AJ's flagrant-1 rescinded

Today, the NBA ruled on the "elbow" applied to Mo Williams by Anthony Johnson. In the game, it was originally ruled a flagrant-2, but was reduced to a flagrant-1.

Mo argued that it was definitely a cheap shot, and should be raised to a 2.

The NBA disagreed. This just came in from Fox Sports Radio. They ruled it wasn't even a foul, and rescinded the flagrant altogether.

That's one less thing to worry about.

No surprise. It was an inadvertent elbow .. nothing else needs to be said.

Maybe they can take the flagrant from AJ’s unintentional elbow that did hit and give it to DH’s intentional elbow that did not hit.

Good luck tonight fellas.

It's in the past, just drop it.

Thanks, GL tonight.

What about Varejaeo's three intentional shoves at Howard? Why isn't he suspended?

Rescinding the AJ flagrant is literally shocking to me, especially after LBJ was lobbying to Stern.

Shocking, given what's been occurring in the playoffs, but the right call.

I'm shocked too

I’m shocked that the NBA stepped in here. They’ve been hush on a lot of stuff so far. Did they ever give Mo Williams a technical? They should have.

"They ruled it wasn't even a foul, and rescinded the flagrant altogether"

Can you IMAGINE if we had lost by 1 or 2 points?!?! What would the NBA say then? I’m so sure Mo is complaining about a “definite cheap shot” in which he was awarded two free throws, when in reality, he got away with a “definite cheap shot” by throwing the ball at Dwight without receiving any penalty.

Stern said he was in favor of implementing a replay rule a few weeks ago however said

every owner would vote against it. After these NBA playoffs, I’m not so sure. Plus reviews are fun, especially in the NFL, anticipation builds for 90 seconds and then the crowd goes nuts one way or the other, I don’t see it being so bad in the NBA.

AND most importantly. They get it right.

Even baseball implemented it, hockey? I don’t know, don’t watch since Hartford left, I went on a life-long boycott. Basketball needs to be next to implement.

Wouldn't it be hard in hockey (aside from reviewing goals)? It's such a fast-paced game.

It would just be goals crossing the line, I imagine, like baseball only has home runs.

They probably already have this, but again, I have no idea.

Well, I know that hockey already reviews goals.

.. I was talking about reviewing penalties. I would think that’d be difficult.

Right and just like NFL you can't review penalties so I doubt they'd allow reviews of fouls in the NBA

However situations where the shooters foot is clearly on the perimeter and they give him a three, or shot clock violations, traveling, questionable out of bounds plays should all be reviewable.

As a hockey freak, only goals are reviewed. Reviewable calls are:

“(i) Puck crossing the goal line.
(ii) Puck in the net prior to the goal frame being dislodged.
(iii) Puck in the net prior to, or after expiration of time at the end of the period.
(iv) Puck directed or batted into the net by a hand or foot. With the use of a foot/skate, was a distinct kicking motion evident? If so, the apparent goal must be disallowed. A DISTINCT KICKING MOTION is one which, with a pendulum motion, the player propels the puck with his skate into the net. If the Video Goal Judge determines that it was put into the net by an attacking player using a distinct kicking motion, it must be ruled NO GOAL. This would also be true even if the puck, after being kicked, deflects off any other player of either team and then into the net. This is still NO GOAL.
(v) Puck deflected directly into the net off an Official.
(vi) Puck struck with a high-stick, above the height of the crossbar, by an attacking player prior to entering the goal. The determining factor is where the puck makes contact with the stick. If the puck makes contact with the stick below the level of the crossbar and enters the goal, this goal shall be allowed.
(vii) To establish the correct time on the official game clock, provided the game time is visible on the Video Goal Judge’s monitors.
(viii) The video review process shall be permitted to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g. to ensure they are "good hockey goals").”

Plays are reviewed for suspension worthiness, similar to how technicals and flagrants are reviewed

They are looking at replays anway for 3's and so-on why not correct a bad call.

The whole world sees it on T.V.and they replay it over and over especially if it’s bad. Looks bad for the refs and the league.

They have the feed already. They could have a guy from the team notify the coach by headset

just like the N.F.L. and then the coach throws the towel. A time out is called and the review is made.If it goes the other way the team loses one of there time outs. It would have to flat out bad, no team would want to lose a time out.

The NBA

They just do that to cover up the terrible officiating, and it’s not working.
