Highly speculative Suns trade idea
I'll be honest - I don't even know if Phoenix is thinking the way I think they're thinking. However, they have a lot of value in contracts expiring after next year (Steve Nash's $12M, Shaq's $22M, along with Lopez and Tucker). In fact, the only players they have signed past next year are Leandro Barbosa, Goran Dragic, Jason Richardson, and Amare' Stoudemire. Since they're going to be in full "blow it up and rebuild" mode, they might be a customer for Tony Battie's contract, which will expire at the same time.
Phoenix gets:
Tony Battie
JJ Redick
Future draft pick from Orlando
Orland gets:
Leandro Barbosa
The trade would also work without JJ and Robin, which might be more palatable to Phoenix, but I was thinking to keep the positions balanced - an SG and a C for an SG and a C. I don't think Phoenix would pull the trigger, but I was intrigued when I saw the salaries would work out.

Very expensive SG tho.
Who doesnt defend as well as C.Lee either. However, he’s a 3 point sharpshooter, and can play some PG I think. I dont see it happening because Magic are hard-pressed enough to sign Turkoglu as it is, much less take 2 extra years at his contract rates. If they somehow lost Turk, this trade becomes slightly more realistic.

I don't see the trade ever happening on Phoenix's part.
Make’s no sense for the Suns to trade off parts of their younger core.

heartbeat
I would do that in heartbeat. Just not sure why Phx would do it.

Battie gives 6.3mil cap salary back after just 1 yr. Pheonix is in deep Lux right now so that helps, and Battie is still a quality big. The pick and Redick are new young pieces, plus I think Redick would KILL it over in Pheonix’s style of play.
Lopez is not like the NJ Nets Lopez but still a quality young big, Barbosa is still too expensive imo, and if he isnt playing backup PG, I dont want him b/c I want to play and develop CLee along. C.Lee or Barbosa could move up to SF tho at times I bet.

man
If he was our back-up PG we would be in the ball game. Robin is a good defender and long, but very limited on O, but he would fit in perfect here. Give P Ewing another project.

I thought of this originally because of the "re-sign Turk and lose Gortat" scenario that's being projected
We’d still be short a PF, but I think we could live with Robin Lopez backing up D12, and we could play CLee at SG and Turk at SF. Barbosa could play at PG or SG (or possibly against undersized SFs – he’s 6’3" but has a much bigger wingspan), and Peaches mostly at SF.

Phoenix would never do that trade.
.. of course, Orlando would do it.

Hedo Re-signing
A vet coming to us late in the season who gets released from there deal like Micheal Moore or Stephon Marbury did last year.

It's the money
If Orlando offers up the MLE, than I think they will get him. If not, it’s very tricky.

Not to be negative, but I don't want to see either Mikki Moore or Starbury anywhere near a team I care about

not what I was saying
I am saying that Orlando will not sign anyone, if they do it will come late in the season when players are cut.

No way Phoenix does this.
You don’t get out of the luxury tax by trading off your best, youngest players. That kind of defeats the point.

You get out of the tax by dealing your old, highly paid players.
Such as Shaq.

Not sure what Barbosa brings to Orlando, other than another flippin' two guard.
Lopez is useless, too. An 11.9 rebound rate from a 7-footer? Mike Miller has a better rebound rate…
by Ben Q Rock on Jun 18, 2009 4:15 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
he brings speed, penetration, and shooting..
much better player then AJ and Raf. Upgrades the back-up PG spot.
I think Lopez is really raw, but has size, he would only be for depth.

Still, his price tag is too much to be a back-up PG.
The Magic have to be efficient with its funds.

I've never thought of him as a PG. He's a small SG.
by Ben Q Rock on Jun 19, 2009 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes he is, but as back-up PG that is good enough.
He has the ability to create his own shot, so for me that is good enough. Raf and AJ can’t, what does either do better?

Barbosa's actually gotten alot better at both this year.
That’s one of the few bright spots that the guys over at the Bright Side of the Sun agree on anyway. Anyway, it’s a moot point. There’s no way Phoenix trades him for a couple of role players.
by Worthy J. on Jun 20, 2009 6:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
.. he may have improved, but Barbosa is still a scorer, first and foremost.

mute point
like u said trade would never happen.
Can we get a Laker trade? JJ and Battie a 1st for Carmelo Anthony.. can some explain to me how a top 5 big man gets traded for pennies, that Pao Gasol trade still pisses me off.

Which trade was the most lopsided?
1) The Pau trade
or
2) The Garnet trade?
Personally, I’m looking for a Battie, Lue, Johnson, future 1st rounder (conditional) and rights to Vasquez for Kobe type deal.
It could happen right?
Life's too short. Be a fan. Magic, Cards and Rays! What a winning combo.

Definitely the Pau trade.
.. at least the Wolves got Al Jefferson in the KG deal.

I actually kinda like what the Wolves have done after booting Garnett
They’ve got a good young roster, they’ve drafted well. As we saw when trading T-Mac, you’re never going to get “fair” value so you have to get a rebuilding project started – and Minnesota did that far better than anyone else who’s traded away a superstar.

Yeah, the trade could have been worse.
At least the Wolves have some pieces here and there.

Including 2 lottery picks, which they may flip to move up even further.
by Ben Q Rock on Jun 24, 2009 3:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yup.
Personally, I think they should stand pat and hope that Evans falls to #5. If not, draft Curry and Harden with the picks.
Just me, though.

The only reason I wouldn't stand pat...
would be to trade one of their picks for future pick(s) (and hopefully cash). This isn’t a great draft class, and I’m not sure I’d want four 1st round picks this year.
