The Magic have expressed interest in signing free agent Brandon Bass, who is seen as a young, rising power forward.
Bass' agent, Tony Dutt, said Wednesday he did speak with the Magic.
"Yes, I did speak to (Magic General Manager) Otis Smith and they did show interest in Brandon," Dutt said.

Perhaps the Magic might have an edge over other suitors for Bass.
They took care of another Dutt client two summers ago, signing Rashard Lewis to a six-year, $118-million contract.

Just so long as we don't
throw $30 million a year at him, like his other client.
How does he fit in?
Ryan Anderson is perfect as a backup 4 and Bass is too short to be the backup 5.
He would either start at the 4 or backup the at 4.

Start at the 4...
but what about your insistence in NOBODY but Rashard playing the 4 next year?
…just saying, things change, regardless of what SVG says AND quickly.

That's my preference.
If that doesn’t happen, then I trust in SVG’s ability to adjust.

Really? You'd rather have Bass over 'Sheed? I know you're a big Sheed fan.
Or are you saying that’s your preference if Bass is brought on board?
I’d still like to go with ’Sheed as our prized off-season acquisition not named Vinsanity.

Like .. I rather have 'Sheed but if he can't sign, then I'm fine with Bass.
If Brandon is on board, I’d still prefer to see Rashard Lewis starting at the 4 but in case that doesn’t happen for whatever reason, I’m fine with it. I know SVG will adjust, accordingly.
I want ‘Sheed, first and foremost. But that may not happen .. we’ll see.

Anderson and Bass can both play the 5.
Or they have in the past, anyway. Bass actually spent most of his time at center for Dallas last season.
Yeah, even though he's undersized, Brandon makes up for it with his strength.

I guess I don't know too much about these guys
They both seemed to fit the perfect 4 mold, especially Bass.
Both are excellent fits for the team.
.. I really think everyone would like Brandon.

do you think
that bass would play back up center for us? with bass it seems like our rotation is less clear and defined, which is actually something van gundy is great at utilizing during games
Nah' mean, nah'm sayin
He's under contract next year.
Doubt Dallas trades him.

Not sure. Boston seems to be in the running now, as KG has gotten in his ear about playing there. And Danny Ainge gave him the Gortat treatment last night, showing up at midnight.
I picture KG showing his 'walking' demo to Sheed, on how to come to Boston.

Am I the only one who think the two personalities of KG/'Sheed can't coexist?
It’s like pairing TO with Randy Moss, talent aside, just taking into consideration the clash of their personalities.

Would be good theatre, no?
.. though it’d be a bad combination for Orlando. Boston is the last place I want to see Rasheed landing .. anywhere but the Celtics, because that would spell trouble for the Magic on the court.

We should sign Rasheed...
if not for that reason alone.
I question how well Bass and Anderson would fit together.
The ideal pickup is someone who gives us a different look than Anderson. Bass is a not an Anderson-style three-point shooter, but he’s not a brusier, either. Ideally, we would target a better rebounder and insider player than Bass.

Bass is a bruiser .. he doesn't mind getting down and dirty in the paint.
He can rebound and has a good inside game. Everything you want, that’s what Brandon is.

I hope you're right..
…Bass’s rebounding statistics strike me as good but not great.

They're good.
His per 36 minutes showed that he averages 8.0+ RPG. That’s solid.

I like this guy. A bunch of heart and hustle.
Can never have enough of those guys on your team. He is rebounding beast and a solid defender.

Brandon Bass ($826,269): After a pair of wasted seasons with the Hornets, the athletically-gifted power forward has put together two solid campaigns as Dirk Nowitzki’s backup in Dallas. He averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 boards last season and his production has gone up in the Playoffs. He’s only
Matt Barnes ($1.2 million): Averaged a career-high 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds last season — his sixth in the league (and his sixth different team, too). The glut of wings hurts Barnes’ earning potential, but that hasn’t stopped the defensive stopper with a smooth offensive game from producing. He’s comfortable coming off the bench or starting.
I think Dice could off-set Sheed if Boston gets him.
