Magic point guard Rafer Alston, subbing for injured starter Jameer Nelson since a February trade, would like nothing more than to sign an extension with the Magic.

Alston told the Sentinel on Thursday that he wants to remain with the organization after his contract expires next season.

I think he has done a good job getting us to this point.

But he has certain tendencies that need to be managed.

If he'd be happy with a bench role...

Seriously, if we had a bench of Alston, Gortat, Pietrus, Redick, and Battie… that lineup could hold their own against half the teams in the league even if they were all on the court at the same time and all the starters were out. Of course, with the Turkoglu and Gortat free agencies, thats not a likely scenario.

.. all indications, and the people I've spoken to, cite that Alston would be happy with a bench role.

signing turkoglu

should take precedence over keeping rafer. though our depth at the point would be disgusting

Depends on what money he wants, really

Half his current salary and he might get it.

Rafer

You gotta do better than 1-7 from 3 if you want that extension. Okay?

sounds like he'll be willing to sacrifice a little to stay with us.

i wonder what other clubs will offer him? no doubt he’d be fantastic backing up jameer if he was content to do so. he would provide such energy off the bench.

Given that he'll be 33-34 when his contract is up, that's the figure I was thinking too.
