Should we pursue Grant Hill?
So i was reading the sentinel of a piece by Brian Schmitz, where he is explaining for Magic to win a title now, they need to pursue Wallace... here's the link below
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2009/06/if-magic-want-to-win-a-title-they-should-sign-mr-t-rasheed-wallace.html
...he goes on by playfuling saying we should resign grant hill....although by his writing, it seems to me like he's joking, but why not pursue him...
i remember listening to an interview where hill said he would look into his options...he still lives in orlando and i think he would be a great push off the bench....i would imagine he would take a paycut similar to what it was with phoenix because he still owes it us...(92 million contract for 6-7 yrs)
i would love to have him on my team...more than likely it prob wont happen, but nice off season talk

Are the Magic pursuing a SF backup?
I’m sure they’ll sign a few Jeremy Richardson-types, but are they looking at anyone to backup Peaches and play some minutes? All the talk I’ve seen is focused on Sheed, Bass, Dice etc.

Not sure. When I was speaking with Otis, he said that he's looking for a point guard and a big man.
He might be playing another hand close to the vest (as he did with the Vince Carter trade), or he may not. Given what’s been reported, it’s clear that the Magic have other priorities heading into free agency.
As for Hill, I wouldn’t mind him coming to Orlando. Though I’d prefer Bass, Dice, Sheed, etc.

Yeah vet's min he'd be a solid backup.
And I agree I’d prefer Sheed or a 5 first, but I think I prefer Hill/Sheed to Sheed/Bass. I don’t think we’d get the most out of either Bass or Anderson in that scenarion.

I just like signing Bass because it gives the Magic a chip to play with for the future.

No….please no =[ did we not learn anything from the first time we got him? I personally have othing against Hill but we have bigger needs and he’s injury-prone and old. No thanks.
Played every game last season
And 70 the season before that.
I’d take him on the veterans mininum.

Definitely not injury-prone anymore.
Credit the Phoenix Suns training staff for that.

NO to a-hole HIll
He was oe of my favorite players and people in the NBA until the day he left Orlando. I was on his side through EVERY injury and EVERY missed game and lost season. Then instead of repaying his debt to this franchise by resigning here for cheap, after milking them for 15 mil every year on the bench, he goes and signs with the Suns on the cheap to ride Nash’s coattails to a NBA title. And I am extremely happy that little plan failed, and even more thrilled that he had to watch Orlando reach the Finals without him
Grant Hill is a disgrace and if I were Otis Smith I would LAUGH IN HIS FACE when he walked into my office asking to get back on board and ride Howard’s coattails to a title. Screw him, he had his chance and if he wanted to be here he WOULD be here. Let that loser try and cling onto Lebron or Kobes coattails
that being said
My personal issues with him aside, he would be a good fit into our depleted depth chart. We are sitting with Carter, Redick and Pietrus as our only options at SG/SF assuming Rashard’s role doesnt change (which it could ). Plus Hill showed last year (the last couple years?) that he can sextend his range to the 3 pt line with some success.
Yeah, Hill could fit in with the Magic's system.
A few questions would be .. what is his asking price, what role does he desire, etc.

I wouldnt have any questions
I would show him the door and remind him its the same one he walked through on his way to the Suns. Its one thing to throw away all your dignity as one of the great talents the league has ever seen to try and ride someone elses coattails at the end of your career (Malone, Payton, Shaq, etc). Its another thing to steal 90 mil from Orlando, leave the franchise in the mud for years, and then leave to chase a ring with the Suns when you become a FA. But to come back now?
Thats like your wife treating you like dirt for years, cheating on you, and walking out on you for the rich 20-something next door trading stocks. Then you make it big, I dont know you invent the post it note or something, and she comes pleading for you to take her back after her young BF loses everything in the economy. Are you seriously going to consider taking her back?
Grant Hill is scum, and I hate to say that about such a “great guy”
Hill didn't steal $90 million.
.. he tried like hell to come back multiple times. It was just a number of unfortunate circumstances that got compounded. Throughout the whole ordeal, Grant was a class act.
I sympathize with fans about being jilted with Grant Hill. Trust me, I know the feeling, but to call him scum and all that .. is a bit extreme, in my opinion. Just a string of bad luck for the guy.

Eh
We weren’t close to winning a title when he left. He tried his hardest for us, and yeah, his injuries were awful, but I don’t begrudge the guy chasing a title at this point in his career. You’ve only got so many years to achieve that.

My sentiments exactly.

I like how Zach of Orlando Magic Daily put it
Grant Hill: It sounds ridiculous, and it’s unknown how soured Hill’s relationship is with Magic management, but there’s no doubt Hill would be a fantastic option coming off the bench. He’ll likely sign for the veteran’s minimum, and talent-wise he’s about the best Orlando can hope for.
Link.
He’s been able to stay healthy in the last 2 years, he’s still a pretty good player. As a backup to MP—or even as a starter alongside Vince and Rashard—I think he’d thrive.
Similar to what I said about Rasheed.
If you can convince Grant to come off the bench, it’d maximize his production, and pace him along.

Good thing is, Grant wouldn't need much convincing, I don't think. He took that paycut 2 years ago to play for a contender.
My guess is he’s still prepared to play for (relative) peanuts if it means winning a championship. And he knows time is running out.
Rasheed might be less receptive to a bench role. Grant? I think he’d take it.
With a Sheed/ Bass or Bass/ Dice signing...
Backup SF is less of a priority. These two PFs could slide Shard to the SF leaving Peaches as the backup SFand SG. With Sheed signing Shard could move to the 3 and our 1-4 spacing wouldn’t be disturbed. Then we’d have thre great post-up players in the starting lineup (VC, Shard and Sheed). When shots aren’t fallen, we could just go inside and wreak havoc.
Life's too short. Be a fan. Magic, Cards and Rays! What a winning combo.
I say no for selfish reasons (he left when he could have resigned with us for the minimum considering what he put the franchise through)...
but if it does happen, he can’t be on the court at the same time as Dwight. We all witnessed what happens…Hill shrinks the floor because of his limited long range shooting and causes issues with spacing. With that said, if he signs for the veteran’s minimum and doesn’t hinder us signing a couple of other pieces to complete the puzzle, and is willing to take a back up role knowing he probably won’t be on the court in crunch time, then whatever…
Let's observe a moment of silence for CLee, Skip to my Lou, and Batman... *cry*

How far must you go to gain respect? Um...
Well, it's kind of simple, just remain your own
Or you'll be crazy, sad and alone
no thank you..
He already burned us once, why would you want him back.. DONT DO IT..
Give me Matt Barnes. Double hiscurrent salary, and sign him for 3 years. Much better option, he can shoot the 3 and defend..

grant hill
God no we should never go down that road again! We wasted good money on that man one time and got nothing for it! He is old and no longer what he was years ago!
Still a good player. Doesn't hurt to sign him to the veteran's minimum, if he's up for it.

I imagine it depends on the situation
As it always does with these things. Besides, he might find that there isn’t more than the vet’s min out there for him.
