The Magic have decided to hold out point guard Jameer Nelson for tonight's opening game of the NBA Finals against the Lakers, sources tell the Sentinel, and the chances of him playing at any point of the series is slim.

[....]

It looked like he had a chance to play but apparently the club deemed the risk too great for the all-star who hasn't played since injuring his right shoulder Feb. 3 in Orlando against the Dallas Mavericks.

Well I'll be...

I was convinced he’d play. I just hope this doesn’t feel like a downer for the team. They need to act like there was never a chance Jameer would play, and just go out and dominate.

Yeah hopefully.

And I hope it provides extra incentive that they saw how badly he wanted to go, but management won’t let him and use that motivation to bring this title home for him.

This is the correct move for the Orlando Magic.

.. sorry for deleting your post, DSK. Just wanted to avoid redundancy and hone in the discussion in one post.

painfully so..

Raf needs to limit himself to 3 shots if he starts cold. Drive and dish..

Eh, I'm a little more afraid of games where he starts hot

Don’t forget in game 5 he hit his first shot, a 3 pointer.

Then missed the next 9.

Lol? That's not hot..

Even I could probably make my first shot and then miss my next 9. I do think Alston can burn Fisher, though.

No, 1-1 is not hot

But I think it’s frequently the case that a player who makes his first shot tends to take more shots over the course of the game.

I'm not so sure why SVG would have said last night, "It looks like he's going to go"

This screams power struggle, Jameer/Otis/SVG all over it.

I don't think there's a power struggle, per se.

I think Otis Smith and Stan Van Gundy want to do what’s best for the team. Jameer just wants to play.

Him being active means nothing.

Yeah, that raised my eyebrow a bit.

I won’t lie. I don’t know at this point. The Lue part was the deal-breaker for me.
