than a second round exit.
