[Otis] Smith didn't go into details, but said that Thursday's acquisition of [Vince] Carter — an eight-time all-star — will make re-signing [Hedo] Turkoglu something of a long-shot.
"It would be hard," Smith said.
[....]
Lon Babby, Turkoglu's agent, confirmed that the Magic made an initial proposal to Turkoglu, adding that Smith characterized it as a "jumping off point."
Babby said Turkoglu will evaluate the free-agent market and continue talking with the Magic.

C'mon Otis.
Go deep in that tax…

Devos is getting old and its about time he spends some of his fortune to see a championship before he dies.
Hopefully he will loosen the purse strings to bring a championship to the Magic.
.. he'll venture into the tax, but he's not going to get knee-deep in it.

Let's look at the numbers.
Before today we had 14 under contract.
We traded 3 (Alston, Lee and Battie) for 2(Carter and Anderson).
That left us with 13.
2 major players will be gone (1 opt out, Turk and 1 restricted, Gortat).
That leaves us with 11.
3 more minor players should be gone (1 restricted, Richardson, 2 unrestricted, Foyle and Lue).
That leaves us with 8.
We have no draft picks.
The minimum is 13.
Where do we go from here?
Even if we keep Turk or Gortat and Richardson, Foyle or Lue, that would only give us 10 under contract. I seriously hope we don’t keep all of the latter choices.
Life's too short. Be a fan. Magic, Cards and Rays! What a winning combo.
I'm sure Otis will make a move for McDyess, etc.

Even if we don't get Hedo, I still love this trade
Everyone talks about an “aging” Carter. The guy is only 2 years older than Hedo and we will have him for less time than we would have Turk if we re-sign him to a 4-5 year deal.
He’s off the books a couple years earlier so we’re not locked into the same team forever because none of the big deals expire for another 4 years or so.
Plus the biggest point of all. Carter is BETTER than Turk. We finally have that Pierce-Kobe-Lebron (I know he’s not in their league) type of player who can single handedly take over games and break down defenses.
Everyone else will pick up the slack elsewhere. Lewis and Nelson can fill that clutch shooting role. Pietrus is a better defender than Lee. And if Hedo does wind up walking we can bring back Gortat or get a suitable back-up wingman.
And if we do somehow dig in deep to bring back Turk, this is hands down the best team in the league next year. Period.
Should be interesting to see what Otis does.
.. unless something miraculous happens, Hedo is gone.

They are a good team
with or without Turk, but I mean, a championship is not just gonna come easy for that portland line-up.
not easily, but with alot of hard work.
We are set up nice. We can start legitemately competing next year.

We are a better team with Carter, but I'll miss Lee
Lee, you were great this year. You played your heart out every game and I only wish you the best. In three years the Nets backcourt will be sick.
One Freaken Second
I think they'll be sick in less than three years.
Harris is there already .. give Lee a year or two more.

Let's not forget about Ryan Anderson
He’s not chop liver, he’s got size and can do almost everything. He’s gonna be a solid role player next season.
One Freaken Second
Yeah, Otis said that was an important piece in the trade.
.. made giving up Courtney Lee a little bit easier, even though it was still tough to begin with.

Apparently, there's a real chance Rasheed could sign with the Magic
according to David Aldridge. He claims that he is down to the Magic and Spurs. If the Magic get Rasheed, they become immediate favorites in the East. Even if they don’t, and have to settle for a McDyess or Brandon Bass, those are both still two very solid player to take Turk’s spot if he doesn’t resign.
Just imagine a lineup of:
PG- Nelson
SG- Carter
SF- Lewis
PF- Wallace
C- Howard
Hello.

He talked about it earlier on NBA TV
Sorry, no link at the time. It’s all conjecture at this point, but Aldridge is one of the best in the business, and if he says that Rasheed is down to two teams, with one being the Magic, I believe him.
Hello.
I like Aldridge.
.. I believe him. It’s clear that the Magic will go after McDyess or Wallace.

Let's hope he signs them sooner rather than later
We need to get them at the Jameer Nelson annual summer mini-camp to get that chemistry going as soon as possible. Personally, I would love to get Wallace mainly to prevent another contender to sign him in order to guard Dwight.

I'm sure Otis will try to work something out as quickly as possible.
.. he understands there will be competition for McDyess, Wallace, etc.

Oh, but does he truly understand this?
It would be just be cruel to find out that Otis had simply stumbled into some of these fantastic moves instead of shrewdly executed them.

Otis is a smart guy.
.. he always seems to have a plan of attack.

Wallace WITH the Magic? How SWEET it is!
He has been one of the Magic tormentors; a player who KNOWS our weakness AND strengths, and CONSISTENTLY has exploited them, to our misfortune.
A front court of Lewis, Wallace and Dwight in the middle is INDEED formidable. It means NOBODY gets second shots on the Magic, specially the Lakers.
Plus, he’s Dwight’s pal too! I can sense a great chemistry developing here! Very promising…
Too soon to tell if this is going to go through, though. Let’s see where this leads to…
Soothes the bitterness of the Lee trade..
A deal like this, or with McDyess is EXACTLY what the Magic need, and it also helps to sweet the bad aftertaste left after that Lee give away.
Now; If only this Anderson would develop into a 15-point, 8-rebound SF, with Wallace, or McDyess backing either him or Lewis… the sky’s the limit! Magic have to LEARN to be pacient to allow for this to happen, though (which they were NOT in Lee’s case!).
Don’t want to get my hope’s up.
