Off-Day Open Thread: What's Your Favorite Orlando Magic Memory This Postseason?
If you remember a few months ago, I asked the Third Quarter Collapse community what their favorite regular season memory was. A number of people chimed in with a variety of memories that were, indeed, magical (pun intended) and memorable.
Well, since the season is over, I think it's appropriate to keep with the trend and ask everyone what their favorite postseason memory was? There's a doozy of candidates, given that the playoff run for the Orlando Magic was amazing (pun intended).
Here are a few of mine:
- Hedo Turkoglu's game-winning shot vs. Philadelphia 76ers
- Orlando Magic's Game 7 performance vs. Boston Celtics.
- Rashard Lewis' game-winning shot vs. Cleveland Cavaliers.
- Dwight Howard's 40 point, 14 rebound game vs. Cleveland Cavaliers.
Feel free to share your favorite memory (or memories). We, at 3QC, would love to hear 'em.

For me, it's easily Rashard's game winner in Game 1
That game was just ridiculous. Lebron was playing out of his mind and I didn’t think we’d be able to keep pace. But we matched them blow for blow with the Lewis shot being the highlight. Then add to that the fact that it was going to be tough to win at the Q, but we obviously needed a win there to be able to win the series…so beating Cleveland seemed possible after that game and after that shot.
Yeah, that game made me a believer that the Magic had a chance of beating the Cavaliers.
I know I picked Cleveland to win the series back at that time, but I made myself explicitly clear that I felt Orlando had a chance to win the series as long as it split the first two games. As we know ..
.. the rest is history.

beating Cleveland in 6
and winning the ECF :3 I couldn’t stop crying.
We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors.
Yeah, I wouldn't blame anyone for being emotional.
Took 14 years to get back to the ECF’s and took 15 years to win it.

A lot of good memories...
Two stand out for me though.
The first and most memorable is Orlando’s win in Game Six against Cleveland. I was at school in Evanston and I jokingly e-mailed my Mom telling her it was too expensive for me to fly home after Orlando lost Game Five. She then sent me back an e-mail asking if I seriously wanted to do it. I said why not (I did not have any classes Monday and a weekend home would be nice). So Saturday morning, I woke up at 5:15 and caught a cab to Midway to fly home for the game. I have never been happier with a spontaneous decision. It was such a great moment and I was sooooooo happy to be there.
The second was Turkoglu’s game-winner in Game Four. I was watching the game in the main room of my fraternity wearing my lucky combo of my blue pinstripe (throwback) Howard jersey and a Gator shirt I got prior to the 2006 National Championship game. Better yet, the school’s basketball team was over for a pizza party my fraternity had won. I covered them two years ago as a reporter, so it was a little odd for them to be seeing me in full fan mode.
By the end of the game there were maybe four of us sitting there watching it. As Turkoglu took the ball on the last possession, I was muttering to myself, “Don’t shoot it, Don’t shoot it, Don’t shoot it.” By the time he hit the wing, there was no doubt he was going to pull up for a 3. As he released it, I stood up and yelled, “Good,” in front of all my friends and began walking out of the room. It went in, to say the least.

game 6 against the cavs
Never will I ever utter "never" to myself

Same
When Dwight dropped 40 on them. If he can do that kind of dominance consistently next playoffs, Magic will be well on their way to the first title.
Definitely was a special game.
.. for a number of obvious reasons.
The key for Dwight is to match that type of performance against anyone in the future.

My favorite memory was game 6 against the Celtics
I hadn’t seen them show that type of mental toughness up until that point, and that’s when it convinced me they were the type of team that most have characterized them since.
But, it was convincing watching it in action. After all, it’s not like the Celtics flat out fell off the wagon until game 7.

Yeah, Game 6 was a turning point for the team.
.. Dwight Howard led the way, which was nice.

Yeah but it wasn't a flashy dominant performance like Game 6 vs Cleveland
It was a persistent head down let’s keep going at it guys type of thing. I can rarely remember 6 points being more important than C-Lee’s 6 points at the end of the 3rd/4th qtr there. If he doesn’t score those points, I don’t know Orlando wins that game.

I split the award between game 7 (bos) & game 6 (cle)
But for the 2nd place,there is no doubt-game 6 vs philly. Blowout,no Dwight…
Man,that felt good.
Individual play? I go with 2 ‘shards clutch treys, especially that from the Dwight’s block-
beautiful play, right out of the books.
Yeah, there's a number of candidates to choose from.
No right or wrong answer here. Not at all.

Helloooooooooo! Dad-dunks, anyone?
Ha, partially kidding. But my faves (that haven’t already been mentioned here) break down like this:
- The Hedo game winner/jersey pop. I’m not usually a fan of the jersey-pop but in this case I was like “He’s baaaack”
-Game 6 in Philly. I remember going into that game just DREADING it and was just amazed and so proud of my team. My sister walked by the TV, stopped, did a double take and was like, “Wait, WHAT is the score?”
- C-Lee vs. LeBron Dunks of Awesomeness
and, not gonna lie
- Anthony Johnson’s dunk at the end of the quarter that had Marcin almost rushing the court. I remember pre-chat on here before the game joking that if AJ dunked we would win and I jumped out my chair cheering when he did in the very first game.
Of course the series winning games in Boston and Cleveland as well, but I wanted to pick some less obvious moments that stuck out to me. Good times, for sure.
