What are the chances that we land Rasheed?

Personally, I pretty much like 'Sheed's total game. IMO, I think he would fit well with our system and possibly push us over the top into NBA history as champions just like many people believe. My question is: with our limited financial resources to sign such a player, will a player like Rasheed or McDyess really be willing to take a somewhat pay cut in order to help us next season? Or, do San Antonio and Boston have a better chance. I read somewhere, I believe it was E who said that 'Sheed's main choices were SA and ORL. Thoughts anyone?

Like Sheed and Dice both.

Sheed can still play defense and can bang . He has the ability to make the 3 as well. If he can control his emotions he may fit in.

Rasheed's main targets are Orlando and San Antonio.

.. that was reported by David Aldridge, who I trust with information. I’m certain Wallace would be willing to take a pay-cut. Question is, how much? Will he take the veteran’s minimum, part of the mid-level exception? Who knows. In any case, the odds that he signs with the Magic are 50/50, with the Spurs being the other half.

Dang it

Im not going to lie, as far as being unbias, if I were an NBA FA at Wallace’s age with his skill set and want to play with a true contender, SA would be more tempting since they have several rings already, versus the 2 ECF crowns that we have in Orlando. Let’s just hope for the best. Otis, get to work.

i think hes going to want to start if hes really 50-50 on which of the 2 teams too, but we dont know what SVG is thinking. Maybe he alrdy would assume Sheed starts, or wont, but gets 20-30mins backing up BOTH 4/5 spots. i like the “hybrid 4” lineup but sheed starting wouldnt infringe Dwights space either I think.

the thing is, i think Magic are going to get hung up on Sheed wanting the full MLE I bet. Id still do it, but thats alot of tax hurt. If the Magic tell him hey, take half and we’ll use the other half on your friend Dice!

by derekk on Jun 29, 2009 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, money may be an issue.

Thing is, Orlando and San Antonio are both going to be in the luxury tax. In the end, it may come down to which team offers more cash or it may come down to Rasheed Wallace’s personal preferences.

WAIT.....

so we’re in the FA hunt for TWO players? Wow, I hope we can combo any two of the three bigs we’re eyeing. I finally read that Bass thread and quickly caught on that we might possibly be landing 2 players, it’d be sweet…

Yeah, it's been reported that Otis will go after Bass and Wallace.

I’m sure if Smith is unable to land Rasheed, he’ll go after Antonio McDyess. Either way, there’s options.

I'd be so stoked to get Sheed.

Guy has frustrated me so much over the years playing dope defense on Dwight. Would love to see those powers used for good rather than evil.

Yah, the thing about Sheed

is that not only does he work offensively but he can cover both a 4 and a 5. So if we can sell him on the backup spot (if thats what SVG goes for) then he will get PLENTY of time still playing both positions when best suited matchup wise.

by fwedo on Jun 30, 2009 1:39 AM EDT reply actions

Excellent point.

If push comes to shove, I can live with a “conventional” lineup but I really would prefer to stay with Rashard Lewis at the 4 spot. It’s what makes the Orlando Magic an elite and special team. That being said ..

I think if Otis and/or Stan can convince Rasheed that, ’we’d like for you to come off the bench. You’ll still get plenty of playing time backing up Lewis and Howard, you’ll be able to pace yourself, etc.’ Given that Wallace will be 35 by the time the new season hits, it’d be best to conserve his energy as much as possible. If ’Sheed buys into that, then I think everything plays out perfectly for the team.

Sheed is so beyond done..

Its not even a motivation thing anymore, he’s just not got the legs anymore. Dude just sits out behind the perimeter and is slow up and down the court

You sure you want him?

yea, i think he has something to prove b/c alot of people say he’s inconsistent and enigmatic. He is better than most other options by far, and is a high IQ player, good for the lockerroom chemsitry and will help Dwight alot developing and being protected, not being the lone big man of the Magic. He can have fun shooting 3’s all day if he wants to, Magic love that lol.

I don't think Sheed is done ..

Detroit was a mess last year and that affected many of the players on the team.

Ric Bucher just reported (via Twitter) that Boston is now on Rasheed Wallace's list.

.. looks like Kevin Garnett finally convinced him to take a look at the Celtics.

Well here is thing Boston has a stock pile of Bigs KG, Perkins, Davis, Powe, and homeboy with the Dreads cant think of his name right now.

by Bigsherm on Jun 30, 2009 10:37 PM EDT reply actions

There's no guarantee Davis and Powe come back.

They both have qualifying offers Boston has to sort out .. and Mikki Moore is gone.

You can never have enough bigs.

I dont know about having too many bigs

Just ask the Clippers and their success this season, lol. Kaman, Randolph, Skinner, Jordan, Camby, Novak & Thornton.

Well .. that's the Clippers.

I can point to the Pistons as the counter-argument, with guys like Johnson, Maxiell, McDyess, Mohammed, Ratliff, and Wallace on their 2007-2008 team which went to the ECF’s.

Clips

The problem with the clippers bigs is the price tag. Those guys are making coin.. They need to spred that cash around to other positions.

But I’d much rather picture that than him playing for the C’s. lol
