BSPN Lakers v. Magic predictions
The predictions from the BSPN analysts are in!
The predictions from the BSPN analysts are in! To nobody's surprise, the analysts (9 out of 10) to be exact have picked the Lakers to win in 6 or 7 games. The sole Orlando supporter, True Hoop's Henry Abbott, picks the Magic in six. Hey, we can't exactly be mad about it, they've all been counting us out since game 7 in Boston (actually since game 5 in Boston) and this team's back up against the wall brings out the best in them. Four more game are all that remain, four more games of doubt, four more games of disbelief and four more games of shocking the world. This Magic team is a team of destiny, c'mon baby!

good for the magic
all season long this team performed its worst when it got comfortable or complacent. They thrive on the “us against the world mentality”. Keep the doubters coming and there just might be a parade down Orange Ave. Go Magic.
once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right
tough series to Predict
Mis-matches all over the floor.
I envision Gortat seeing more minutes. The Lakers are long and we can’t afford to get killed on the boards. D12 will hold his own, but they have the better rebounder at SG, SF, and PF.

Agreed, Shard and Turk must really go hard on the glass in this series.

on which end for Rashard?
Because I’m actually worried about what Lewis is going to do to the Laker’s defensive rebounding when he’s drawing Pau, the Lakers best rebounder, out to the perimeter. Without Gasol down there, Bynum and Odom cannot stop Howard from playing volleyball on the boards.
However, on the flip side, Gasol is going to have a good advantage over Lewis on the offensive board. Bynum and Odom must be ready to go up and clean up put-back misses by Gasol after Howard gambles and goes for the block against Pau.
I was speaking in general, on both ends, despite being 6'10...
Turk & Shard both have a tendency to play a lot smaller than they are. Sure, it’s beneficial as they’re better ball handlers than most their size, but I’d still like to see both attack the glass on a more consistent basis. I’ll give it to them though, in the post-season (for the most part) they’ve been doing a pretty nice job at exactly that.

yes
Shard is 6’10" and will do a reverse lay-up when going to the hole. I find my self screaming Shard you gotta bang that. I love Shard’s and Turk’s ability to shoot and both have been clutch as of late, but they aren’t going to grab 10 boards. Lakers have 3 players who can easily do it on any night.

Thing is, that "advantage" of having 3 players who can rebound double-digit boards is ..
.. nullified, for the most part, by Howard’s excellent rebounding rate (25.1%). Combining the rebounding rates of Howard/Lewis/Turkoglu with Bynum/Gasol/Odom doesn’t net a distinct advantage for either team (though the numbers favor the Lakers ever so slightly). Plus, you’ll never see that L.A. trio on the court together. It’ll be any combination of the two.

Oh I am sure..
Great matchups. Dwight brings his hard hat and we can win this thing..

A prediction from me
- Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum will not be able to contain Dwight.
- LA will struggle to cope with Orlando’s offensive arsenal.
- Kobe will average 35, 6 and 5. And not get a ring.

magic picks
that’s alright we have sir Charles, and he’s been on the money every time with the Magic he also picked Magic in seven.
Winning in 7 will be extremely difficult.
Not trying to be negative, but no team in the 2/3/2 Finals format has won a Game 7 on the road. Likewise, Orlando has more history against them. No playoff squad has won two Game 7’s on the road in the same year. I know, I know .. there’s always a first for everything, but that’s what the Magic are dealing with ..
.. from a historical perspective. In my opinion, the team has to win in 6 (at the most).

It can be done.
I’m sorry, but I’ve been believing in the Magic all year long, and I’m not going to stop now. We knew that if we were to go to the Finals it would be against the Lakers. I think the team is prepared for it, and they had to defeat the defending champs and the team with the best regular season record (along with this year’s MVP) to get there.

Hey .. if there's a team that can do the near impossible, the Magic can.
At this point, there’s nothing I don’t think Orlando can’t do. I’m just laying out the parameters.

32-0.
As I’ve stated many times, stats do not matter in the playoffs. Statistical history is just that, history, this is the present, all they have to do is win basketball games.

There's always precedence, sure.
.. can’t dismiss all stats, though.

yeah
he also thought the Nuggets would win the championship
and his buddy Kenny picked the Rockets in 6 over the Lakers
They're like politicians .. they flip-flop.

In all fairness
Kenny picked the Rockets in 6 BEFORE Yao got hurt

When the Magic win this will be why
Dwight is better than Kobe. It is close, but Dwight does more to help his team win.
Defense wins championships unless you are the show time Lakers. These are not your showtime Lakers.
Kobe can’t win as the #1 guy. He is no Jordon and so he can’t get it done without a dominant post presence. Gasol does not qualify.
Relying on getting offense from your center when you are playing the Magic is a sure fire way to find yourself disappointed.
On a similar note, Dwight will be considered widely as the 2cd greatest player on the planet after the Show he will put on this series.
Stan will no longer be considered the Master of Panic.

Gasol isn't a dominant post presence?

I have trouble with this one. But I don't really think so. More of a skilled player.
Euro soft. I don’t think that gets er done. Of course, this is all premised on the Magic winning. If the Lakers win, well then I guess he’d qualify, lol.

Hmm.
Well, he’s been having an excellent postseason, that’s for sure. I will say this, though. The Magic do have the personnel (Howard, Lewis, etc.) to contain Gasol, as great of a player he is. Pau didn’t really have sterling games against Orlando during the regular season matchup.
Apparently the perception still reigns that Rashard isn’t a good defender. Well, that’s not true.

I would consider Gasol a skilled post presence, but not a dominant post presence
He knows what to do most of the time, but sometimes doesn’t have the ability against stronger or quicker post defenders.

To be fair
Picking the team with the best away record in the NBA, arguably the second best player in the NBA, one of the best coaches in the NBA, and who won seven more games this season than we did, isn’t exactly a shock.
If the Magic need anti-ESPN motivation in this series, we’re in trouble. Playing for a title is all the motivation you should ever need.
